Sounds great!

If budget isnt an issue, another EBMM in fretless? I find the tone for a MM sounds great fretless. Another option, giving you jazz and p offerings plus a quality board would be the Tony Franklin Fretless.

All will sound like a Stingray, and only a player who is quite aware of Stingrays will realise the difference in the 2 vs 3 EQ. Both are great. I have sold 2 recently and regret one of them, as it had sentimental value. But, I have rectified that and ordered one in my favorite colour.
-
The 2 vs 3 band is definitely a subjective test. I did the same when I was younger, more EQ must mean better. All my favourite players use 3 band EQs. I then realised recently that I DO prefer the 3 EQ tone. I like the extra cutting mid-bite. The 2 EQ is great, but im against the old school grain on this one and prefer the 3 EQ Ray. If you want it sounding old school, just stick on some flats or use the EQ properly.

Very 'different' and Warwick is how Id describe the $$. Personally, I couldnt get along with the necks, but the construction on these basses is very very good. It sounds nothing like a MM humbucker btw, if you were expecting that. Has its own unique voicing which I think is a good thing. Eg, if you want a MM tone, get a MM. If not, dont! I also think compared to some manufacturers the prices are pretty reasonable. If you like the style/shape/neck, you will like the sound no doubt
It had a transparant gloss varnished body, I couldn't find anything like it on the website though?
It cant be a Classic then. Definitely overpriced!
Something like an Aggy db212 then
Tis one option, although plenty of others I guess to suit weight/size/budget.

What colour was the £1700 one ? One of these: http://www.music-man.com/instruments/basse...stingray-4.html ? They are £1700 ish in most stores at the moment. Most striking feature is the varnished neck.

Which bass would you still go for if you already had too many?
Musicman20 replied to 12stringbassist's topic in Bass Guitars
I now have a 5 bass limit. I rarely get to play 5 so any more is just a waste (until Im earning more). But, I definitely want a Custom Shop Fender in my life, more than a true vintage. Ill see what the next year brings. -
Another lightweight head advice thread.....
Musicman20 replied to geoffbyrne's topic in Amps and Cabs
The best overall value lightweight amp, for me, is the Markbass LM2/3. £560 ish new, prices vary secondhand Clear, warm and articulate is how I would describe MB. Great kit. -
Never tried a Stingray with 'obvious' deadspots, I would argue with this particular point. I don't think how a bass plays is contingent on whether it's a Stingray or any other brand, it's either been a good setup or not IMO. burno70, was it the LTD edition Stingray Bass with the mint green/powder blue finish? Because if it was I'll be over to Dolphin like a shot!
Ah yes....it could have been a Classic Ray at that price tag. Talk em down to £1600!
-
A standard Ray 4 brand new (eg 3 EQ/Single H/Normal Colour/Unpainted Headstock) should be no more than £1200-£1300 new. £1700 is REALLY high. Was it LTD or high spec?
Product number is 401.935.39 I guess they are doorstops.
Thanks

Luckily I got a great deal on the two Ive recently ordered and Im really excited. They are very popular, which can be a problem as people dont seem to realise quite how 'high end' a Stingray really is. I sold two, to fund other Ernie Balls, but I decided on another Ray 4 and Ray 5 HS in the end....in the colour I prefer.

LH500 plus a decent 2x12 or 4x10.
I didn't want to imply that the Aguilar is superior to the Berg. I know that there can only be a handful of people who tried an AE212 prototype. My point was to the OP, that I prefer 12" speakers over 10" speakers (AE212 vs AE410). I played different Aguilar GS112/NT/212 for a long time. Then I switched to Sadowsky/Bergantino HS410 & HS210 follwing the hype with the SA200 tube amp. That did not work for me at all. So I am back to Aguilar 12" (db112 & db212, this time). I am glad I came back to 12"
As you know, my experience was similar to this. It's a pain because in the end you come back to what you originally had, or at least similar.

This 'magical' formula seems all well and good, but as always from now on I'll reserve judgement until I hear it myself. The whole 1x12 x 2, or 2x12 is so close it's barely worth worrying about. The 2x12 might be a little bigger, but I'd suggest testing before making any decisions. It seems 2-3 people have heard it in the USA yet I hear people almost reviewing the cabinet blind. Berg make great gear, that is a well known fact, but sone players will always prefer other brands that may or may not be superior.
Classic vs RH450, am I right the only differences are the built in tuner and the 3 presets? Tubetone and compressor seem the same. I'm asking because the price difference at Thomann is now 985 euro vs 639 euro, and that's before you ad 170 euro for the rh450 footswitch. Altogether a gobsmacking £430 sterling extra for the presets with footswitch. My main reason for wanting the 450 in the first place is so i don't have to carry valve and compressor pedals. So if the two models are the same in that department... Or would I regret not having the bells n whistles? Help, girls and boys! Decision time looming.
You also get a much more versatile EQ with the RH450, and the fact it 'looks' a little more polished with the red LEDs, etc. I it were me, Id pick the RH450 time and time again. The features work really well.

I cannot remember the exact logistics of this, but my old band played Aberdeen at some point on our tour. We drove all the way from the Midlands where we had had played the night before, stopped in Newcastle, went on a night out, spent too much money on going out and fuel, then slept, then went to Aberdeen (fairly huge drive). Whisky and using services showers were a highlight. I loved it, the difference is we virtually never got paid at all as it just doesn't work like that in the scene we were part of. So w actually shelled out a lot to play our own gigs. Classic. Aberdeen was awesome.
I have owned the same rig.. just at different points in my bass journey lol. I use my SD1200 with 2x markbass 4x10´s, and its massive, haven´t turned it up past 3 lol. Wish i´d had the chance to use it with the berg NV412, think it woulda torn apart the ampeg 8x10´s my rig normally gets pitted against at gigs. Anyone else have an SD1200? me and raggy were discussing the very very low serial numbers we both have?
I think my LM3 serial number is fairly low as it was bought virtually the week they came out. I would really like to try one of these amps.....cannot believe the weight/wattage ratio. Plus, personally I love Markbass gear anyway.
Not that yellow, But it sounds AWESOME!
Nice setup dude.

Oh I might be going there tomorrow! Any pics you can share so I know what to look for? Thanks
AFAIK, the db212 is a hell of a cab! I am with Musicman20 on this: since I have played 12" cabs, I don't want to use 10" anymore.
+1, the DB212 is one nice 'one cab' solution if you go for the 4 ohms. Apparently its a touch bigger and louder than two x DB112.
I went from a 410 to a 212. I'm back with a 410 now and much happier. Try 12s in the shop, see how you get on.
Good post, its down to personal preference on this one. 12s do have a more low mid focus to me, and I like that. Chewy is the description I use!
If I already used a DB210 my first choice would be to add another DB210. Surely that would tick all the boxes? I know there's a “buzz” around Bergantino but Aguilar DB’s are just as good.
Again, Chris could be hitting it on the head here. Bergantino are fantastic, but then again you already have a fantastic cabinet. Its all down to your ears. If you must go Berg, then Id listen to them first then decide which you prefer.

2x12. If you dont need REALLY HIGH volumes, which no doubt the 2x12 can do anyway, id go with the 2x12. The AE410 has huge amounts of volume capabilities. I had never used 12s until May last year, and now I really like the tone.
