1. Some lovely basses in there. The prices are a little high but I'm sure there are people who will pay asking price.
2. I've looked into refins too just recently (just plain block colours) and the standard cost seems to be around £300 which means you really have to want a different colour if you get a professional job done. The results I've seen are excellent though
3. Great story and mine is similar(ish). Who'd have thought somebody came to Basschat and wound up buying more gear?
4. Pick whatever feels right for you... I'm surprised you weren't happy with the Fenders as they do some great basses within that price range but if you can't find the right one (or there are basses that are better suited) go for whatever feels good.
5. I've played a couple and think they are good for the money. The Stingray copy stood out for me.
6. Welcome to the site and welcome back to bass.
7. My theory is enough to get by but certainly has gaps. I wouldn't know how to play over a jazz progression either to be fair. I'd like to improve on my theory but each teacher I've been to has thought my knowledge was fine - it isn't!
8. I was in Dublin back in April - excellent city but I wasn't blown away by the music shops. Back then the exchange rate was at it's worst so any purchase would have been a bit silly on my part. We stumbled across a couple of guitar shops that were ok
9. Welcome & echoing what Telebass said that is a great looking bass. Very unique!
10. The action is easily fixed. I own one and have played three. All played well. Like a turbo Jazz! You also know (I assume) that the top switch switches from passive to active?
11. I own a 51RI p-bass & the weight is no issue. It's one of the best basses I've ever owned. Having been used to standard shaped P-basses I didn't find too much of an adjustment. My only thoughts on a Rickenbacker are they are a lot of money to spend if like me you decide you a Fender player through & through. Seeing as you are based in Wilts, last time I went to Swindon they had some great looking Rickenfakkers in a couple of guitar shops that were just under £500. So you could get a nice Fender and try one of these? Just a thought. I'd imagine the resale value would hold too.
12. I think they are brilliant and have played one for 20yrs. The new ones from the Classic Series are excellent and it's as big a jump in quality from the standard Squiers compared to the VM Squiers. The vintage stylings may not be to everyones tastes but they are certainly to mine. For a first bass it is excellent. They are used by pro musicians too
13. Looks great - I've just spent 10 minutes searching around EBay & Google but these seem to be rare. No idea what they sound like but I do like the look
14. Depending on the finish I have actually scratched one off with a fingernail.
15. He makes mention of it in the current BGM but I think it's a while off & he was a bit vague about it. The idea has been worked on though.
16. I'm offering my Ampeg BA115 100w combo for sale. Specs are here http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/...s-Combo-Amp/9H5 It's less than a year old and only left the house once for a gig in a medium sized venue where it more than held it's own. I'm selling as I've found a smaller head to go with my cab and this was being used for gigs where I didn't wish to lug my full main rig. As a result it's only been played through on a small handful of occasions. I also had a custom cover made for it to protect it so it should last somebody a long time - the cover was about £40 and worth the investment. I've seen a couple of online stores have now dipped below the £250 mark so for that reason I'm going to offer mine at £190. The second hand ones I've seen on EBay are still going at £200+ and that's without the cover. Not much in the way of pics right now but the one attached shows the cover in the background too (although you have to ignore my double bass which isn't included in case anyone wonders!). I think it sounds great for a 100w combo. Solid state but they have done well getting that Ampeg tone on a budget. Light and fairly portable with a tone that cuts through in rehearsals and small to medium sized gigs (any bigger and face it you'd put the amp through the PA anyway!) I am reluctant to post stuff as I have always favoured dealing face to face with people & I've also had a bad experience with a courier. I'm in West Berkshire but would be willing to drive within an hour for the right offer or you can check it out here. I'm not looking for trades as I have all the gear I need and this is going to part fund a trip abroad after a fairly vile 2009. Thanks for looking. Any questions relating to a sale please PM me.
17. I have a Line 6 Bass Floor Pod which is highly compact and has some great settings as well as a bunch I don't use. I've used individual pedals in the past which is certainly a sure fire way to target the tones you are aiming for. However I found the Multi FX unit much more portable which is a strong factor for why I choose them. I tend to find I try and get by with getting just the best tone I can from the bass to the amp & not using effects. It changes all the time.
18. This is fascinating stuff. I've over 800+ Positive Feedback on EBay but mainly as a buyer. I reckon I have only sold about 50 items (all music related) and never had any spam. I've sold stuff on forums and with the exception of Basschat always had spam. It's worth knowing this as I plan to have a gear clearout to fund a holiday in a few months. Scary stuff!
19. I'm there too at the moment but something always comes along. I'd rather it was later rather than sooner to be honest so I can properly enjoy what I have
20. Not as such but I'd be happy to drive closer to you if this is any help. I can drive up the A34 past Oxford taking me up towards the midlands. PM me if it is.
21. I assume mrcrow is still enjoying it!?!

23. I hate people mucking about with classic P-basses but it's your bass and for me your saving grace is that you intend to keep it. If this is genuinely the case then you should do whatever you want to maximise your enjoyment of it.
