I think they must have researched into it, and I can picture what Bass Doc is saying right now....good way of testing the 'sweet' spot. The Jazz and Precision sounds are iconic.

PS Glad to see some Futurama DVDs....

Thats a cool review....and ive just been learning some Arctic Monkeys for the covers band ive joined..they have some pretty fun lines. Its a nice looking bass, and I agree with the flatwounds....it just works. Im tempted to get one of these later in the year as a backup.
The main things you need to watch out for are significant swings in temperature and humidity. This goes for whether it's being stored for a few months or just out on a stand in a room somewhere. Some basic things to avoid are leaving it anywhere near a radiator, in an attic or in a garage as all these areas have massive swings in temp and hum. I have several basses and keep them in their cases when not being played but they all get a regular airing and check over. I have the radiator in the room where I keep my basses turned down low (or off) to avoid sudden blasts of central heating. If you're not going to play it for a few months then detune by a semitone or so (but not too much). Unless it's in a temp/hum controlled environment the ambient temperature will inevitably vary a little from day to night and when the temp drops the strings will contract and put more stress on the neck - detuning a small amount just provides some leeway for this to happen.
Good advice....my bass room has no heating on...the room is warm as it is...so I dont have any kind of heating on in the room. Dont put the case or bass near any type of sunlight...it can do a fair bit of damage.

Luckily I now have a room for my gear. I take them out and play/polish them all especially if ive been neglecting any. Because they are all in proper supported hardcases, I dont worry about it. Its better than having them on a stand getting bumped. Personally, hardcase with a few hours play every now and then wont hurt. Just watch out as sometimes the chrome can get strange 'bits' collected on it...so I always wipe the chrome down. In

What do you want from your Fender clones?
Musicman20 replied to karlthebassist's topic in Bass Guitars
Never really gone for the "clones". Always wanted a Sadowsky, but they've all disappointed me bar one Metro model I played recently. In a Fender clone, I'd be looking for a combination of the classic tones of the original with some added adaptability and modern overtones. Most of them cost significantly more than the real thing, so I'd be expecting something literally twice as good. Am I being overly optimistic here? I've had a few Fenders and ended up selling them all, whether because they weren't gigged or they just didn't fit. All either Standard, American Standard or Artist series. So I'm upping the ante now and picking up a 62 RI American Vintage Precision next weekend. This particular bass is the only P that's ever made me go "Wow!" when I played it. We'll see how it fares...
Im in agreement here...the Sadowsky's I played never really did it for me. Very 'polite'....I immediately tested a 75 Reissue Jazz that was next to them, and that bass barked and growled perfectly. I found Sadowskys to be far too 'modern' for me. Lovely QC and finish though. The Metro prices now are silly. For some of them, you could buy two new American Standard Fenders (and they are much better nowadays) and still have £300 or so change. I look forward to the pics of the 62 reissue Rich. -
+1 on being the boss....if you join a band thats ongoing, obviously be friendly and compromise, but dont compromise too much. If its a covers band (and I personally have rejoined the covers scene after 8 years of originals bands) then make sure you can fit into their rehearsal regime....and most importantly make sure you enjoy it! Covers bands can be REALLY good if you get hold of some good musicians. My current drummer is a loud bugger, but he knows how to plays the drums very well indeed. The band have been playing as a covers band for years, and I feel very much like ive struck gold seen as though my first gigs with them are quite large. Definitely have an originals band as well if you have the time. Writing your own lines from scratch is, as you probably know, really satisfying. Good luck, and dont give up. I advertised in a fairly professional manner and the responses were mainly a waste of time, but you WILL strike a good band eventually. Im learning new styles all the time now. My fingerstyle is MUCH better now...Ive forced myself to play almost everything with my fingers and its worked. Only the really fast stuff in my punk band need a pick....helps it cut through as well.
Markbass 102 combo..features two 10's that have real depth and the LMll amp.. This is a great standalone combo IMV..and if you wanted to add another 8 ohm cab, you'd be able to get 500watts or thereabouts.. It is pretty light as well....
+1....you cannot go wrong.

WITHDRAWN There is no need to introduce this amp... This is merely a feeler as I might not get to use it much. Not quite sure yet. Gigged once, rehearsed with lightly. 5 months old. Not one mark, ding, issue, etc. 10/10 better than showroom condition. As per all my gear I treat it with care. Still has the Markbass signed sticker of QC on it! Never had this amp past half at 8 ohms. Fabulous warm, crisp and full tone from a small package. Specs on here: http://www.markbass.it/products.php?lingua...t=1&vedi=99 Basically an upgraded Little Mark 2. Comes with all packaging and powerlead. £480 ono plus P&P. I am based in the North East but I imagine Royal Mail or a courier will be approx £10-12 depending on insurance. Is that the Maze in Nottingham?! -
Jeez man! Are you ever satisfied?!? You've got more gear than most music stores!!
I know. I'm hard work. It's the fault if the bass amp Market. There are so many good amps and cabs out now compared to 10 years ago I have trouble with not looking into all of them! It's ok, I have realised I don't need to even try this gear...as much as I'd like to. If I do, i'd have nowhere to put it. I have sold some cabs though, I realised they were too good to be unused. If I do ever get more gear, it will be small and light.

Are the features of the f500 worth the extra money? Just looking around at the F1 prices at the moment, as I have a serious amp addiction. It seems the extra features on the F500 are £150 extra... What is a reasonable price for the F1 new?
-
I'm guessing it might be popularity and changes with finish. I've seen a lot of prices rising recently on gear. It's getting ridiculous with some of it. I still think the rs210 is a good buy for £450.
-
I just read about this...it's the shortest signal path for their amp design...when they used to hand wire them all back in the early days. Sound quality of eq I do believe. I hate how much gas I get for amps and cabs!!!
-
Thanks! Interesting to know. There was a point where I nearly went 'all GK' with a rig...before I go into the Markbass amps. I still do think they look very interesting....I like the bi-amp feature etc etc. The main attraction at the moment is their 39lb 2x12 Neo 4 ohm 500W combos....
-
Yep I've just noticed this... Even the cabs have gone up £60+ each. I paid a lot less with the brand new finish.
-
Oh, so I'm guessing they are very capable of a more vintage warm tone as well as their very crisp aggressive tone. I was curious...then I read some posts my tom bowlus on talkbass who said the new neo 212-ii and 112 cabinets are fantastic...
-
Just thought I'd ask for opinions on these amps n cabs. Purely because the other day I heard a Stingray through one of these setups and it was awesome. The GK1001 RB-II seems to be ridiculously loud and punchy and such a decent price!!! I was looking into their neo 212s and they seem to be getting a lot of praise. Hmm...
Are we thinking of the same Stranglers? Deep fat bass and JJ Burnel don't usually appear in the same sentence!!
Actually, I agree....isnt JJ renowned for quite a cutting bass sound (p) with grit?!
-
Can the F1 produce classic old-school rock tones? Stuff like the Stranglers, real deep fat bass
I imagine it can, but a more warm tone seems to point towards the Little Mark 2/3.
When you do you will be pleased, I tell you. Try a nice double H one, 5 different sounds on a blade switch, inside coils, outside coils, both humbuckers and in / out series, pukka!
I was thinking either a Ray 5 H or a Ray 5 HS....leaning towards the HS as the new Ray 5 H's do not have single coil at the bridge option anymore. I know ill like it....its just whether I take the plunge hahah.

Having a good test of the RS210 and RS212 cabinets. Seriously good tone and the prices are very reasonable. I am actually pretty much shocked ow good they sound. The RS212 can move serious air.
