1. I think if you are thinking JUST a bedroom combo for practice, stay as low priced as you can. Otherwise, youve got that awesome Mesa combo you can use instead! Ive never tried an Orange combo, but they look pretty!
2. Thats one compact little combo! I look forward to your thoughts on the sound
3.
The sound of the amps are great, but it's the bells and whistles that elevate it above much of what's out there.
+1, thats what sold it for me.
4. I think my opinion is obvious. I would snap that instrument up in the for sales if I could. Refin? Hmm, as long as the price reflects that, then fair enough. I would be particular about correct case, case candy if possible. Its not that hard to keep all these things together if you are careful. IMO, Fender instruments look 'cool' anyway. Its just like I think Lambretta's/Vespa's also look cool. I definitely consider myself a person that enjoys 'classic' designs. Maybe its because they have been around for so long that many of us class a good Fender as the Holy Grail! I notice so many people on this forum going back to a Fender P, just because no other instrument sounds like a P. They might get VERY close, but its not that sound im afraid. Ive tried it, and I came right back.
5. Hmmm! That is odd...and may cause confusion.
6. If you were closer up north I would have come to at least get a demo...nice looking bass.
7. I would like to add I wont be tinkering with an onboard pre! I bought the Aguilar Tone Hammer to be able to have this option but with every single bass, and no mods, and cheaper! Ok, it depends if you like the Aguilar sound, but its definitely for me
8.
I just love blocks and inlays.
Swish photograph Dave!
9. Ill be getting some pics up on this soon...but alas the cabs are not here yet.
10. Ah yes! The audere sounds like a great upgrade. It was exactly that last night....the E and A were lost completely....but when the guitars werent riffing the bass sounded fantastic. As soon as a band came on with a P...the thump came back. I tend to find I can use less volume with a Precision...which again might be setup or pickups...but there we go!
11. My view? Check the for sale forum and pick up a MIJ Precision Bass. I had one for 15 years, and it was FANTASIC for the price. I sold it for £360 approx...and they hold their value.
12. Bargain!
13. I went to a small local gig last night. Small PA, Marshall/Mesa half stacks, loud drummers, etc. 2 bands had Precisions, one had a Jazz. Now I love the tone of both of these instruments, but I noticed the Jazz just didnt have that heft of the P. Obviously a lot of variables to take into mind, but I believe they all used the same amp/cab. Even I find at home, the Precision sits amazingly well in a mix through my headphones, yet the Jazz coasts alongside. This is in a rock context. Maybe its just the EQing, but a P just sounds awesome in a mix. The Jazz sometimes sounds a little more polite and sweeter, nice for soloing on the bridge pickup, but for no frills rock and roll, the P sits better. This is something Ive been noticing more and more....with other larger bands as well Ive been watching.
14. Hahhaa, they discussed this on talkbass, and the normal argument of 'dont mix drivers' came up. I dont really think Tecamp would make a cab that doesnt work...they make fantastic gear. Even if you shouldnt mix drivers, phase issues, and all that, I bet it sounds IMMENSE if you have an amp powerful enough.
15.
This is mine.
Thats cool!
16.
I have found a possible neck donor for my P project but it is blocked and bound .Has anyone seen this done before?
Yep, Lakland do the same thing! Looks pretty nifty!
17. Hmm...my friends Dad had a USA G&L....he loves it...we compared it years ago to the Stingray I have. I must admit, the G&L has more tonal options, but it does not nail the sound I wanted in my head. The Ray sound is perfect for me, and yep, I love the shape/finish/tone etc.
18.
Cheers for the heads up. I dont mind a slight reduction in bass responce if it means I am getting an even more compact and light cab. Also, I play mostly chord based classical stuff, well above the 7th fret normally and in all fairness a slightly less bassy cab sounds better for that sort of use. Hopefully that makes sense.
Ah, I see, then maybe the Markbass is probably a good solution for you.
19.
HI everyone need some advice. I have just sold my genz benz gbe750 and 2x12 cab because i got a great deal. Basically, i have a Dynacord lx2200 class d power amp.. its 1100 watts per channel at 4 ohm, and is light as a feather. The headroom is unbelievable, so a bass through it sounds amazing! I really want to use it, as this amp is worth about 1799 on its own, but i need help. Basically i want a nice valve preamp.. tempted with a summit audio td100 but might miss eq... then in terms of cabs, i want two 4x10's really, but am stuck between bergantino and markbass. I can get the markbass cabs at trade price, but would have to pay full wack for the bergs.. in just a bit stuck with what to do really... ANy advice JMT
This is just me, but I would go for the Markbass if you get them at trade. They still hold their value despite sometimes not being the favourite cabs. I like Markbass cabs, I dont own any, but Id like a few of their smaller ones. I do believe Markbass have a new line of cabinets due out so I would see what options they have. What size gigs are you playing? The reason I ask is one Markbass 4x10 might cover it (4ohms). Two of the new 2x12s might be quite nice! Markbass as you probably know have the classic 4x10s, classic 8x10, and the new yellow speaker 8x10 which is apparently pretty damn light for its size. If you go Berg, the NV610 will slay any Ampeg 8x10 going. It will also slay your bank balance! I nearly went for one second hand a few times on basschat, but I just cannot fit it in any car without changing it to an estate or fiddling with the seats. Its a shame...one day I will no doubt bite the bullet and get one anyway...but until ive got a safe and reliable way of getting it around, I cant get one
20.
Well i guess i could always trade/sell the 2x10 on at a later date and get another 1x12?! hmmmmmm Look how gorgeous the white hot ones are wow!!!
I must admit, and this is no reflection on what others may have found, but I prefer the Aguilar 'sound' over even more boutique manufacturers. They are the perfect blend of great looks, great build, awesome tone, smooth horn, great articulate performance, and the ability to do balls out rock/metal as well as jazz/blues and still 'fit in'. Not only that, but they are held with high regard throughout the bass world. The white is cool....but get a cover!
21. Personally? Id choose the Stingray....on looks and tone. Not only that, it seems my Rays almost play themselves...so sensitive I can play very lightly. The Rick...well Ive always wanted one, but I wont get one. Why? The dreaded problems I hear about. Necks/finish/binding...etc etc. Just cannot be bothered. They LOOK and SOUND fabulous though. The Warwick? I wouldnt mind a Corvette $$ or Streamer $$...but I really need to play the necks first. My opinion, if you struggle to play a neck, it means more than likely a technique adjustment is in order, and it might help build more muscles in your hands...(thats just a guess). Im used to P necks and my hands are small.
22. I must admit the RH sounds great with P/J basses. But, even my Rays sing through this amp. I am keeping the LM3 purely because I like the Markbass sound, and it really does click with the Ernie Bal sound.
23. Definitely give it a test....it might hit the sweetspot. I have no problems mixing drivers...eg 4x10 with 1x15 (yep, people say this is a bad idea, but I like the sound it makes, so meh). Recently, I heard the TC RS210 with 212, and it sounded FANTASTIC.
24. These really are fantastic cabinets. One thing I will add, the NY121 is also great, but you might lose some end and grunt.
