  1. If you read Bob's autobiography you'll find that even he was hugely influenced by his forebears and peers, notably Woodie Guthrie, and Odetta from the folk canon but also rock and roll performers like elvis and little richard.
  2. A month ago I missed my grandson's 4th birthday as we had a rehearsal booked for the thursday night and didn't want to forfeit the fee. I got an ear-bashing from my better half. This week I moved it to tuesday so I could attend my granddaughter's 5th last night. My better half stayed home in bed with Flu.
  3. Odd that you'd start a thread just to slag off a gig you're presumably not planning to attend. If we all did that the basschat servers would fill pretty quickly.
  4. found the time to listen to abbey road yesterday for the first time in ages and 'Something' has a quite wonderful bassline (although come together has been, and still is, my favourite from that album)
  5. yes one can When I learned teen town i was lifting the needle off the 8,30 album a million times.
  6. who are these 'greats' that he's not in the same league as?
  7. Don't like her vocals (trying too hard to be alanis morisette? ) and I couldn't hear much bass over the crap guitard. Maybe she should stick with Jeff Beck.
  8. As was pointed out above somewhere, people really are overthinking this. If you can pick up a musical instrument and make it do what it's supposed to, then, at that moment you are a musician. At other times you could be a parent or an IT guy or a total wombler. and Barking Spiders - I really don't think you need to have sight reading skills to be a musician unless yo want to play in some sort of orchestral ensemble. Plenty of folk that make a living at paying tunes have never learnt to read the dots. edit . "wombler" hah! what teenage boys get up to in their quiet moments
  9. if you're driving a BMW, I'd hazard a guess that most other drivers think you're a douchebag no matter what badge is on the bootlid.
  10. Relayer would have been the first tour I saw in 1975 with Moraz and as mentioned earlier, it blew me away enough to change instruments. Think I had to travel to glasgow a couple of years later to see them with wakeman on the going for the one tour.
  11. prompted me to look at some pictures of victor wooten and his fodera is indeed worn in that area. Can't think of any other players damaging their instruments that badly
  12. I can understand some wear above the lowest string cos that's where your fingers would fall to after plucking but under normal playing circumstances, how would the area between the G string and the edge get so badly worn?
  13. ...and has Run with the Fox. IMO the best xmas single ever. He also did at least one album with Billy Sherwood - Conspiracy. I've been a Yes fan since my bro turned me on to them. At the time I'd learned a little ragtime fingerpicking and I started trying to learn Mood for a Day. However, said Bro took me to see them at Newcastle city hall around 74/75 and once I'd seen how much fun Chris was having I've rarely touched the guitar since. CS has been a huge influence on my playing and I've seen Yes at least a couple of dozen times in the past 40 odd years. Last time was a year ago and I was terribly disappointed with the overall playing. Howe was missing runs, Downs was just rubbish, White didn't even make the stage till the encore BUT worst of all was Billy Sherwood's playing, tone and overall volume. He had no compression and just drowned out the rest of the band a lot of the time . First time I've ever left a Yes gig before they'd finished but Starship trooper was appalling. We weren't the only ones.
  14. I complete contrast, I usually order a couple of sets of DR black beauties from Stringthis in the USA. They usually come in a plain white envelope with no padding whatsoever. Never had cause to complain though.
  15. Surely all of Dream Theater's albums are random forays into odd time signatures. Now and again I get the feeling they're just taking the fosters.
  16. latest email.. Lee, Geddy "Geddy Lee's Big Beautiful Book of Bass" Estimated arrival date: April 03 2019 - May 25 2019
  17. The majority of Grateful Dead tribute bands name themselves after song lyrics. I was in Wildflower seed (from Frankllin's tower) for a while.
  18. Hmm. not sure about jamerson but Jaco played a 5.
  19. Worth every penny. I love my Chromes
  20. Levys. I've had three (one for each bass) for near enough 15 years. Little sign of wear and comfortable for a 12Lb Alembic.
  21. You might find the Mackie SRM450 better suited to your needs. £350 new but you ought to be able to pick one up second hand within your budget. Have a more neutral sound than the Thump. We use a pair for our PA and sometimes put the bass and drums through them.
  22. Don't think I've ever seen a board that comes pre loaded with anything but the loop side.
  23. We have them for Vocal monitoring. they're a bit stinky poo for everything else (apart from disco which is what they were built for)
  24. "However, I am not sure there are many Beatles Fans on BC." You'll probably find there are a lot more than you think. Posters most likely think it's cool to knock successful bands. I'm only 58 this year but was still aware of the beatles at an early age. My earliest memory of listening to music was hearing 'All you need is love' while in the back of the removal wagon in 1967
