    I blew a slowblow fuse on my bass head. It was a 4a one which was rare but luckily I picked up a 10 pack on EBay. I'm very much plug in & play too

    I had an Epi Les Paul which was great but I sold it to tarcher as I'm more of a Fender player. Floyd Pepper has just bought a Gibson & I know he was very pleased with it.

Gibson had 2 EB basses by the end of the fifties and a lot of choices come the early 60s, as with several other makers too. So bearing in mind most of those bassists classic recordings were done in the 1960s I don't think it's quite so straight forward. I think there is more choice and better quality across the boards these days if that is what you mean but to say that Fender Precision was the only choice doesn't quite seem right.

    A few questions (not wanting to get your hopes up) as I am in the market for a Rickenbacker Bass and can realistically could pay cash this week if the right deal is there. I'm looking at a couple already but like the age of this and you are only a couple of hours from me. 1) In the initial post you state you have more pics to follow? The one attached is ok but if the back is suffering buckle rash and the tuner has been replaced I'd need to see what this looks like. Also close up shots of the bass. 2) What's the weight of this one? 3) Any history? How long have you owned it etc. Why are you selling? 4) Original case? Thanks in advance, Tim

I still think the MIM Classics are good quality and a lot of the standards I've seen look ok although admittedly I haven't tried one lately

    I assume you have no backing tapes... or do you? It depends on how good the players are. I remember doing Town Called Malice by the Jam in that format and it sounding good. You can presumably play anything you want and just get in a groove. A good song always sounds great when things are stripped back a little. Maybe popular songs stripped back from that era.

    I know a few left handed people who play right handed. The singer in my current band is a lefty and I'm amazed how many people have said it looks odd. It just looks left handed to me.

    A second hand deal would be my thoughts too & I'd avoid any cheap net deals at this price. Like Obbm my wife bought a cheap pink one. I'd lie it on the floor & the cats would run under the gap between the strings & fretboard!

I also saw one in Dawsons in Reading on Monday so trying Dawsons could be a good bet

    I was only ever aware of the E series 32" Squier Japan P-bass. There was one on here back in the summer that I nearly bought but didn't in the end.

    I spent half of yesterday evening googling Gretsch basses and they seem rarer than hens teeth! I'm genuinely surprised so many of you have played one as I've never got to try one and it's not for lack of trying.

    I started out in a Glam / punk band playing a Fender Precision. I played the exactly the same bass at a gig with my alt.country band back in November. The majority of my bands have been in the alt.country vein but I also played in a punk band and a mod band in my younger days where the Fender P fitted just fine. I did briefly switch to a jazz during the Mod band but that's hardly a great change. I suppose the alt.country did finally inspire me to get a double bass but I was dreaming of one back in my Glam rock youth. Awesome thread by the way

    When famous people die I don't like the sometimes uncontrollable public grief that goes with it these days but individuals who have influenced me or who I admire obviously make me feel a little sad. I remember Johnny Thunders going who was my hero as a kid but he was a walking time bomb anyhow. I was saddened at the end of the last century when Rick Danko & Curtis Mayfield went. Equally though even when the likes of Stephen Gately die (of whom I don't like his music) I do feel sad for his friends & family. It's sad when anyone dies but I do find it strange when you see masses of people sobbing uncontrollably for someone they've never met.
