SOLD! - JAZZ BASS : Pat Wilkins : Hand-Built USA Fender Killer

Well, my friends band played up in Newcastle centre and their bassist has the same Orange as me. He was playing through the main bands Trace cabs (4x10 and 1x15, they looked like the modern versions). What can I say? It sounded massive....absolutely huge...and yep, they did not mic it up. The main band played a modern Trace amp head...think 600W version? It did not even compare...and thats from someone who really likes Trace gear. Lots of variables to consider....but the Orange was just pure doom...I loved it.
Personally, I think the 12's are spot on. Fantastic all round sound. I'm going to give the SWR a workout at rehearsals tonight as I've only ever used them in anger with my Markbass LMK.
Personally I prefered the combo you have there (I tested the ERs) over the AE112s. The bass was MASSIVE through them...plus they looked like they were more rugged. The AE112 was great, but the inbuilt slightly aggressive tone was an odd one. Sounded good, but I could tell the HT/EX was ceramic straight away. Literally thunderous low end. There was a chap on talkbass who said the micros (sub 500-600w) were underpowering the HT112ER/EX which seemed odd to me...Ive not hear anyone else complain about this. I still crave a pair of Berg 12s.
My GAS is for a Canon 550D and to pay off some of the past two years GAS. The first is achievable, the second is living in dream land ;-)
Dave, my girlfriend is currently going mad about that camera. We are looking for the best deals on it. She had a hit in her car from some idiot who drove off but the MIB have paid her for the damage and all the stress/messing about. I think shes getting it soon....but she has to sell her older model first.
Good spot that man! I hadn't even noticed that it was the Classic and NOT the RH.
Haha....I kinda thought 'woah, thats really cheap....why the price reduction'...then I realised it was the Classic. I then had a sigh of relief. I do think either late 2010 or early 2011 will bring a new TC amp though.
-
I just googled the TC amp, and I think its the Classic 450 thats the prices listed above. Thats still a good amp, but for me, the features are what sells the amp so well, so RH450 all the way. I have still seen great RH450 bundle prices though. Slightly off topic, but long time cab addict KJung on Talkbass, who I often ask advice from, has compared the RH450 with two different cabinets. Firstly the RS210, and then the Bergantino AE410. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.p...9357&page=4 http://www.icompositions.com/music/song.php?sid=134299 He has compensated slightly for volume difference. I was actually shocked. I half expected the AE410 to blow the RS210 away....and it didnt. Its just a soundclip, so obviously nothing scientific, but the RS sound is definitely one like.

I asked TC about updated products, and the Staccato was just being released....with the new small RS112 being the latest and the various combos. I also asked 'any chance of a higher wattage version?' I got the response which was roughly this: 'Whilst we cannot comment on future developments, this has been asked a few times. However, at the moment I would suggest you test the RH450 because of the APM feature. It really is much louder than you probably think...we rated it conservatively'. I do think they may release a higher wattage one, but I think now is too soon. Its still quite a new amp and its just getting to the point where its quite popular. There are some great deals on the amp/footswitch/bag....I paid a little more myself 2 months ago, but, mine was a sealed product which I requested. It comes and goes I guess, Ive managed to obtain other items pretty damn cheap so swings and roundabouts. My RS210s should be here soon and I think the price I paid for them is fantastic

Great Gramma arrived yesterday. Im quite impressed just by looking at it, especially for £65! Ok its wood and foam, but its well constructed and looks very strong. Its also very light and not as large as I imagined, which is a good thing. Just big enough for large bass rigs...small enough to carry around. Well placed handle as well. Thanks for arranging the group buy! Rich at Music Matters seems like a top chap to deal with. He responded with emails very quickly and efficiently.
http://www.google.co.uk
I just dont want to mess the whole thing up...eg the iMac...with any suspect programs. Its not my computer. I am very much a newb when it comes to recording onto a computer.

If he is into the whole dirty rock n roll tone, try an Orange Tiny or Dual Terror. Perfect for that kind of tone....plus has some more gain if you want it heavier.

Hi I have a TC Elec RH450 that has a lot of great outputs. I may also use my LM3 as well. I doubt I will use the Orange as really that needs a quality mic to get the full on awesome tone it produces. The simpler the better for me, as its just for noodling and posting to band mates so we can practice our stuff at home. Basically, I want something that allows me to plug the RH450 into the iMac, then I need a decent but easy to use program to play along with some drum loops. I just want to be able to either add basslines over some drumloops I've created or over part songs my guitarist has created. Any ideas? Are there any free programs around? What lead do I need from RH450 - iMac? Thanks Gareth

Off topic slightly, I used an Ashdown 4x10 at a practice room recently that was supplied. I was actually quite impressed....no wooliness. It could have been the amp and bass I brought with me, but it did the job. I am still unsure on Ashdown though...I would be interested to a least test their new line.

The side gap is a port....eg like the Orange OBC115 or the Genz Benz Neox 212 (two side ports).

I think I have had bad luck with Electro. Back 15 years back or so, I bought a lot of gear from there. They knew I did, and I continued to. This was before the internet prices kicked in and everyone shopped online most the time. I often found the items looked a little uncared for...which was a shame. Had the worst Fender experience with them EVER....BUT I will add as I pushed on they allowed me to exchange it for a Stingray which was new in (in my sig). I wasnt happy that they didnt offer to pick it up and realise it was quite bad for them to send it out in the condition it was in. Thank god the 08/09/10 Fenders improved, (not saying that all the ones before were bad, but you know what I mean). Over the past few years bought a fair few other bits totally over £1k, then I gave up. Why? I went in to have a test on Markbass, to see if I liked the sound. I think they assumed I was about 17 and skint, but I actually had £900 and was 26 with a well paid job. They said: 'Are you actually going to buy one or not? We are shutting in 20mins I dont want to mess about'. I said 'I wont be buying unless I like it, hence I need to test it for 5 mins'. I tested it, liked it, then left. Rude and patronising springs to mind, especially after Ive spent around £3.5k with them over the years. I very much doubt I will spend serious money with them now. Customer service is easy, Ive done it before in some past jobs. I also find their recent 'best' prices to be a lot more than most shops are selling for. I also agree with Linus; Music Ground (Doncaster) seem odd. Tried to sell me a beat up Fender Deville guitar amp for a massively inflated price...despite the fact the price of them new wasnt much more. I explained I wanted excellent condition but they tried to get me to buy. I didnt. Few months later I went to the Bass Merchant chaps and had a proper test/cup of tea/natter in a fun and relaxed environment and bought a load of gear from them and continue to.

Wood and Tronics Minibash: Bass Direct, Sun 18/4/10
Musicman20 replied to OldGit's topic in General Discussion
Ah yes, I can see your point. But, the type of bands and venues I have to play would not warrant a bass worth that much money...I dont even like using instruments between the 850-1250 region. Things might change if I actually find a band thats worth having one great bass, but thats no doubt a long time away. It would also be nice to be paid for playing once in a while, which would make me feel less guilty for spending so much. -
It's definitely the pickup and eq, hence why they don't sell them separate. A ray sounds unique

I do like the wt designs but the prices are way out if my league for the time being. -
Looks OK from the photo's. Have you played it, if it feels/sounds good then get it. Many 70's Musicman basses are heavy which is a no no for me. I picked up my Stingray in '79 and it weighs in a tad over 8.5lbs, which is light for a Stingray. Had from new and still love it:
WOW....

I LOVE white basses. Its not that bad a job, but I cant understand your frustration. Hmm...what about a Classic Series Stingray? Ok, its not vintage, but its getting there! Cheers
As far as I can tell, the 'Flat' setting on Rocco's sig head is meant to be his personal settings - probably more akin to the type of sound he is used too. Thus I suspect its a bit like having a RH450 with a preshape built in..err..sort of... Given that the EQ centres are all adjustable - I wonder what the benefit is?
This is basically it. But, those craving HUGE low end and quite a high treble extension would love it. They have apparently changed all the preset centres and the tubetone/compressor. If you like Rocco, and you like fingerfunk a lot, then maybe its the head for you. Me? I prefer just the standard...you can basically ALMOST dial in the Rocco sound anyway....at a gig probably no difference. Nice bit of kit none the less. Talkbass threads have a lot of info on this.
