  1. couple of months ago I bought a new 180gm pressing of Marvin Gaye What's goin on to replace a badly worn copy.
  2. But one of the response possibilities was 'I don't really think much of any of them' so he's perfectly within his rights to discuss why.
  3. Love the looks of this and would love to have a go. The darkglass heads just look too boring for my tastes. I also quite like EBSfreak's 4x4. Mind you my own car tends to stand out a bit in a crowd aswell..
  4. Tempted to go to this one. The trip down for Bass Day was always worthwhile.
  5. Just scored tickets for Kate Rusby at the assembly rooms Edinburgh in a couple of weeks. Can't wait.
  6. Surprised there's been no mention of Aerosmith's Walk this Way yet. ""Walk This Way" is the title of Aerosmith's 1999 autobiography. In the book, Steven Tyler deconstructs the lyrics to this song. Here's the breakdown: "Backstroke Lover" is our hero masturbating. His father catches him, and explains that he will someday experience the real thing. One day, he encounters the cheerleader along with "her sister and her cousin," and has a glorious sexual experience (Tyler cops to fantasies about two women at once, which is where this came from). The "walk this way" line is the experienced girl showing the young man where to put his finger - showing him how to walk. Inspiration came from make-out parties where this kind of thing could happen. Tyler points out that while the lyrics are sexually charged, it is the girl who is in control." And then it was covered by Sugababes and Girls Aloud for comic relief. i can't think of a less appropriate song for a bunch of teenage girls to be singing
  7. have a fosters before you go on
  8. BTW - I do my Basschat surfing at work - the underabanner website is banned.
  9. or maybe they're just a bit thick and don't know how to write a simple ad that gives someone enough info to know whether or not to investigate further
  10. The point that's been made is that we shouldn't need to go searching online (no matter how long it takes) when it would take the advertiser a couple of seconds to include the important points.
  11. It shouldn't be neccessary to have to go hunting the web for info that would have taken the OP maybe 20 seconds to add into his post - in doing so possibly getting more interest. You find the same with for sale ads on here. Some users have to be prodded several times to put in a location. edit - look at StewBLack's ad right next to this one for a masterclass in how it should be done.
  12. Her last (post divorce?) album was as depressing as brexit and only got played once in this house. let's hope she returns to something with a bit of life in it.
  13. My hard rock band are happy for me to use my markbass LM800 and 1x12 traveller at very small gigs and rehearsals. Easy enough to get a good SVt /Mesa style sound by tweaking the VLE and VPF knobs along with the standard bass-mid-treble controls.
  14. Not only am I in a similar situation but, believe it or not, the two guitarists will often help lift my Mesa cabs out of the car and carry them into the venue!!! The only think that could be improved would be getting more gigs.
  15. brilliant! I had Aaron make me a 5 stringer last Christmas for my Thomann (stunal) but I've been putting off fitting it ever since as I couldn't figure out how. Your solution looks ideal. Does the extra weight at the end of the fingerboard cause any noticeable tonal shifts?
  16. I've a particular liking for Godsmack's version of Come Together. Particularly as the styles fits in with what my hard rock band does. We're also doing an almost metal version of Helter Skelter.
  17. for a different take on things, I'll soon be putting my Mesa Boogie titan v12 up in the for sale section. Couple it with 4 ohms worth of speakers and you'll have 1200 watts of heft - more than enough to subdue even the most exuberent guitarists .

    Bass ID ?

I remember the first Burns Flytes were silver. That was soooooo cool and spaceage at the time. Remember when a silver car was a rare thing!
  19. In around 1975/6 my first bass was a homemade effort loosely based on a rick that had a bow in the neck that would have made robin hood jealous. Initially played through a 15 watt WEm dominator that blew up fairly quickly. This 'rig' was followed by a King amp (similar to orange/green) and a 2x15 cab that my dad refused to let into the house. The homemade bendy bass was followed in 1978 by another homemade fretless Gibson RD artist copy that I still have.
  20. The band is The One One Seven. standard 2 guitars, bass and drums. The gig on 19th October is a charity showcase I think so we're going to be using the house gear as we'll only be on for 45 minutes at most.
  21. What's the backline and drumkit like at ivory blacks Dave? Got a gig there in october.
  22. Or the battery in the active electronics dies. With Alembics there's little warning and there's no passive option. also, they put the battery inside the control cavity which is protected by a plate held in with at least 6 screws (they don't feel plastic quick access battery holders add to the aesthetics).
  23. for my hard rock band I take two 5 strings (one's for emergencies). This band also does an 'unplugged' americana session sometimes which I use my 5 string double for. For my blues band I take a 5 string fretless and 5 string EUB for the show plus a 5 string fretted for emergencies. Haven't taken any 4 strings out of the house since 1996.
  24. Thought we were talking about Kettles Saying that though, when did amps start getting kettle leads? Certainly my first few up to around 1994 all had hard wired cables - HH, Marshall, Carlsbro and a laney linebacker. First seperate lead I got was on a Trace 1210 combo I bought new in 1995.
