  1. in addition to the above comments, take your son to the guitar shop and let him try out a few to see what HE is comfortable with.
  2. There's a really good oxfam used record store in Stockbridge.
  3. There's an HMV in livingston still. About the only reason to visit though.
  4. That, plus a back rest, looks like the perfect addition to my home observatory. You never know where browsing basschat will take you
  5. Being a died in the wool Mesa fan I'd have to say the 400+ coupled to a diesel 215 or 1516 would give me all the tone and heft I'd ever need (plus a hernia).
  6. For pub gigs we use a mackie digital desk and a pair of powered Mackie SRM450s for front of house. 3 mackie thumps for floor monitoring plus a 4th on a stand for the drummer. Works well for us. I'm not going to tell you to do the same but what I will say is every type of stand mounted vocals monitor I've come across (including mackie) has been crap.
  7. 'Awesome' is how I look at it. Luckily we're all quite old with no ego hangups so we help each other with the load ins.Just as well cos there's no way I'd be able to lift that Mesa rig myself.
  8. He hits everything as hard as he can most of the time whether he's mic'd up or not. And he has a lot of things to hit.....
  9. Yes. Our drummer has three cowbells and has broken the mounts on all of them hitting them so hard.
  10. Me and Mica Wickersham at the workshop in 2012. And a shot of the workshop where our babies are born.
  11. The 'rewind' comment above made me think of these two that I will always restart if someone (i.e. mrs jacko) talks to me over the song.. Heart. Alone. ooooooo nancy wilson Tom Petty, Freefallin. Had a drive round reseda and ventura boulevard in 2012. Not as glamorous as I was expecting.
  12. Jackson. Not very imaginative but coming from the North east I've been jacko since middle school (long before I'd even heard of mr pastorius)
  13. dave. What's your band called and do you have a gig listing? I'd really like to hear your 70's glam stuff. graeme
  14. This is pretty much exactly what i'm looking for. Shame it's collection only.
  15. We recorded our Ep at Paul's halls last year. Turned out better than I was expecting but we did use our own gear. We share an old barn near dalmahoy with the drummer's son's band. It's a bit cosy but craigo gets to keep his double kick kit set up so he's happy. I often think rehearsing is a lot worse for drummers than us. Most studio kits are in appalling condition.
  16. I've had a Fender TBP-1 for around ten years. It's a very versatile 1u pre-amp with tube overdrive and the classic fender tone controls. I've tried allsorts over the years including SVP-pro and Alembic F1-x, not to mention several Mesa Boogie heads but i keep coming back to the fender for it's lovely rounded tone. It's coupled to a QSC PLX 2402 power amp and Mesa 410 and 210 cabs.
  17. in both my band's cases, we're mates and it's our hobby so I'm happy to go to rehearsals twice a week just so I can play some music and have a chat.
  18. Kate Rusby . Underneath the stars. Get a chill just thinking about her . Edinburgh next friday Forsaken. Dream Theater. Love vampire songs. And on a similar theme..... Lady Eleanor. Lindisfarne. One of my earliest favourites. Red Barchetta . Rush - there's actually dozens in their catalogue I'd happily listen to. Last Chance Texaco. Rickie Lee Jones - Paints such a melancholic picture Rubberband Girl. Kate Bush. Another artist with a favourites list a mile long.
  19. Or both amps. refreshing to read a thread that isn't about downsizing for a change
  20. WhenI was using two preamps (fender and ampeg) I used a silverblade HX3 splitter. Did the job.
  21. Difficult choices so the first 6 will be the ones I've had in the Car CD changer for the past 12 months. In no particular order.. Kathryn Tickell. The kathryn Tickell Band - One of her early albums jam packed with awe inspiring northumbrian small pipery. Dream Theater. Systematic Chaos. love the dark feel to this one Bonnie Raitt. Dig in Deep. has a great cover of Need you tonight - Hutch keeps the songs driving with his beautifully understated bass James Taylor. Hourglass. Jimmy Johnson holding it together Kate Rusby. Underneath the stars. hauntingly beautful voice and some fun songs. Miles Davis. Kind of Blue. includes so what and all blues - what more do you need then I'm going to add Deep Purple. Made in japan. Arguably the best live album ever made (and I saw this tour in Newcastle when I was 11) Yes. Relayer. As discussed on the favourite Yes album Thread. Squire at his best. Mozart's clarinet concerto in A major. Not sure of the performer - it came free with the BBC classical music mag 20 odd years ago. Kate Bush - Some career wide greatest hits album.
