  4. Wow, great thread! I can certainly see a lot of validity in the original thread. I've always argued looks are key & I fully agree that most non musicians don't really notice tone. For me tone has been more of a quest in my later playing days. Initially it was about the image, then it became about playability and the tone came later. Perhaps because I got the other things sorted? However right now I'm certainly having a lot of fun on my tone quest

However my current singer is a real traditionalist and such a snob that if I dared show up with one of these I'd be fired! My response at the time was "Calm down Pete, they do them in different colours!". They sound the biz but I too prefer the traditional look - an opinion I usually challenge around 2am as I struggle up the stairs with my upright!
  7. Opinions are like a***holes, everyone's got one. Actually joking aside I agree with the general sentiment of what people have posted so far. My 1978 Precision is the mutts nuts. Whilst I would be quick to acknowledge it is regarded as a fact that there are a few turkeys from the 70s, there are also some absolute stunners too. A few things to watch for like weight, 3 bolt necks etc but I wouldn't be put off by the era. I am sure there are more people spouting the 70s were rubbish theory then there are people who have played 70s Fenders. I still remember when Japanese stuff was regarded as rubbish and having played a ton of the older instruments I can only agree with what everyone else is now saying.

  9. We drove 285 miles to play York last weekend with mine. This Saturday is Bedford. Right now that looks like Heaven! Are they expensive?

  13. I played through one & was really impressed. I have the SVT 150h which was what they did in the 90s. A great back up head for sets where I don't want to cart around a great big valve head

These really vary in price depending on condition. I use mine through an Ampeg SVT 115E
  15. I've done about 3 decent supports in the last few months & we have always had a good deal out of the venues / promoters. However I've found lower down the scale at pub gigs we've dealt with promoters who really should just call themselves "bookers" as they haven't done much in the way of promoting, passing this on to the bands to do.
