1. As the wood is going to be such a special piece....Im starting to wonder if I should not get it painted. Hmmm. I think id have to see some in the flesh first.
 2.
Yup He's not paying Sei type rent for a place in London, he's not paying for staff and a shop like Overwater and, to be honest with everyone, he doesn't charge enough.... That's about it as far as I can see. he is also up for one offs and "different" basses rather than variations on certain body types or shapes etc..That's how you get things like Dood's Doodles and Kiwi's Midi headless...
Ah yes, thats makes sense. Well...if anyone has any pictures of more 'vintage style' Jazz 5'ers from Shuker...please let me know. Blocks and bindings are a must! Im not getting LEDs, and I definitely want the best 'vintage sounding' 60/70s type Jazz pickups, but with the ability to go into a nice 3 band EQ...it all has to be the right tone and style for me.
 3.
My quest for a new rig has ended, here is the result Sounds brilliant, the Mid control on the preamp is absolutely amazing, so many useable sounds set up is - Glockenklang bass art classic preamp - STK class d power amp 600w per side (temporary while bigger amp gets a repair) - Mark bass 4x10 "standard" x 2 its good
Jees...I bet that packs a wallop!
 4.
Too cheap. I'd have thought 1500 in that condition but what do I know.
+1...id love a fretless P, and im sure Clarky would. If I had £1k id have this...seriously. Thats a massive bargain.
 5. What I want to know about Shuker is how they compare to a Sei or Overwater? The prices seem lower for a similar bass with Shuker...is there a reason? That P bass looks sweet.
 6. Hi I am living in Newcastle, but Im off back to see the parents nearby you in early April. I am after a cheap and cheerful bass that I can throw about basically. As long as it plays alright and the action isnt high im not bothered about dings etc. Ill keep me eye on this...not entirely sure what funds ive got yet or whether ill have money when I visit home.
 7. How big do you want the rig to 'sound'? Many of the new 1x12s x 2 will be enough for most players...or a 2x12. If you want bigger than that, 4x10 is the way to go, but just get an efficient cabinet.
 8.
I've just purchased the USA G&L L2500 lined fretless from sshorepunk and firmly believe it will be the most versatile bass I'll own and may be my only bass (however I'll still have the GAS for the Vigier/Stingray punch!). Common consensus is that G&L are highly underrated?? The fingerboard is hard ebony so I can slap, should I need to and use roundwounds. I'll be able to get jazz/precision and near stingray tones adding and taking away the fretless nasal mwah when not needed - my guild was a fretless but it was easy to wipe out the tone with the precision punch. Got the B string i've been nagging for finally so no mid gig drop tuning. It looks bloody good, transparent green n black hardware n board!! But I've heard they're heavy so I'll probs name it the 'incredible bulk'. I was intent on having one bass because I haven't the money for any more at current. I've found the same versatility with my ESP PC-2V guitar. I just think this has been what I've been searching for, very grateful for TGevans' review which I recieved through pm - and he kindly offered to let me test his G&L out. I thought I'd found this kind of versatility with the VL Lightwave I recieved from Happy Jack but I was worried about the optic pickups should they ever need servicing. Needless to say I'm very excited!!! Anybody else found their holy grail bass of versatility??
Fender Precision! Believe it or not.
 9. Wow http://www.nordstrandguitars.com/images/205_big.jpg
 10.
You got so much scope in that price range....Its the sort of price range where MOST.. of the top builders price there top of the line basses....even some of the hyper basses are in your price range second hand..Ken Smith, Celinder, Alleva, etc.. I personally would write a list of stuff you do love on a bass... and stuff that you dont like..then with that list wittle down what comes into line with what you want...Or if your going custom communicate this with the builder... or the other way, is to go out and try as many different basses as possible..then with all that knowledge under your belt, take it from there.....Myself i would look at Nordstrand, Sei...Martin Peterson is a genius... I think its great to name loads of amazing instrument makers, but you would be suprised at how many you dont like...there all very different.. Your welcome to try my Sei J5 if your ever down this way...
Hi! Many thanks for the advice and offer. A list is a really good idea. I think I will start a checklist now.
 11. Cool little bundles here: http://www.dv247.com/guitars/orange-terror...2-bundle--72324
 12.
Really? One of your favourite gear manufacturers? I'd never have guessed... </sarcasm> I don't blame you at all! They are producing some top stuff.
Hahha...its that obvious isnt it.
 13. TBH, best option. Use the Mesa as a separate amp and get a quality bag for it. Then you can still have a combo-ish (just sat on top of it) or two cabs at once! I would LOVE to hear this amp with two Mesa cabs. I have 0 amp or cab GAS now, but if I had spare money, id get a Walkabout Combo just for the sheer hell of it.
 14. If this was for sale next year it would be the 30th birthday bass ive been looking for! Shame
 15.
Thanks... What about the price of this stuff?
I find the MB amps are a good price, even new. I think the cabs are a little expensive new though.
 16.
Gareth, have you ever played one of these? The last T-Bass I played at the factory blew away two of Mark King's KingBass Mk-II's. The T-Bass is a stunner
Interesting! Not seen these before. Thanks
 17.
Thanks again for the feedback. The more I hear that the Skylines are reasonablty close to the US in terms of feel, the more I am put off even trying one. I don't like the neck profile on the Skyline 55-02 or the satin feel so I doubt the 55-94 is what I am after, Think I will stick with the Overwater after all. Off topic slightly but another thing I literally just found out is that Lakland don't actually make their own bodies and necks even for the USA models. Now I know there has been some talk of other companies having another party make the basic parts (Sadowsky NYC models to name one) and I know they do amazing finishing work and produce amazing instruments, but it takes away a bit of the romance for me when the bass is not actually made by the company. I suppose a small requirement for me at that price point would be a handmade instrument. You take Overwater, Sei, Shuker, MTD they all make their own stuff and thats what makes them special to me. Sorry off topic and not meant to insult any companies or owners, I am just slightly suprised.
I am also tempted by Overwater and Sei at the moment!
 18. The standard chromatic mode is very precise anyway...plus it looks slick and it's tiny! Personally TC are becoming one of my favourite manufacturers, despite them being mainly digital.
 19.
Put frets on it lol. Sorry, couldn't resist. Is it just me or does anyone think these look really cheap and nasty? Like one of those Behringer copies.
Oh heck I hope it aint lol. I ordered one as soon as I knew about it. I very rarely need to tune but its nice for use with guitar as well. I think the fact its more accurate than my last pedal made me want to buy it, plus its got Polytune function! I probably wouldnt have gone for it until I realised how great TC gear is in general. I think they are trying to offer the industry standard tuner, (eg taking over Boss TU-2/3...but thats going to be tough going!)
 20.
I am looking to buy a small amp head and am thinking hard about the Orange Bass Terror. However, I am aware that its not exactly the smallest available and, having liked the tone I used to get out of a Markbass R500 (their 'rock amp' with valve pre-amp), I wondered about the new Little Mark Rocker. It appears to be basically a downscaled version of the R500 but with LM bells and whistles (notably the VLE control). I know they are not due in the UK until end-March but has anyone heard one or seen a demo of one?
Although I dont have GAS for one of these (surprisingly!) I would also be interested to hear what these sound like. I wonder how MB have worked the overdrive?! If im honest Clarky, I have a sneaking suspicion the balls out rock tone of the Bass Terror might be a great option for you. I tested one out and it definitely breaks up nicely and weighs bugger all. Its simple yet effective and has some tubes, (I think!).
 21. I think the general consensus that I found out was that a GOOD Skyline is very near a USA. But...Ive yet to find a really good Skyline that I wanted...apart from a Sunburst one in Bass Merchant. They all sound amazing to me, but like Ive mentioned before, recently their QC is worse than ive experience with Fender! I blame it on them becoming popular and the fact they are basically almost 2 years old before they get here to be sold. Thats my experience anyway. If I lived in the US, Id have a few Skylines without a doubt....Id be really picky but Id find them. Dave seems to have had some absolute belters. I recently looked at a 55-02...must admit it looked brilliant, but a little too modern for me. Price tag was also astronomical for a non-US built instrument.
 22.
These chocolate DB's need to stop coming up. Im having a hard time over here! Do you plan to replace them with anything or are you just thinning the heard?
If im honest....I would feel rather 'empty' without them. How daft does that sound? These are currently my No 1 when it comes to the sound I really like, hence I put them as a feeler. I was thinking of downsizing to GS112s or DB112s but im not entirely sure if thats the right move yet. I dont want to have a collection without Aguilar cabinets.
 23.
Bass Direct now officially have these in stock so ordered one today! Exciting! One thing to note, it's not clear whether this tuner lets you have the tuner on and still have your bass signal going through it to your amp (like the DT-10 bypass feature). I quite like this feature for constant intonation monitoring on fretless, though I have a solution for this anyway if it turns out that the tuner doesn't support this feature.
Ah they have hit the UK. Mine should be here this week...yes
 24.
I think the body looks cool, the headstock looks like I carved my girlfriend's name into a piece of dry dogshit.
Best quote ever.
