1. If all goes to plan Im hopefully receiving the compact first on Tuesday ish
2.
A smidgeon taller, more sensitive, slightly greater power handling, more midrange, less bottom. Slightly heavier because each 12" driver is almost as heavy as each 15" driver. Alex
Cool! Well hopefully Ill try this Compact thats on tour...see how it fits in....then also have a think on the double midget. All in all the double midget sounds impressive.
3. I think I will be giving them a miss. The Terror on the other hand will be a great addition to the amp arsenal.
4. The double midget sounds good...how will it compare in weight to the Compact...and how will it compare in tone? I presuming roughly the same size?
5. Does anyone know or can anyone confirm if the Aguilar DB Boss tweed is actually the proper material? It looks like the real thing. Or is it just some sort of tolex, (no idea how they would do this!)? Thanks
6. The sound samples of the precision through the 1x15 and 1x12 models are quite nice. No idea how true to source they are though. Nice to see Fender doing a new bass amp, but c'mon, make it all tube.
7.
Problem with the isobaric designs is that they're still going to be limited by the excursion limited output of the drivers on the outside. So the 2x10" will only be able to move as much air as a 1x10" and the 4x10" will only be like a 2x10" in terms of maximum fatness at gigging volume. Maybe I'm being too harsh but it strikes me as design by the marketing department - more watts and more drivers equals more better. But in reality, not. Alex
I can see exactly what you mean. This is why i'm not 100% on them...depends what they actually sound like in a band situation.
8. The last time I recorded, I used my old MIJ Fender Precision. First take, everything was fine. My guitarist asked why it didnt need much eq'ing on the desk...the soundman simple said: 'its a Fender Precision, its very hard to make them sound bad'. He was right, it sounds thick, clear and punchy
9. I think the Epifani's always give you a nice tight pillowy bass sound
10. I reviewed my new Precision and Jazz. Best Fenders ive looked at, played, and heard....but I have little experience with proper vintage Fenders. The new series is stunning.....its even turning heads with people who normally dont like Fender. I bought a natural USA Jazz about 7-8 years ago and it sounded weak, badly set up, poor finish. I took it back and got one of my MM's. But I still craved the Jazz. Ffwd to last month, I realised Fender had got back onto form, and this Jazz is stunning. You just cannot beat passive Fenders....they are so right! BTW...can I ask, you own Sadowskys...which are always classed as uber-amazing Fender's basically, so why do you want a normal passive Fender? If I GAS for a Sadow, will I acheive TRUE jazz bass tones, or a more modern version? I really like classic passive Fender tones. Hope this helps. Try one out....
11. My experience would be to get the 6.0 head on its own and pair it with something still light, but slightly larger. Although....you might not want that!
12. Isnt the Tiny Terror VERY low wattage, but super loud? A lot of my guitarist friends moved from half stacks to nice low wattage high end combos...
13. 'Hybrid Bass Amplifier Combo (12AX7 Vacuum-Tube Preamp/Efficient Class-D Power Amp)' Even though I wasn't going to buy one, they took my eye as my eyes always roam to nice looking gear, (same with women really....hahaha). http://www.fender.co.uk/fba/bassmantv/ Nice site though.
14. This is interesting. I would really like to get a fretless at some point. 5 string bass first, then fretless 4. Does anyone have any idea of a fretless, fender type body, jazz pickups, around the £1K mark (maybe a little more)? Im guessing the Tony Franklin is probably right for me....have I just answered my own question? I would really like the single coil at the bridge for that smooth jaco quack tone. Hmmm... I'd also like an ebony board.....is this the norm anyway? I've no idea if its normal to have passive or active, or whether it even matters! Thanks
15. I'm trying to find close up's of Jeff Ament (Pearl Jam) playing nice melodic fretless parts. I failed. I found this....wow is this old http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYc72UFX02U...feature=related I REALLY like Pearl Jam.
16. I emailed Orange asking if I could test one on tour. As yet, the 500 is not out, and the 1000 is still going through testing. Their marketing is working though; most bassists seem interested. I can't wait to be fair. I'm not sure the new cabs are to my tastes, but i'm sure a test will reveal this. If they do sound good, i'll be after a 2x12. If not, I'll be using my 1x15 for small gigs with the Bass Terror. The 1000 version might be overkill for me...unless its like the Shuttlemax with two sides of amp inside. Apparently both Terror's have an ohm switch!
17. Even though I've just bought a Berg....I still want these. If they were Tweed id' be even more GASSED up. Damn good cabs.
18. Im still quite interested in a Genz amp. I might try the Shuttle Max 6....but they are quite a lot 'bigger' in size.
19.
+1 Went there for the first time on Saturday to try out some new heads - staff were really helpful, service was great (bearing in mind that it was a Saturday and full of kids trying their best Slash impressions on Guitard Hero) - needless to say got my shiny new Gallien Krueger. No experience of London bass shops - not sure it's worth the hassle, Colchester's only an hour away from home One happy Bottle
+ 1 - Bass Merchant are great. Darren and co have great prices and make you feel relaxed!
20.
Thant kind of buzz it a way of life with passive basses. Out of interest, where have you got the horn set? The horn in the HS410 is INCREDIBLY lively. I have it rolled almost off on my HS210s. If you've got the knob dialled to 'normal' levels, you're probably hearing the buzz far more than you're used to.
Hey Yeah at first it was set on 'normal'....half way ish....I tried it quite high and it is in no way harsh or piercing...just sweet! But I dont need it that high. I will roll it back a little below the middle setting and see what we get. I remember this bass buzzing a few years back, so Ive probably just not noticed for a while!. Thanks! I cant wait to start gigging this Berg.
21. Electrical Buzzing from Bass Hi Guys This used to be an issue for me quite a while back in certain practice rooms and gigs. I have just bought Geoff’s HS410, (originally Toasted’s) for a great price. I got it home, gave it a quick clean and made sure I knew how to remove the casters etc. Anyway, great condition can’t wait to use it properly. I need to be much more precise with my finger style as this cab reproduces everything very accurately. However, I did plug my LM3 into a different socket than I normally do, and I only used my old MIJ Fender Precision. I had that annoying ‘buzzing’ whenever I took my hands off the string etc. Normally, when I try gear out in that room, I use the surge protector that the TV uses. This time I was only giving it a quick check over so I didn’t bother. Obviously when I tried the horn a little higher, and realised it was quite a sweet clear and un-harsh horn, the buzzing got a little louder. Again its only when you take your hands off the metal parts of the bass. I’m assuming it’s either the socket or the old Bass? Is it anything to worry about? Nothing cab wise im guessing? Thanks guys!
22.
I've just settled on two EBS Neoline cabs. 1x12 & 1x10. Done a few gigs with them and I'm very happy. Super light, great sound especially in the mids / highs. Love the two handles that also act as a subtle wedge. I may change the 1x10 for a 1x12 soon. Also done a few gigs with just one cab. The 10 will cope with very small restaurant gigs but lacks a bit of low end IMO. The 12 has performed very well in medium sized rooms with drums, etc... It has much better low end than the 10 obviously. Together they sound great and I think two 12's would sound huge.
Hey Ive never tried EBS gear….interesting! Thanks for the input. I’ve just bought Geoff’s Berg HS410, so im giving the modular neo setup some more thought. I can’t justify spending just under £100 more on ONE AE112 compared to the price I got on the HS410. So, Berg is out for me….I’ve got a great Berg here so I’ll have to check other 1x12 manufacturers. In addition, me and Geoff had a chat about weight and casters when I bought the HS410, and we both came to the conclusion that If I buy two Aguilar DB112s, I actually have more weight than one of my DB212s, and with no casters. They would also weigh more/the same as the HS410 which seems mental. Sure, they are more modular, which is brilliant, but I don’t see the point in my scenario on getting anymore Aguilar cabs! Just a waste when I have two DB212s and one is damn loud on its own. Two is literally chocolate thunder! So…something that isn’t Berg or Aguilar. And this time, it HAS to be neo and modular. I have plenty of ceramic cabs. Has anyone got any experience with the Traveller Series Mark Bass 1x12s and 2x10s? I picked one up once, and it truly was completely lightweight. They seem to sell quite well on here too. I don’t want to go for something like this if they aren’t considered good cabs…I’ve heard some reports that their cabs are not as good as their amps. As much as Schroeder has had problems recently, the 1212BMF and the 15+ L are VERY small and modular. Also, Barefaced Midgets and Double midgets are a possibility. If they can do what Schroeder does, and push a lot of power in a light package, with 2x12s, but take away the worry that Schroeder brings with it, then I might go for one. I’m also tempted by Epifani…despite me originally being put off them.
