1. Double bass initially but with regular practice I'm better. However faster busier basslines will do it. Also the slimmer neck on my old 75ri Jazz used to make my forearm ache. I got rid of it
2. Well at least we don't have the snow or strikes holding up the post.
3. Stevie bought an Olp bass off me. Great comms, easy to deal with, decent guy. I hope you enjoy & I wouldn't hesitate to buy or sell with Stevie again
4. It just looks to me like the white one I had with a few bits of black tape put across it. Not that I find that wrong, just that's how it looks to me
5. I have 3 Hercules A frame stands & they more than suit me
6. Great effort, thanks for this. I found it really useful. A lot of tone from a little box! I think your style works well & fair play for using the same riffs rather than trying to show off. I found it very watchable
Apologies for not trying it with a passive bass too...Perhaps sometime I'll do a second video!
Yes please!
7. I go between finger style and plectrums but I always keep at the same length. I used to play down by my knees back when I was cool but these days it sits slightly lower than if I were sitting down. I'd have no issues changing mid set, you do what you have to do. Whatever works.
I'm 6 ft 3 so I can't really get my strap much lower than waist height. Anyway, sitting down and playing I actually find uncomfortable sometimes, but I always practise standing anyway.
You can. I'm 6'3" & you can buy extra long straps. However if you develop back problems in later life I've never heard of you!
8. You don't see many under £600 & it's usually £500 for a quick sale if you do. Assuming it's all in order you'd be crazy not to
9. Good to hear, pleased it went well
10. Welcome to Basschat. I quite like Talk Bass but it's a much better community here in my opinion
11.
Also ask your band to play more quietly unless you were in final rehearsals for a gig.
Plus one. Hearing is no laughing matter. My Dad played in the 60s & his hearing went at the age of 47. He now has 2 hearing aids. It scares me
12. I emailed them yesterday & was impressed they replied today. I like the look of the Memphis one although that headstock is a bit too rock for my tastes. Never seen one in real life though
13.
is this any good
Word on the street here is "no". Also the same for the German guy on EBay.
14.
I really miss the Fender Bassman head and 2x15 cab that i had. What make is the resonator ? i could do with something like that.
Nobody has ever owned up to making that Resonator! It has a blank headstock. It was shipped from Houston, TX but I don't suppose it is USA made. Could be I suppose but I've always assumed it's from the Bluegrass Republic of China. They do pop up on EBay but not as common as they should be. It's a great bass and for the money it was an absolute steal
15. Vintage & Rare Guitars in Bath blew it for me a few years ago when I was asking about 51 P-basses and the guy was really snooty saying they didn't exist. I've seen some good stock since but that left a bad taste in my mouth. They are not the cheapest but they do have a good reputation. Equally not cheap but prone to 100% genuine stuff is http://www.classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/basses.htm - but not a "shop" as such. You can go and try stuff if you are serious though. All by appointment. I've bought from him a couple of times
16. I think most musicians go through similar. I had a phase in my late teens where there were a couple of dry spells. At the time it felt like it went on forever but actually the longest break was about 9 months. Stay positive and something will come along.
17. Yep, that was his name!
18. Those Eastwood basses do look good. This months Guitarist has a GAK ad with a Gretsch bass in stock although it's not online
19. I don't listen to a lot of music with bass as a lead instrument but I do like to hear it occasionally. The one that stands out for me is the warts and all production job on The Byrds Live at the Royal Albert Hall 1971 CD that came out a year or two ago with SKip Battin soloing on Eight Miles High
20. I knew they were all great players but the moment for me is when they interview the tambourine player and he shows us what he can do.
21. As a personal view I think there is more choice now then ever & you can't go too far wrong with many of the practice amps out there these days. This certainly wasn't the case when I started
22. I remember seeing these about at the time. I think the MIMs initially tried to up their game by offering funky colours. More recently the modifications have been to improve playability but I remember these being good fun
23. I can almost hear it! I love those Rotosound strings too - have them on my USA 60th Anniversary P-bass. My wife and I did briefly discuss me buying this but, and I quote her, "no, no, no, no, no!" which was more a comment on me then your bass!
24. That is lovely! I can't see it hanging around long. I'm half tempted myself but must resist! Is that strung with black nylons or are they just the original strings?
