1.
Hey Everyone! the new rig is finally Done! Almost anyway Glockenklang bass art classic pre Dynacord lx2200 class d power amp Mark Bass 4x10 x2 (one on order) Sounds sweet, am using a UK made bass, so big up for european gear
SAHHHHWEET!
2. I must state again, the headphone output is brilliant on this amp. Far superior to anything else ive tried. I cranked the tubetone for fun...and its actually very usuable for something like Muse. But, the sweet spot is about 1/3 tubetone...sometimes a littttle more.
3.
You should indeed give it more time. I would use a bass you know inside out as some set-ups have just so much EQ, you are going to go round in circles with a new amp with so much scope.
+1....agreed.
4.
Do the USA basses weigh less than the Skylines? I've owned a brace of Skylines (DJ and a pair of JO) and they were all pretty weighty beasts.
Apparently they do....not actually tested this.
5.
Its hard to explain, but the sound seemed to be all mids, with not a great deal of bottom, and our sound guy said it was masking the guitar sounds in some way? We had to dial a lot of the mids out on the bass, and a little on the amp, and turn the tweeters down, which left me with a warm fuzzy sound, which of course could have been due to the room, so I will reserve judgement until a few more gigs are under my belt. The bass sound on stage didnt travel to the far side of the stage very well though, when usually the guys can hear me fine over there. I did go to Bassdirect with the intention of buying a 210 and a 212, and actually preferred the sound of the 12s, but Mark explained that having a mixture of sizes wasnt always a good thing and the 10s would be great. I hope the addition of a single 12 may help? I didnt actually realize that the 212s would be that much bigger than the 210s either, which I didnt really want.
Ah I see. Hmm, I have settings but none of them are 'gig' settings yet. I was a little apprehensive about mixing, but I had an in depth email from TC (Uffe who seems to be behind the design) and he stated they are designed to be mixed. There is science that says you shouldn't, but damn it, it does sound good! I have dual 210s coming and a 212 so I have all options covered...the 12s do sound nice but I also wanted a vertical 4x10. The threads on talkbass are great, I'm sure they could help out. My advice would be to dial down the hi mids, boost the bass a few clicks, and fiddle with the centre freq. It's got great options...the most extensive eq I've used before. It is worth mentioning the first time I ever heard one in GuitarGuitar, the settings were awful and 'wrong' with the preset volumes way low. Next time I tried it properly and now I'm hooked!
6. That's a pretty good budget. What sound are you aiming for?
7. Do you mean the rig didn't have enough bottom end girth? I haven't gigged all mine yet, but I opted for a 212 as well so I had lots of choice. Despite the problems of mixing drivers, the rs212+210 sounds great to me at a highish volume. Are you missing the thump? Those tens are very punchy by nature. The amp has tons of low end...I have to back it off haha!
8.
I spend too much time talking about bass, buying and selling basses, reading about basses, looking at pictures of basses, watching bassists, etc., etc., and I need to scale that sh*t down and actually PLAY my basses. I think I have ability and musicality, but I'm not taking advantage of it, I feel neglectful and guilty about letting my bands down as a result.
Nigel, Im with you on this definitely! I spend too long GASSING and reading information when I should be playing and practicing. I have just joined a fairly pro band as well as a new originals band so I have to sort this out. Thanks....this has made me realise I have to stop being lazy and enjoy what instruments/equipment I have.
9. Yep....IMO, the new prices are plain crazy. Shame really
10. Hopefully now sorted for a covers/function band as well as and originals band.
11. If I wasnt skint Id be after this....
12.
I think this is top of my list. A Warwick Streamer $$ in Natural.
I ALMOST got one of those with 5 strings, for a REALLY good price, but my indecisive ways meant it was sold Now I cant bear to pay the price on the new retail prices.
13. I wish id sampled one of these good Laklands So far ive tried 3 brand new Darryl Jones basses, and they all had really bad QC for the price. Not only that, the last one I had a refund on has now turned up in another store...(I recognised the poor pickguard cutout and the paint blemish....and yep same serial number...except now £1200!!!!). I really REALLY want to find a good one. I was highly miffed when I tried 3 and got nowhere. I think im going to wait to see what happens over the next year with Lakland.
14. Proper rock n roll!
15.
Here you go:
Nice setup!
16. I noticed that! Very expensive flight cases. Must admit, about 4 months ago the RH450 on its own was more like £850 so the price has come down a fair bit. I think its down to the fact its selling quite well etc etc. I have just ordered an RS212....whoops. This one is going in the new function/covers band permanent practice space so I wanted something with a little more beef than the 210. If im feeling ridiculous, all three cabs together.
17. Keep the Ray....Im not a massive fan of the deluxe Fenders.
18. Went into town today and noticed there are loads of options. Arrgggh. I now also have the problems of needing a power bank...thinking the T Rex Junior might be right.
19.
The Boss RE-20 might be worth a look (it's basically a modeled RE-201 Space Echo). I think on bass you really need tap tempo to make good use of time-based effects.
Thanks guys. I know the TC Nova Repeater has tap tempo built it and it sound wonderful on the demos! It is mainly for guitar though.
20. Far too many options with this...need some help! Now, I know I wont get the perfect sound....as Im using no effects loop (Dual Terror) but I like my delay in the clean sounds anyway. What is the best sounding delay pedal that isnt crazy money, and isnt packed with lots of features? I had a Line 6 DL4, and if im honest it was overkill for me. I have a few choices...some digital some analog. My sound? Im looking for spaced out type post rock....Godspeed, early Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky. I also like dark indie like Interpol etc etc. Even though I dont like U2, I do like their typical delay sound they have. Whats the best to go for? Analog? Digital? I dont need loads of features, just a fantastic pedal! I have come across a few I like the sound of: MXR Carbon Copy TC Electronics Nova Repeater Any other ideas? I want it to be a plug and play kind of pedal...no messing with lots of programming etc etc. I dont think I need presets really. Which will give me a great 'lost in delay' type of delay where you can turn the knobs and it just sounds chaotic, through to nice and clean delay?
21. Hi chaps Im after a power supply for my Tech 21 BDDI, (if I use it non-DI) Aguilar Tone Hammer, (18v again if I use it non-DI) and the new TC Electronic Polytune. Is it worth me buying a power supply? Or should I stick to batteries? I have seen the Tech 21 and Aguilar power supplies, and they are upto £40 for both....so may as well get a brick or stick to batteries. Which is the best power brick for about £60 that can do 9v and 18v? Cheers PS The Polytune manual says: Power in- use a 9 VDC power supply Power out- If you use an external power supply you may use PolyTunesTM power out to daisy-chain power to other pedals. • Do NOT connect an external power supply to POWER OUT. This could cause malfunction or damage to PolyTuneTM. Current draw on daisy-chained pedals may not exceed 2A. • Be sure that your power supply delivers sufficient power to cover the power consumption of all pedals. • Place PolyTuneTM before drive and distortion pedals for best tuner indication. the receiver.
22. Thats a good deal. I paid £70 more than that...but saved a bit on other bits n pieces, incl the cabs.
23. Yep, pics please. Looking for a backup.
24. I've got two and never noticed this problem. Hmm!
25.
The 550D isnt out until at least next month so for now its something i will get at some point but in no hurry. For video the 7D is tops but its over 3 times the price of the 550D. Ive been told i can get one for just under £500, body only from a private seller who i (and many others) have dealt with in the past. PM me if you want more info. Its all legit. The 5DmkII (is this the one you mean?) is a great camera but older than the others so it might be cheaper but like you say, its video features are quite basic. Ive still got no amp or pedal GAS. Im more than sorted for amps as i have a good spare rig already. And if i start to rely on my BDI21 more ill get a Sansamp BDDI but other than that i dont want to use pedals. Cant be bothered with all those extra cables to be honest. Ive seen the VM Jazz for about £220 new and to me thats a bargain. There is one for sale on here but for £200 and collection so i dont think ill bother with that one. Something second hand around £150 would be ideal though. By all accounts its a decent player and im not to bothered about a prefect finish, not at this price although i bet its better than the DJ5 you had ;-)
Hahah, probably! Same here, I want a bass I can not worry about. So, the search is on! Ill PM you about the camera! Cheers
