Best online courier for shipping basses
Musicman20 replied to Musicman20's topic in General Discussion
Thanks guys! -
Converge use an Orange AD200b Mk3 amp, with an Ampeg 810. The bass is normally an American Precision....but Ive seen him with Stingrays. Architects use Orange cabs and Orange amps/Ampeg amps. The key is tubes or tube simulation (like Sansamp) If you ask me....Precision + Orange is perfect for hardcore. If ou cant stretch to that....Precision and a Sansamp with a Markbass amp, (just because they take the pedal well and are light )

Hi I use TIs, and they are great! But, what are your recommendations for a 5 string bass? I have seen these: http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/15...5_string_43_118

Fitting TI Flats to an 09 USA Precision
Musicman20 replied to Musicman20's topic in Accessories and Misc
I have TIs on both of my Precisions. I have both sets of TI Jazz flats strung body-through. No problems thus far. If you are going with the TIs, I'd say load them through the bridge if you are going to use the JF344 set. If they go through the body, there will be a little of the silk winding coming past the nut over the fretboard. This can be remedied by removing the silk with a razor blade very carefully. You can use the TI J364 set, they are made to be used with 36 inch scale basses. The body-through Precisions are the equivilent of about 35 inches, leaving you a lot string to have to wrap around the post, even with trimming. I would definitely go with the 344 set and just trim the silk.
Thanks! Very helpful. -
Bassist wanted for massive heavy riffing in Newcastle area
If it works as a sweetener, I can throw in the offer of bringing my Barefaced Vintage along so you can hear it in action. And my SUB, in case you don't have a bass sitting around tuned to drop-C.
Id quite like to test that out!!!! If you need someone after these two gents have been ill try and fit it in I dont want to steal a place though...and ive currently got two other bands so the other chaps might be more suitable. Be good to get a NE bass bash soon...and ill happily come to all of your gigs! -
when i get them in, i'll do a 2 pager, a real in depth thing for everyone. 21 frets...winner.
Awesome ....be very interested to hear your thoughts!

Its an EB bass...therefore it will be uber powerful and very very well made. I still think the shape is cool in an odd way....but thats good. Who gives a s*** if people think its odd...if you like the look, test one out Clearly EB and BMW went out of their way to make a very unique bass....and they have!

I think ill be leaving it at least 6 months to see what the reviews are like and try a few out.
4
That's fair enough...does seem heavy for a £1300 deluxe model. The old one I had a few years back weighed a lot for me...I was hoping they'd sort that out!
Just got back from trying out one of these new 2010 American Jazz Deluxes with the intention to buy. Hmmmmm! I thought the word Deluxe meant top of the range, hardly weighing in at a heavy 10lb. You would have thought they would have specially selected bodies represnting nice grain & light weights. Obviously other Deluxes will vary slightly weight wise but 10lbs sure aint Deluxe to me. Both my 96 Custom Shop American Deluxe Jazz & 02 FMT Jazz weigh in at 8.5lbs each, what I'd expect from a top end bass. The active / passive switch is a nice touch although it was the new N3 pups & new eq that I was primarily interested in seeing what difference or improvements there were compared to the SCN & Noisless set ups of its Deluxe predicessors. Overlooking the terrible (NONE) set up, to my ear I thought there was very little difference to notice if any. I'd have to realy test it out alongside my other jazzes to realy see if there were any real difference but on that all important first play opinion, I'll not be handing over my hard earned wedge just yet, not even if it was 8.5lbs. I was hoping for some real noticably differences in tonal ability. It will be interesting to hear from others who currently have the pre 2010 Deluxe basses & try a new one out.
Interesting! Thanks for letting us know....I sure need to test before I go ahead. 10lbs to me seems pretty normal for a full sized 5 string...was it a 4 or 5?
cheers mate thnx i didnt know the finish thing. Just tell me something what you think of getting a markbass 12 inches ny121 on the bottom it will work out? on top rs210 and on the bottom my markbass ny121?
Hmm....might be ok...probbaly better with a matching RS112 which are quite good prices also. Its neo and ceramic mixed....not sure what results this would yield. If you did try it and pref the TC cab the NY121 is a great cabinet anyway so would sell well if you felt the need to.

£370 is about right for an RS210....they might be the older finish cabinets...but you can request the new finish. Im pretty sure the latest ones, and the older ones, are all 400W capability for the cabinet. If thats what you meant lol.
As a reminder would also be prepared to do a trade/part-ex (depending on value of other instrument) Not likely to get the Fender Pino I really want (Legion, look into my eyes, not around the eyes ....!) but have recently been attracted to Wals, so if anyone wants to do some kind of Wal trade please contact me. Must be a 4-string, preferably a flat colour (eg, black or red) or, if wood, not highly figured (ie, not Wenge or spalted)
Clarky with a Wal! Actually, I can see that working well One thing I thought of, and im just thinking out loud so apologies, but did I see you mentioned you havent tried a Stingray before? I think you should definitely have a tinker with one...to me they just fit with the classic Leo trio. I went to see 3 great bands last night, one with a Precision and one with a Stingray. It was apparent that the Precision filled the low end amazingly well and just worked. The Stingray just cut through like crazy almost sounding like the bass was a lead instrument but when he hit the lower notes it filled the room like a bass should. Good luck with the sale dude
Oh, hell aye. The Walkabout is unique with those big, pillowy notes (which is why I'll never sell mine) but so far I'd say the TC is also warm and fat, but quicker and clearer. That said, I haven't ventured into the realms of the TubeTone yet. I think I'll probably only need it it fatten things up a very low volume, or when recording. There's certainly nothing processed-sounding about it...
I completely agree. I expected a more processed sound but it was the opposite. After trying the Shuttle 9.0 before hand, this amp was exactly what I was after. Mine has an issue with the power socket in the back which is causing other problems (the cord just almost falls out which is a bit worrying) but TC is has been very good with the warranty and they are sending a new unit. Other than that, which I presume is just my bad luck, the amp is spot on. I cant really use mine until the new one arrives so Im without it for a bit, but this has just proved to me that TC are one of those companies its safe to buy from and be looked after.
I have the IP112ER and EX112ER. They're great.
Whoops I didnt even mention the IPs. If I had the money I would opt for an IP and pre...but I think its going to be passive cabs. How are you finding the EX112ER?
