Ampeg SVP-Pro & SWR Marcus Miller Pre-amps

The Aguilar Tone Hammer is FANTASTIC! Not only is it a dirt pedal and DI, but it also acts as an outboard eq so you can active your passive instruments so to speak, (should you wish). Definitely give one a try if you can. Great mid control. Most the punk/metal/hardcore bands ive asked or toured with used the Sansamp BDDI or Tone Hammer.

I think its about 300W at 8 ohms, and 450W a 4 ohms. Ive no idea what happens with 3 TC cabinets. I assume its just very loud!
Thanks Musicman, you are being very helpfull, thats almost the last tick I needed One more if you'd be so kind, do you think 2x210 TCs connected to this amp will be enough without PA support in pubs (inc gardens), small clubs and halls? I doubt you will say its not loud enough, but volume without punch is what I hate (I know not very technical), but its something I notice, even if what I just said does'nt exist scientifically! so hope you know what I mean
I personally have gone for the RS210 x 2....Ive got bigger Aguilar cabs if I do bigger gigs than that, but if im honest I checked with a few owners and they all seemed to say the RS210 hits the sweet spot, and the two together is extremely good! I think the vertical stacking also helps. Take into account you can always add to it...eg buy an RS212 down the line and the amp will power all three cabs (placed horizontally in this case). I personally am quite tempted to get an RS212 instead of one of the RS210s......maybe someone can chime in and help? Im replacing a 4x10 so im still going for the 2x10s x 2 for the moment.

I must admit, the Corvette $$ was on my list to try out as a 5 stringer...the prices dont seem that bad on them, and they seem to be quite well reviewed.

I read a lot of the information on tbass before I purchased it. Basically, the 450 rating is VERY conservative. It also has active power management, which TC states will basically mean the amp reacts more like a proper tube amp and not 'clip' like a solid state will (prob will do at a point though)....it will just keep pushing. Most the tbass guys have LM3s/F1s and they have stated the RH450 is louder, no doubt about it. I know watts dont mean a lot, but there was a general consensus that the 450 watts from TC was equal to about 700 Mark Bass watts or 800 Genz watts. Thats just from them though. I must admit, before this I have a Shuttle 9.0 for a bit, and the TC definitely seems to sound massive compared to it. The lows are also really really nice...no lack of low end or sheer girth of bass. You wont have any volume issues. I think TC are the first micro company to be a little more honest with wattage ratings. Compared to the LM2/3 you should have more power according to the other users. Basically, its the first micro IMO thats set up for rock/metal/punk etc out of the box, but it also does clean and modern at the same time, (like the Mark Bass). Its got the punch you need in a loud rock setting. It can sound very 'Ampeg-ish' if you want it to, which is good for such a small amp!

Best time to announce leaving a band...
Musicman20 replied to Stylon Pilson's topic in General Discussion
I have my last gig with my old band on Saturday before I move. Its going to be interesting, as they have a new bassist who is actually just a rhythm guitarist, so time for me to show my chops as he is doing half the set and im doing the later half. I would email or call and explain, or say that youve put it all in an email, (reasons etc). I had an excuse, moving away. The band was getting so slack though...bit disappointing really. Now im bored though as im in transition period of finding another good band. -
So, Ive been a P player for most of my life. Recently tried a few Lakland DJ5s but they went back....not happy with certain bits, but the necks were great. Ive also been playing Stingrays for quite a while. Again, the necks feel great. I intend to play my Jazz a lot more now. Just picked it up out of the case for a few mins tonight, and Im shocked at how small and quick the necks are. I know they are smaller anyway, but for some reason it was really noticeable tonight! I have smallish hands, yet P necks feel normal to me. I thin almost any neck can be comfortable as long as its setuo correctly. The Jazz necks really are fantastic.
So, popped over to Voxpop's house near Reading and I might have come home with a 2009 Jazz Standard 5 string Shocking photos I know, I'll get some decent ones soon with it's siblings (I kinda have triplets now). It's a real beauty, these '09 Fenders have got great build quality, will be gigging it on saturday & sunday, so am looking forward to it. Si
Good choice, I was looking at this, but I think im going to go for another 4 and leave the 5's to a new Classic Series Ray. The new Fenders are great
I have the complete Orange rig, and in my opinion it owns the ampeg. The eq isn't the most versatile especially with the mids but sounds great none the less! It's also nothing a graphic eq pedal can't solve if you need for sculpting of your tone. Just thought i'd mention that Cancer Bats do you the orange head over here in the UK but Jay runs his own preamp before it.. think it was called a morris?... which is pretty much accounts for his full on distorted tone and keeps the orange head relatively clean.
+1....good choice Yep, even Cancer Bats have come away from Ampeg and gone Orange.
After opening up the Duck Dunn again tonight I now realise i have a Lakland pup and not a Fralin in it. so, while i could get a Fralin im going to get a Fender Original/Vintage P-Bass Pickup for £69. This is pretty close to the Fralin and a lot cheaper. If it works then all well and good, if not im sure i can sell it here. Cheers for all the advice and help.
I read your post on tbass about this,. I must admit, the new flat pole piece P pups in the new American Standards are awesome...IMO.
Went to Guitar Guitar today in Newcastle (which i may add had very friendly and helpful staff) to check out what stock they had in...Spotted a Sadowsky UV70, Black, Maple board 5...Plugged into a Phil Jones amp..first thoughts were what a fxxxxx tone! The slap/pop tone was the best ive ever heard to be fair.....couldnt help thinking the B was a little floppy though, i guess considering its scale this may be forgiven..But its a Sadowsky!!?? My old S5 was sooo much better...Anyone else played one...what did you think of the B string on these babies.. Ive got to say i would forgive this and buy one as i love the look the tone and 70's body size....but at over £2000.00 i would think very carefully.. i wish i still had my RV5!!!!
I tried most of the Sadowsky's in there a few months back. I just couldnt get a tone I was happy with....as soon as I picked up the 75 Reissue Fender Jazz, I was happy. IMO, they are a little overpriced, but they look fantastic and the quality is superb.
I'd risk it.
+1
as for the Saturdays gig, that would be amazing. I'd hop for that to be a mimed gig as i'd surely fudge up watching Frankie's bottom wiggle around the stage. Gaga is sexy, but she isn't that good looking... Hmm, music, anyone?
Agreed, she is certainly attractive but not in a stunning pretty way, just hot. Anyways, back on topic, I'd love to play any massive gig like this, no matter who it is!
Dave, in my experience a Wizard Stealth is quite similar to a SD Quarter Pounder, ie, tons of beef. It won't get you the growl on higher notes particularly, just more oomph. Sounds to me like a less drastic (and cheaper) option would be to buy a good preamp pedal such as Tone Hammer or Sansamp or Sadowsky
+1, as we discussed through PM Dave, a good grit pedal/DI will add a massive amount of beef and growl. I reckon get down to the Gallery and test the Tech 21 Sansamp vs Aguilar Tone Hammer. Two very different beasts.
There aren't many mainstream manufacturers that aren't overpriced if you ask me, but Warwick really do take the p**s. Don't get me wrong, I've owned one or two nice Warwicks, including an absolutely lush black SSI, but would I pay like £2500 for one? Not in a month of sundays.......
+1....Ive played some nice Warwicks, but the price is daft. Im going to get a right caining for this, but I wanted to like the Warwick style, and I recently tried a few out. I just CANNOT get over the bodyshapes. Im too predictable, and im very vain...as in if its not a vintage style instrument I instantly think im in an awful tacky metal band. Thats not slating metal either, as I like a lot of metal, just not the whole 'pointy small guitar/bass' image that goes with it. Whats wrong with playing a cool retro sonic blue Jazz in a metal band? Nothing. LOL. I like that Rob from Metallica picked up a Ray 5 on his auditions.
-
Hmm....Id love a proper vintage Ray. But, im a bit wary of vintage instruments, unless Im buying it off the original owner (which is very rare). So, Ive decided to steer clear. Its weird, I have this view that a bass upto £1.5k is just about right for me. But, I would pay a little more for a special bass. If it was over £3k, handbuilt, I just wouldnt bother until I get on a better wage. Id rather have 4-8 awesome new basses than 2 vintage ones....but thats me at the moment. What I DO like is the new Classic Series Rays...thats the one bass I want in 2010. Probably more though hahahah.....

The new Skyline 5 string P looks nice, but Im not sure how it will compare to the new Fender P5....ive heard nothing but good reports on the P5. Im guessing the Lakland 5 string P's are 35"?
-
I find strings make a huge difference to every P ive owned, despite the fact the basses themselves are quite basic. Try out some DR High Beams/Fat Beams....the stainless steel will definitely give you that P bass growl that I love. Have the tone right up, play with a pick In fact, even cheaper strings like Rotos will do it no problems.
