1. IMO, they are both excellent. Passive jazz just sounds fantastic, n bridge pickup on it's own is brilliant. The Stingray just sounds like nothing else....massive in your face tone, middy, aggressive, cuts through like a knife. But, stick flats in it, roll back the treble n it's more controlled. I will say this, the new Jazzes are great if you find a good one, very nice instruments. Rays new are expensive, and I'm shocked at the second hand prices. They are coming back into 'fashion', so I'd expect prices to rise for 2nd hand.
2.
look forward to them, thanks for taking the time and trouble. Other than the SR4 i think the other basses would all sound pretty similar in a band situation so i think for me it would come down to feel and playability. How does the Warwick neck feel compared to the Fender?
I sense Warwick GAS!
3. Hmmm, have you never been 100% with the tone of the Ray? I have my EQ on the Ray flat, sometimes with a slight treb/bass boost, but they both punch like crazy. Seriously aggressive tone which is the main reason, (and the oval plate) why I wanted one about 12 years ago. Is the ESP active? I'm guessing it's not. Boil the ray strings in water/washing up liquid for 5 mins, rinse thoroughly, then see if that helps?
4.
I have found that if I have a completely mint instrument (especially an expensive one like my old Shuker JJB) I am so OCD about keeping it fresh and shiny that it actually takes away some of the enjoyment of owning and playing it as I become paranoid about damage. I guess this probably goes back to the pro musician versus dabbler/hobbyist thing, to some extent, as I think of basses as things of beauty and objects to desire. If I was gigging night after night I guess the condition of my basses (and my attitude) would be rather different.
+1 on the OCD. I'm the same. First slight ding is always the worst. I'd quite like a well used vintage that I don't have to worry about. Not abused, just used but worn naturally. I think after the famous P bass swap me Clarky and Nigel did, it's obvious we all care about the instruments rather like they are a piece of art.
5. Warwick sounds more lively...nice tone but I think it comes alive more due to strings. Fender sounds different to what I expected...perhaps strings, not sure, but bridge pickup emphasis best. Stingray sounds like it has flats on...no that that's bad at all, just more muted than I'm used to. Rays to me normally just sound hugely aggressive all the time. Light touch, huge response. ESP sounds great...a hidden treasure! Thanks for making them...I like the Warwick more than I expected
6. Another topic on basses I know very little about... Can you help? Best b?!
7. Me too at that price! Very good deal.
8. Oh bloody hell now I've also discovered the Spector Euro Rebop 5 basses are virtually the same prices if not cheaper. In addition, when I mention streamer, bassist keep saying 'may as well get a Spector'. Anyone compared these? Bolt on all the way for me. I'm a bit wary of neck through.
9. I now live right near soundslive...do they have a massive warehouse somewhere as the bass stock is pretty low
10. I got one free with my LM3 I bought from the Bass Merchant!
11. If you are thinking Genz, I'd get the 6 or even 9. They aren't to my tastes, but the 9 is also very light.
12. Finally the quest is complete
13. Proof that good colour Ps/Js ALWAYS sell well Good un
14.
RH450 on its way! Not sure what cabs to purchase for it yet ...... to much choice and makes out there!
Good un! Went on GuitarGuitar today, looked at their RS210 and Combo 450. The 210 was the inbetween finish, the combo the new shiny finish. They look really good in either, but the shiny version wins it for me. I'm glad I went for 210s as they are just about the right size.
15.
Im not even going to google these basses your all talking about. I just cant afford to lol. Good luck Gareth.
The natural one near the bottom of this page plus s low b is what im after! http://forum.warwick.de/10-warwick-basses/...er-club-23.html But I have to test before I shell out, so I'm just going to mull it over for a few months. It's a fair whack to spend if I don't like the neck etc. Other things to pay off first, then I'm going to start testing them 2010 = expensive.
16. One amp you need to test is the TC RH450. It can do modern and clean but also Ampeg grunt
17. Thanks for all the advice. So far only found one useful YouTube video and I cannot find a shop in Newcastle to even just go and look at them in the flesh before buying. Streamer $$ 5 with natural/honey oil + chrome seems the way forward so far.
18. Sounds great! Sometimes we have to throw out the rulebooks and just try something out of the blue...ive heard good things about those amp heads!
19. Cheers guys, streamer seems to be the bodyshape for me, and apparently it's a maple neck which is more like what I'm used to. I've been given some great prices from the bass merchant and I must say for the price I'm impressed! Now it's whether I take the plunge...I wasn't impressed with the Lakkie 5s quality control...so maybe Warwick will give me a TOTALLY different bass with a good low b.
20. I have a little bit of a soft spot for trying some 5 string warwicks. I like the idea of the hard finish, the nasally tone, and something totally different. I'm not sure if I'll get one, but it might be the 5er for me. Ok.. I spot two that appeal shape wise. Corvette $$ OR Streamer $$. I would be going for a natural or light oil finish, nothing metal looking! Chrome hardware I think. Didn't the Streamer win an award for how good it is with a bass magazine? Requirements: Not too heavy No neck dive Plenty of eq options Tradional as possible What are the differences between the two above basses? I am a Warwick newb!
21. 2009 = GAS hit me bad! I love playing, but it's took a backseat whilst I've been moving. Once I'm playing again the GAS will drop a little.
22. Pointless on a P bass and if I'm honest i would never use one on a Jazz anyway.
23. What is the tone like from your new bass?! I'm intrigued how it compares to the Jazz.
24. My option for 'easy to carry' 4x10 is the two TC Elec RS210s. Roughly 46lbs each, small and slim. Together = huge sound! Price = roughly 740 and you have the option of modularity Great HF and that ceramic thump.
25. That is incredibly cheap! This will go quick. The Orange 115 is a really good cab and gets great reviews.
