Personally? Lm3 all the way. I love the warmth and low end from mark bass amps.

Hi everyone Just putting this out as a feeler. Basses I'm interested in would be: Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 5 H or H+S. Fender TF Fretless Precision in Sunburst. Money adjustment can be discussed. If it was for straight sale, because it is literally showroom condition, (you WILL be impressed) then im asking for £810. This bass is perfect. Brilliant low action, new EB Slinky Srings. You will find it difficult to find a new stock Stingray thats been hung in a shop in better condition than this. It is 10/10..no doubt. Even in the bright light, there is no light marks or swirls at all. No fretwear or marks on the neck. I will as always consider PM offers. I can negotiate price and an as new hard case, (Hiscox...very nice quality and pretty light despite the fact its very strong). I am based in North-East England. I can consider shipping if you know a reliable shipping company
What about TC Electronics cabs? I've been offered a deal. I can't wait a month or so for a Barefaced cab. No patience and I've gigs coming up. Plus I can get these locally which I like. I was thinking of the RS210 plus an RS112. The full lot for bigger gigs, just the 2x10 for smaller ones and just the 1x12 for rehearsals.
IMO the TC cabs are well worth the money. They sound great, dont weigh that much, and are mid-price range. I went from Berg to these cabinets and im really impressed. I still want some Berg ER 12s though!
A HI STANDARD FAN! I think a miracle just happened somewhere! I too love those crazy japs. I was sad to hear when they split I didn't actually know this festival existed! I'm paying for a new bass and all sorts of other stuff at the moment so nahh But hearing that the Bosstones are playing kind of makes me want to drop everything and escape to belgium haha. You goin'? Chris
Hi Chris I sure am. I missed out last year because of my Law Course falling on that weekend...but now ive completed that I am free to go! Booked everything just recently. Bad Religion! Yep Fat Wreck have some pretty amazing, and quite technical, modern punk. I miss the mid 90s though. Gareth

Why are these basses not more popular? I know a few guitarists who use the more 'metal' inspired guitars....well made but the tone is far too modern and scooped for me.

Fitting TI Flats to an 09 USA Precision
Musicman20 replied to Musicman20's topic in Accessories and Misc
Fit as normal (through body is fine) but you will have to slacken the truss rod off a quarter or half turn as the tension on TIs is lower than Fender stock rounds. Quick and easy to do on modern Fenders due to easy truss rod access and the stock red-handled tool they provide. Just keep tweaking until its how you want the action, but be aware that it takes a bit of time after each adjustment for the neck to settle down (so what may seem perfect action immediately post-adjustment may be slightly different the following day).
Thanks Ive yet to ever turn a truss rod....scary stuff Thanks though! -

Finally joining the 'covers/function' scene
Musicman20 replied to Musicman20's topic in General Discussion
I can definitely say this is a positive experience. My playing has come on more than I imagined in the past month! Thats from playing 2-3 times a week for a few hours and trying to play every track fingerstyle. 1 year ago my plec skills were very very good, and my finger skills were a little weak. Now my fingerstyle has really come on, in so much that I am starting to prefer it with certain types of music. It 'feels' better for some reason, especially with those fingerfunk style tracks. I have also started to roll off tone on my P's about 1/3-1/3, which I never did before. Last night I really wanted my flats on the bass just to have that perfect P thump, but Im waiting for the stock Fender strings to wear out first. The stock strings are a higher gauge to what I am used to, so no doubt when I stick my TIs or a set of lower gauge DR stainless strings on, Ill be even quicker than I thought. Those lessons I had when I was 13/14/15 are paying off. -
I have my first 'wedding' gig booked in a forest up in Scotland, (I have yet to be told the location). The date is in June. Basically, the couple want a 'festival' wedding, and we are playing along with some other rock cover/originals bands. The money is quite good and we are getting put up and fed/watered. Quite looking forward to it. Apparently they are erecting a proper stage for it, obviously covered in case of bad weather.

Can you go out from an output of the Sansamp BDDI or Aguilar Tonehammer into headphones? I would really need wireless though...I could not deal with another cable to the pedal especially to my head. Ill see how this new band goes first...they dont play silly loud, so I can hear myself even DI'd with BDDI.

I think a North East Bass Bash is on the cards.... I have no car now due to living literally in the centre of Newcastle and it was just a waste to have it sat there when I can walk and get in shape more. That will mean a lack of my gear at the bash....but maybe I can work around that. -
TheMarkbass CMD121P is a great home amp and can cut the mustard live as well. Again expensive, but really top notch.
Id love one of those...I often think of selling the LM3 to get a combo but not sure I want to just yet.

Good choice! I want a Classic Series Ray!
Mate, you can make this Corvette sing. The necks are amazing, so are the pups and tronics. The bass balances beautifully too. You can adjust the string spacing. I have mine narrow too. Consult the manual in your user kit about how to do this. I reckon you can love this bass. get it set up and give it a chance, no point losing money. Let us know how you get on and if you need any help. All the best mate.
+1...try and get it to your liking first rather than take a big loss on it.
You're probably not going to like this but if you ever were to be selling then now would be about the right time. The price for second hand 'rays has soared recently. It's probably cheaper to buy one from the USA and pay all the charges now than pay some of the asking prices on here at the moment. I don't expect it will last long as everyone will start doing it and before you know it supply will outstretch demand and they'll £550 again. The bad news for you is that a good condition with lumps and bumps 'ray will achieve the same price as a mint one.
Hi, thanks, I agree! As the price on a new has gone sky high, mine would be a bargain considering how good it plays/looks and feels. I might give it some thought....it could help towards a fretless or 5'er. I just really like them both though.
If you go around deleting conflicting opinions from threads relating to your product, or dismissing any discussion relating to said product with the "I'm an engineer, so your opinion is invalid" card, it leaves a bad impression (particularly when experienced bass players are the ones contributing to the discussion). Simple as that really. I can't knock his products, as I haven't tried them. Some people like them, some don't. He certainly wasn't hounded out, he chose to go and divert his attention elsewhere as I recall. The way I see it, is if you're going to promote a product on an internet forum, you need to accept that your product will be discussed and picked apart. We do it for products from every other brand - I don't see why being a BC member should grant immunity from that when people will be parting with good money for the end product at the end of the day.
This is what I thought if im honest. We pick apart a lot of products on here, and unfortunately it happens with ALL products. Im sure Alex/BF will continue to sell products anyway, but honest criticism is essential on new products especially when the are always being changed. -
Dave and co, here are a couple more clips as requested. The first is the 3EQ Stingray with full bass boost, mids and treble flat played with a pick. The second is the 2EQ Stingray with bass on full and the treble on about one third. This is my perfect setup.
Cheers for this! In this clip, I have a preference to the 3EQ....it sounds HUGE. They both sound great but the 3EQ does it for me on this one.
-
Listening to the clips, I like them all! I wouldnt have a problem owning any of them, but there is definitely a difference. The 2EQ is slightly more muffled and vintage, whereas the 3 just screams aggression with a pick. This is why I wanted a 2EQ classic. How would you compare your old Ray in Natural to the new Teal?
I just looked at the Warwick site and there is no mention of the Corvette Standard in the current list or discontinued??! What the hell is going on? I'll have to have a nose around the Warwick forum later. You could try selling it on the Warwick.de Forum actually.
The Corvette Standard isnt being made Germany anymore. Shocking! I think its a bad move.

I have 2 3EQ Stingrays. One of them is ten years old, and Ive had them both from new. As they were classed as high end for me back when I was 18/19, Ive barely used them live, and they have been looked after like an expensive sports car! At the time, when I was buying, the stores never had the 2EQ versions....and all the internet advice was to 'go for the 3EQ as its more flexible'. I would like to have one 2EQ, but Id lose a lot of cash trying to swap for one. I wont be able to get one 2nd hand thats in the same condition as mine....id have to get one thats virtually new. So, im sticking with what Ive got. What I notice is the finish first and foremost. Despite Fender now having a better QC, the EB finish is IMO a touch better. It seems very very solid, and has that brilliant high gloss shine. My favourite? The natural with maple. The wood used is brilliant, and matches the shade of maple very closely. I now make sure I play them at home and wipe the chrome down to make sure it still shines. Sad I know. The natural is never getting sold, as it sentimental and my very first 'proper' bass guitar near the £1k mark. No one I knew at my age (18/19) had a brand new Ray as nice as mine so its going to be kept. The black? The finish is awesome. It is such a deep black, and the rosewood board is dark and well finished. If im honest, I couldnt sell it. Its again been looked after really well, barely gigged, and looked after at home. Again, sad I know hahah. A Ray cuts through the mix like crazy. Once the black Rays strings die, im going to change them for the EB Flats ive got waiting for it. A Stingray with flat sounds awesome. Im a sucker for brunettes, but the blonde does it on this one!

The Fender stock strings are pretty good actually but in a few weeks im going to put a new set of TI Flats on this bass. Which is the best way to put these on? Through-body? Bridge? The stock strings are, as usual, quite a a high gauge but the action is pretty damn lovely and low. Id ideally like to keep it as it is setup wise....excuse the noob question but can I just fit these and carry on as normal? Ive never fitted flats. Im just being careful!
Not a great deal of difference to my ears with those settings tbh Perhaps someone can explain something to me? I've always fancied a Musicman and indeed had a Sterling for a while, attracted by the smaller body size. The Sterling was a nice enough bass but I couldn't really get on with the sound and the neck was not quite right for me (thru very playable) I should explain that I started with Fender P basses and then graduated to various actives before settling on Warwick Streamers. I have been after a more traditional looking bass for a potential project that sounds a bit different, but of course not too different! The Sterling sounded a bit thin to me - would I have been better going for a Stingray and if so which one?
Stingray all the way. IMO, easier to 'play' than Fender Ps....I swap between the two and the Stingray neck is slightly easier, (even though the P always feels good). The pickup on the Stingray sits in a perfect place for fingerstyle...and the bass tends to play itself. They definitely do not sound thin. After researching, I think the Sterling is a tiny bit more 'modern' sounding. I think with the pickups, the single h or h + s are my preferred option. Id never use a H at the neck, although a lot of people love the HH setup.
hey thanks for that, really kind offer - but i think referencing Jerry B's reply I think I should start with a lined fretless - i'm sure it's going to be a huge leap in my abilities so will need as much help as poss!!! cheers re. the Warwicks dmz, I'll have a look
Im on the same journey....I think the Tony Franklin Fretless is calling you Jigster! Bit above budget....but if you definitely want to have a fretless, its a very good sound and look. Its exactly the fretless im after.
