1.
Are these genuinely rare? I thought they were just the standard Jazz shape for about 4 or 5 years around the early 90s? If so, there must have been thousands sold.
That's what I thought - I think rare just means a little bit hard to come by these days.
2. Welcome Ben
3. Only ever had good service from GAK. I've not ordered for a couple of years but I've used them a fair bit in the past
4. I too disable comments on my videos. Some of the stuff posted is actually quite offensive. I've seen racist remarks that have remained for months that YouTube don't seem interested in taking down. Just bizarre. I agree, ignore the comments. And good call on the arm chair critics being asked to show us how it's done!
5. Wayne beat me to it. Although I think black might be a bit more appropriate for church?! Danelectro are uber light, uber cool and come in several hundred pounds under budget. A serious contender surely?
6. Probably worth more to you than to sell it. Effectively you have an old MIJ neck on a MIM body. The fact the tuners are from a 78 MIA is neither here nor there. You'd probably fair better breaking it up for parts. Don't get me wrong, the love that has gone into assembling it is clearly there but as a package I reckon you'd not get much more than £350 at most. Split it up and it'd be a different story. Looks great but from experience the modifications are always a personal thing and not to everyone's tastes
7. I played on some demos about 10yrs ago and was lent one by Andy Lewis who now plays for Paul Weller. I was blown away. I think they are great for recording. Obviously not the most sturdy but if you don't throw it about in the back of a van there's no reason why one couldn't be taken on tour. I bought a 63 long scale bass last year. Not as classic as that 90s Longhorn I used but decent for what it was. I'd say I was a fan overall
8. We played Bedford last night. A good show, we were well looked after, good crowd & headliners Nashville's The Bittersweets were really cool.
9. Welcome to Basschat
10. Hey Andy - I didn't start playing until 1988! Those Squiers back then were awesome & they seem to have come full circle with the new ones too. Been there with the Japanese P-basses & the 4003 too. Welcome to Basschat anyway
11.
It was a Sunburst, torty guard, maple neck with rosewood board, I suppose the only other thing was the strap button. again
Yep sounds like a 62RI, good luck with the search for one. They are great fun & you should be able to find one you like
12. I have an I serial number Fender MIJ P - bass from the following year which was my main bass throughout the 90s. The MIJ stuff is just great anyway. It might well be a 62RI but without more description it's hard to tie it down.
13. Played Open Mic last night & backed a couple of other acts on the Upright - some country guy from Louisana & a Jazz singer. Loved the country guy, less into the Jazz singer but nice to be asked.
14. Bump for Bedford! This is now an acoustic show 06 Feb 2010, 20:00 08:00 PM - Harpur Suite, Bedford with The Bittersweets The Harpur Suite at The Corn Exchange, Bedford, MK40 1LE - £12 Full band acoustic set opening for Nashvilles The Bittersweets http://www.eastwestpromotions.co.uk/ http://www.myspace.com/thebittersweets
15.
I've got one of the MIJ 70s reissue Ps. Brilliant bass, and personally I think you'd struggle to get a better Precision within your budget.
I agree. Slimmer neck too so if you like your Jazz, this fits in nicely
The P I've liked the most is the MIM 50s Classic. Of course you may not feel the same.
I agree with 4000 too. Despite your initial MIM views the Classic is a whole new league
16. Welcome to Basschat - hope you get back to playing soon
17. Hi Sam - Welcome to Basschat
18. Welcome to Basschat
19. Wow, great thread! I can certainly see a lot of validity in the original thread. I've always argued looks are key & I fully agree that most non musicians don't really notice tone. For me tone has been more of a quest in my later playing days. Initially it was about the image, then it became about playability and the tone came later. Perhaps because I got the other things sorted? However right now I'm certainly having a lot of fun on my tone quest
20. What they all said
