1. Unfortunately ive never tried this amp, although there is one for sale second hand in the for sale section! Aguilar make, IMO, some of the best cabinets out there. Their amps got rave reviews on talkbass and on here, so I need to try one at some point. If their amps are like their cabinets, they must be great Great demo here on a setup thats actually for sale in the for sale section (I think its the same amp!) 2.
You just love buying gear don't you You have already found your nirvana but that's such a nuisance because you don't have the excitement of searching for a new bass. What do you want from a new bass that you don't have already?
Hi Nig! Hmm, Nitro finish, possible custom paint job, amazing attention to detail on the small fine parts of the bass, (dont get me wrong the Fenders I have are top notch, but I mean the really small detail) official covers on the bridge/pickup, official thumb rest, American Reissue pickup wound to be as close to 'modern and punchy meets vintage motown thump'... To be honest, not a lot of massive differences, and only thing you would get if you spend more money (like a custom Fender paint job in Nitro). Ill think on!
3. This combo seems to tick MANY boxes. As I am an idiot I dont associate Ibanez with good quality bass amps, but this might change everything. I notice the Bass Merchant are now stocking these, and will no doubt do a great price if you enquire. Even im tempted!
4. Wow...just as I was looking for a 51 P!
5.
If someone would buy my fretless '76 Precision, I would buy this and move on my Nash (much though I love the Nash, your Jazz is even nicer and prettier still). Unfortunately the first part of this chain ain't happening
The NASH is for sale?!
6. Jim if I were in London and didnt have to pay shipping id love these.
7.
Keep the cabs and get a car. All this schepping around without your own transport is nuts. I wouldn't compromise a cab just for size if it didn't do the job I wanted it to.
I must say I agree. Size and weight are factors, but tone and volume are more important. A single 12 will only go so far....ok for rehearsing and acoustic, but a 2x10 is the smallest Id go for small gigs. 2x12 is the optimum (or 1x12 x 2). Those MB 2x10s are very light.
8.
I was also going to suggest trying out the P-Retro, you have nothing to lose since it works in passive mode too and doesn't require any soldering to fit. Definitely whack those TI flats on. I prefer Pyramid Gold or LaBella flats for old school thump but the TIs are a good compromise between those and rounds. They also sound great played with a pick.
I didnt realise the P Retro need no soldering....interesting. Agreed on the Flats. I have some EB Group IIIs as well but I think they are going on the incoming Ray 4.
Unless you've have rampant GAS and a need to buy every weird design of bass going like me then the only real reason is to improve on what you already have. It sounds like your current bass is pretty much what you want, so what you need to is make a list of the things that you are not quite happy about with your current bass. Not things you think you might like but things you KNOW would improve the looks, feel, and sound. I'd be interested to know exactly what improvements you think your current bass NEEDS.
Good idea....to be honest, I think I can think of many things Id change other than have that Fender 'custom shop' magic....
9.
Gareth, as you know I've owned one or two P basses since getting sucked into the world of BC. Beedsters Kylie, a lovely '74, a very good Jap 70's RI, the TF fretless, a Sadowsky Metro and now the Sadowsky NYC. Hands down my Pino is my favourite by a long shot - yes they are all P basses, and yes some of it is in my head, but its the fattest, warmest most comfortable to play and played with a pick it has a massive presence. Totally my go-to bass. None of the others I've owned have lasted as well. If the house was on fire and I had time to grab one bass - it would be the Pino. I reckon what you have is already great, so you can either try changing pickups to adjust the tone or settle on knowing that you won't be happy until you get a Custom Shop... I have a suspicion that the latter is what you want to hear
Thanks for the input. I think you are spot on, and thats probably what I was aiming for. I wanted to hear it, but my bank balance didnt! It will take a long time to get to a stage to be able to afford one, and id have to do some serious shifting around, but that Pino looks stunning. Great to hear a hands on comparison as well, as it puts things in perspective. Ill leave my Ps as they are, and just get the TI's on one of them. Then in a year or so Ill look into a Custom Shop.
10. I know the Bass Merchant have a Streamer 5 $$ on offer at the moment.....if thats one youd consider. I personally cannot get around the first fret stretch on Warwicks, but thats just me.
11. Ive seen and lifted a Markbass NY122 (4 ohm) and they are super light/compact. If I didnt have the TC cabs (which are the same size or smaller) I would have a NY122 right now.
12.
And the Multitasking Award has to go to the guy playing with Lissie on the Beeb set on Saturday night - nice throbby Fender Musicmaster Bass, hi-hat with his left foot, and kick-drum with his right.
I caught this, and I thought his bass tone was awesome!
13. Rob's a really good player, and probably far too good for Metallica's poor 'low in the mix' bass that theyve had for the past decade. That guy can play INCREDIBLY well. I think it was a great thing for him to do. No doubt he is ultra careful with the BOD, and I imagine he only uses it on certain tracks. If I were him, Id record with it a few times at least.
14.
Promethean P5110 combo and "man bag" ordered from Thomann. Let the anxious waiting begin... Eude
That is a fantastic price.
15. Boys! You are meant to be commenting on the rig/basses not chatting the owner up
16. I didnt think the strings were narrow when I tested a Ray 5.....but a Warwick 5 Streamer $$ I tried had REALLY tight spacing. I did a lot of research on 5 strings, and everyone I asked with a Musicman 5 said it just becomes second nature after a while. I tried a few Laklands down the line (they have WIDDDEEE spacing) I think they would be an idea for you...but they are 35" and no MM pups im afraid. I say keep at it with the MM spacing, youll get used to it. Sandberg might be an idea. The problem is, nothing sounds like a MM to me, at all. No Humbucker seems the same and no pre...if you want the MM tone dead on its gonna have to be a MM...IMO. Sorry I cant help...keep at it with the Bongo! Id love a Bongo....one day.
17. Sounds great! Ill await the pics
18.
Players like Nathan Watts have been in the game long enough to realise that although good gear matters, it's whatever needs the least maintenance on the road and what sounds adequate to get along with! People with his level of credibility don't need to deal with guys on online forums claiming to be experts on drivers, whereas given half the chance all those 'speaker experts' would probably jump at the chance to be Stevie Wonder's bass player and MD.
+1.
19.
I loved it,despite the odd 'moment'. Nate appeared to be using a couple of Hartke LH amps, with Hartke Hydrive 1x15 and 4x10 cabs. He played keys on a few including Superstition (which had Stevie on keys on the original.)
I wonder whether Nate cares about the 'dont mix drivers' the speaker gurus talk about. I doubt it...probably because if it sounds good it sounds good.
20. I replied just to get info with no reply anyway!
21. I bet the have something planned....lets hope its a good 'un.
22. Pics please...very interested.
23.
Hi i've got two GS112 for sale both in excellent condition. Pics will be put on tonight! £450 for the pair!! Both have Tweeters aswell!!
Jim, do they have covers by any chance?
24. Anyone heard any thing on this yet?
25. What rig is Nate using? GW in the other thread said the bass is a Sadowsky.
