1. yeah, but it's got 8 ohmios!
2. The Spector Legend 5s crop up s/h quite often. I picked one up for well under your budget and really can't fault it on any count. The 35" scale helps it have a very assertive sound. EMG pickups and pre-amp on mine too.
3. If it sounds ok still, leave it alone!
4.
so what you guys are saying is that barefaced cabs are sh*t?
Nah! dey DA sh*t!
5. Why not? It's what Hitler would have done (probably )
6. Air bassed my ass off at the works xmas party only this weekend. Can't beat "Good Times"!
7. Listening on small nasty pc speakers the bass drum is a bit missing and doesn't provide the drive. It may sound awesome on good speakers though!
8. I've done 3 with filler now, and 2 have had a little issue with only just enough adjustment on the truss rod. It could be just the basses though, as I had a fretted one of the same sort that wouldn't adjust far enough. Ended up replacing the truss rod on that one. I defretted a Vox standard and that was fine in every respect. The filler didn't seem to erode any more than the maple f/b.
9. My fretless Hohner Jack bass came back from an extended stay at my old guitarists house (was going to buy it when he got the money!) with one of the tuners no longer functioning - the thread in the sliding part was partially stripped and would not hold up under tension. The good news is I just managed to repair it with a Helicoil - type insert - there is JUST enough meat on the sliding part to drill tap and place the insert. It seems to work better than ever, a right result, and it only took ~5 minutes. If anyone else needs this doing, I'd be happy to once work has bought some new inserts . The threaded part of the adjuster does need to be intact though, but it is a standard m4 x 0.7 thread. Cheers Jules
10. A few weeks back, we'd just finished our soundcheck then the sound guy started playing some music through the PA. We'd recently been doing some demos at my place, so when one of our songs came on, I thought "how the hell did he get hold of that?" as only our singer had access to our demos, but it sounded great. When I asked the sound guy, he said it was what we'd just played in the soundcheck, stereo straight into his laptop! He did the whole gig later, but his hard drive died before the next time we played there I guess I wont ever know if it was just hearing it loud through the PA that made it sound that good...
11. Fair enough! Wonder how they got on?
12. Did you do anything with the Line6 combo?
13. Bob, you forgot the 2 U.S. Masters EP42 that you sold me! I got a lined fretless neck for the Lacewood one, which is my main gigging bass. The blue one now has the Pao Ferro/birdseye off the lacewood one.
14.
I think you'll find it's Les bollocks, in proper French like.
Les bollaux
15. Beware of "bargain" hifi speakers from the '80s and 90s with foam cone edge surrounds. They often look intact but will tear when cranked. I recently got some old JBL Control 1 pros with this issue. I did re foam them, but it was another £20 odd and a couple of hours work. Acoustic Research (AR) speakers are the same, I've refoamed 2 pairs now, with good results though. AR18s' are a nice sounding speaker for the money, above issue notwithstanding.
16. Found Electroharmonix Attack Decay too. Very rare apparently. My search turned up more when i used ADSR as a key word.... Pigtronix do an interesting ADSR compressor sustainer thingie too. some cool sounds to be had. Bet it's loads though.
17. Years ago, I tried to make a pedal from some mag which just affected the envelope of the signal, NOT a filter. Didn't work and I've since lost it (probably binned it in a fit of pique!) I've done a cursory search and got zip. Is there such a thing commercially available? Looking for a sort of bowed cello sound, but without the faff of pumping away on a volume pedal... Any help, youTuBe links etc. gratefully received Cheers Jules
18. Is the extra knob on the black one a "woofer" control?
19. Defunkt's "Thermonuclear Sweat" is unsurprisingly funky. Tasteful playing from Kim Clarke. Some horrible guitar playing on it though...
20. Played at the Wheatsheaf in Oxford last Friday with The Mark Bosley Band. It was a bit of an odd one. He (Mark) decided that we hadn't quite enough material (new drummer) for the hour so did 2 songs solo to start, then sent me and the drummer to the stands halfway through to do another couple of solo tunes. We still had 3 songs to do when the compare told us "one more tune!" Weren't best pleased. He got 2 friends up to sing Tomorrow Never Knows, and whilst being good singers on their own, well, lets say the song might not have been in their key... I gave him the news on the saturday morning. I just wasn't enjoying it enough and was having no input, the polar opposite of my main band.
21. [sup]I'd be tempted to get the one that's the least similar to the Groove sound-wise. The different sound may lead to different inspiration, and give you a different palette to play with.[/sup]
22. Just bought a Line6 Lowdown Studio 110 form David. It arrived promptly and superbly packed, and was in perfect condition, exactly as described. Very easy transaction and I would recommend him without hesitation. Thanks Jules
