http://www.dv247.com/guitars/stagg-edb-3-4...ent-blue--49966 have any of these type of electrics been used in orchestral settings?
These sound great and I've seen / played Floyd Pepper's one (better colour). However my current singer is a real traditionalist and such a snob that if I dared show up with one of these I'd be fired! My response at the time was "Calm down Pete, they do them in different colours!". They sound the biz but I too prefer the traditional look - an opinion I usually challenge around 2am as I struggle up the stairs with my upright!
2. Opinions are like a***holes, everyone's got one. Actually joking aside I agree with the general sentiment of what people have posted so far. My 1978 Precision is the mutts nuts. Whilst I would be quick to acknowledge it is regarded as a fact that there are a few turkeys from the 70s, there are also some absolute stunners too. A few things to watch for like weight, 3 bolt necks etc but I wouldn't be put off by the era. I am sure there are more people spouting the 70s were rubbish theory then there are people who have played 70s Fenders. I still remember when Japanese stuff was regarded as rubbish and having played a ton of the older instruments I can only agree with what everyone else is now saying.
3.
The price of this bass with hard case is $3599 plus shipping.
Cheers, mine will be resting over the handbrake for some time yet then!
4. We drove 285 miles to play York last weekend with mine. This Saturday is Bedford. Right now that looks like Heaven! Are they expensive?
5. I hope to keep mine all original for as long as possible but if I had to change it I'd go for the Fender vintage bridge http://shop.absolute-guitars.co.uk/fender-...rome-1032-p.asp
6. Good man! Looking cool
7. Welcome to Basschat Duke
8. Welcome to Basschat Lady Karyi
9. Welcome to Basschat Matt, got to love those Jag basses
10. I played through one & was really impressed. I have the SVT 150h which was what they did in the 90s. A great back up head for sets where I don't want to cart around a great big valve head
11.
I have a Fender bassman 135, circa 1978. People normally say they are too clean for lead guitar but too quiet for Bass. I have used this head at rehearsals and some quite large pub gigs and it stands up well in a 5 piece, with two guitars and a full drum kit, no problem at all.
My head is 1978 too & I have to agree it's plenty loud enough. These really vary in price depending on condition. I use mine through an Ampeg SVT 115E
12. Welcome to Basschat
13. I'll have a P please Bob
14. Welcome to Basschat
15. I've done about 3 decent supports in the last few months & we have always had a good deal out of the venues / promoters. However I've found lower down the scale at pub gigs we've dealt with promoters who really should just call themselves "bookers" as they haven't done much in the way of promoting, passing this on to the bands to do.
16. Welcome to Basschat
17. I've bought a fair bit over the last few years but I've played them all a fair bit more. I've also noticed the threads tend to be more on gear than on playing. I had two basses for 15yrs before I started going on Bass sites. My argument is I play a lot though. My gear gets used.
18. Am I really the only bassist to gig this week? Wow! We drove 280 miles to York last night to gig at the art centre in Pocklington. Excellent fun & we went down well.
19. He's just down the road from me. I've met him and spoken with him. He is genuine and a nice guy. From what I saw of his gear it is all good stuff which is sadly reflected in the price. He has a stall in the indoor market in Hungerford but most of the guitars are kept elsewhere.
20. Nerves are normal in the early days. Do the show - you sound remarkably more rehearsed then I've been at points in the past. I suspect this is fear of the unknown & once you start you'll be fine. Best of luck
21. I love the look of Jazzes but don't get on with the narrow neck. If they did one with a fatter neck I'd be there straight away. They sound & look great though
one more point, is there any interest in the market for a t-bird IV or have i just got a stinking block of cheese?
I've had & sold on two. Both sold quickly & easily. Bear in mind though that Guitar Guitar have them in stock new for £199. Hard cases don't tend to add value, they just tend to improve your chances of selling. They are only really an investment if keeping the instrument.

HI Skylark, welcome to Basschat with what must surely be one of the more succinct introductions that I've seen
23. I don't know how it compares to the others but that Ampeg B100R is great fun & looks the part too
24. Well tonight it's Pocklington Arts Centre, Market Place, Pocklington, York, Northeast YO422AR - £14 - 30 Jan 2010, 20:00 08:00 PM We're playing an acoustic show opening for Gandalph Murphy & The slmbovian Circus of Dreams I'm told it's close to capacity so in the unlikely event any Basschatters are planning on going please check with the venue prior to travelling. I can assure you it's not us selling the place out!
25.
I found the new thunderbird very disappointing. Poorly finshed with overspray and blemishes, and the pickups had no punch or top at all. Worst of all was the substandard fret job. Some were visibly higher than others causing all sorts of issues. It went straight back!
That's disappointing and yet strangely unsurprising too. They look good in the photos but I'd managed to resist the temptation
