That said, I'm almost totally immune the the effects of different neck profiles. My J and P are polar opposites, but I adapt to whichever no problem.
+1, the only thing I cannot get on with is Warwick necks, but thats just me. P to J is no problem. I think perhaps starting on a P style bass helped with stretching easily.
Always tone! Your agility can be worked to suit any bass. If i was a confort-type guy i'd still be playing my first bass, a Maison P-copy! I have a SR5 and the first month whith it made bang my head on the wall plenty of times regreting buying it but now i can't see myself finding a better neck than that one! It's just simply amazing! So fast and slick! And what a tone!!! You only need to get used to your gear, no matter your phisical limitations
Im hoping my incoming 5 string EBs are the same for me!

 3.
Really? Kenickie were a sh*t band who were vaguely famous (if you were a student at the time) for a couple of weeks when it was the in thing to have a female fronted indie band (see Sleeper, Lush & a load of other useless guff from that time). I actually enjoyed the programme, taking it in the light hearted way it was intended. But why have somebody like her, who is so blatantly anti-musician, commenting on a programme about musicians. All she does is sneer, and that's what pisses me off about her. Music was of so little importance to her that she stopped doing it as soon everybody lost interest in her band, and became a (not very good) TV presenter.
+1 Cannot understand why she is still presenting. Awful band as well.
 4.
When signed, we would rehearse every week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for around 10 hours a day. This would be working on the set, especially if gigs coming up, writing and working on new songs, record company bussiness and the odd game of headers and volley. Friday, Saturday and Sundays would be for gigs and Monday we would have as our day off. Plus studio, promotion etc could be on any day it happens on. We did work very hard at it.
If I was signed I'd be more than happy to devote my life to it! Alas, the band I have left were nowhere near that stage. I envy your experience The main problem is now I feel very apprehensive joining other covers bands.
 5. Bass first, then guitar. Still prefer bass by a massive amount!
 6. Im a little picky with 5ers but I think some basses look better in 5 string format, (Lakland DJ/JO, Ernie Ball Big Al 5). You can definitely still have a cool image and not stick out with a 5 string. Unless you want to stick out, which is also cool! I would just try detuning, I used to do it a lot and had no problems.
 7.
I just got this Nash from BassDirect, arrived yesterday http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...sh_63_Jazz.html Realised I should never have sold my old CAR Nash Jazz last year (now owned by a very happy Stacker) as its a Jazz for Precision players - ie, really chunky neck, not the skinny neck I can't get on with on with on modern Jazzes. Put some new strings on, adjusted the truss rod and its really nice. Happy Jack will of course hate the relic'd finish! I now need to sell something to help pay for it .... PS, I find the Gallery a bit intimidating. I feel (perhaps incorrectly) that I am dealt with in a pretty peremptory manner (eg, I asked them to source a particular amp part and they never got back to me; and every set-up I have had done has buzzed like mad, even though I explained each time that I am a pick player, as I think they set up for finger players). I get the feeling each time that I am something of an irritation. TBH, I wish there was an alternative in London like the Bass Centre of old
That is one awesome NASH!!!!
 8.
Just noticed you did go 2x210 and 212, have you gigged any combinations? really keen to know I've got by with just the 212 so far, be nice to have something closer to my ear, but on its own it certainly gives enough out
I think the RS212+210 is a nice compliment. TC did a good job making these cabs work together. The 10s give you the punch and a little more clarity, whereas the 12s give you the nice low mids and extra warmth to the low end. I think if you have an RS212 id personally get an RS210...the RS210s do work nicely together though. Two RS210s is more like a punchy tight slightly aggressive setup. The RS212 gives you that nice think middy tone that ive grown accustomed to really like.
Does anyone know how these compare to my markbass 102p/102std hf cabs?
Hmm, I have never tested MB cabs at a gig. I have a neutral view on them, and I would consider them down the line for future purchases. But, I definitely think the tone of these will be quite different. From the review on the internet, im guessing the RS cabinets are more natural and have a little vintage character, yet are still articulate. The RS cabinets do sound VERY loud and perhaps they are designed to be that way. I think what would sway me to the RS cabs is the tweeters they have; the RS cabs have a very subtle and sweet high end, nothing pingy or harsh that Ive found even on Berg cabinets. Its smooth, sweet and compliments that more vintage-meets-modern design. Towered up they sound fantastic, I must admit. They also weigh hardly anything for ceramic speakers.
 9.
MIJ 'reissues' aren't really reissues, though. They're just interpretations.
+1, the MIJ I owned seemed like this. It was based on a 62 but not to the detail of the USA models. I do have a lot of time for the MIJ basses, and I wouldnt mind getting a brand new one and using it for another 14-15 years like my old one. But, as per above, there is a difference. Getting the US electronics version would bring it closer though.
 10. This looks pretty damn cool
 11. I really am starting to like Bongos! Although at the moment my favourite odd bass design is the Big Al.
 12. I must admit, the 62' MIJ I had was good, but compared to the latest USA Precisions, the pickups and sheer grunt could not compete. The MIJ sounded great with new strings, but the USA instruments sound much more powerful, and they also feel a little more solid overall. Plus you get an amazing case and the other new upgrades, but there is a cost difference!
 13. Thats a beautiful fretless Clarky, and looks worthy of even more money than you would like for it. Amazing condition for its age.
 14.
But most of the Japanese ones I've seen have that horrible red tort scratchplate....which I find odd because it isn't a replica of the '62!! So factor in another £40 to make it look good with a brown tort plate Si
+1, thats the only thing I didnt like on my old MIJ P 62 reissue I sold on. Very nice bass, especially for the money. The Red Tort was not a good look though, as Nigel will agree as he changed it straight away!
 15.
Gareth sold a Macbook to a non-basschat friend via my recommendation. He is very happy with it and would like to thank Gareth for making it a very smooth and friendly transaction.

Just had a very pleasant deal with Gareth involving a very sexy pair of cabs. Price was fair, bloke was a diamond to deal with. Don't hesitate if he's selling something you want Cheers mate

Ok, I know it's predictable, but I'm going to say more of the same. I also had a good experience dealing with Gareth, reliable, good communication, quality kit. You get the picture - he's ok. Ok ? Looks like the truth is out there Gareth. cheers mate T
Thanks for the kind words chaps
 16. Quality pedal Cheers for putting up a review; it definitely feels a little nicer and more interesting than the TU2/3. I got mine last week and I really like it.
 17. If you like the more warm chewy mids, and like to 'feel' some bass behind you, the 2x10 + 2x12 works very well. The 2x10 x 2 is more of a punchy tone machine.
 18. Tom purchased one of my instrument cables last week. Fantastic basschatter; buy or sell to Tom with full confidence
 19. Id be interested to know if he ever thinks AC might produce a slightly cheaper range, like the Sadowsky Metros.
 20.
Thanks for the feedback dude! Sounds right up my alley. So you think the 2x10 would be a suitable replacement from the 4x10? It's a battered 15 year old peavey cab that was a gift at that, and it's the only cab i've ever owned! And potentially enough for backline-only? -Dave
If you are getting just the one cab, the RS212 is probably a better option. If you want a modular 4x10, then two RS210s would be spot on. Vertically they sound massive due to the fact you can actually hear your notes correctly
 21.
Hi folks! I'm on the hunt for a new cab to replace my dying peavy 4x10, and I've always loved the markbass 2x10 STD (but it's ouchies expensive) and I like the look of the Hartke 4x10s, but I've been recommended the TC Electronics RS210. They look excellent for the money, but has anyone actually got any experience with them? I'm looking for something reasonably light, nice and loud (for my markbass little mark ii 500watts) and punchy. Thanks guys! Dave
The TC cabs would be a very nice upgrade from the Peavey. Id describe them as tight, and punchy. The horn is nicely tamed with just the right amount of sweeter high end, (eg not brash and in your face). Id recommend the latest versions with the new smooth black finish. Only problem is they have just gone up by £100 each! They are easy to move and the covers are also a good price.
 22. The 2EQ bass control has a lower freq shelving, but it's down to very low sub bass that doesn't make much difference. If you really cranked that area it's more likely to take a strain on your amp/speakers.
 23. I agree the 2EQ is a more driving P type tone, whereas the 3EQ always reminded me of a much more aggressive and bassier version of a Jazz, (sort of). It's definitely worth listening and trying before making your mind up, as I've realised. Usually I like the original designs but with the Ray the 3EQ just works.
 24. Just resurfacing this topic... Ive been listening to the clips again, and as my Classic is no longer incoming, I was thinking of just getting a new 4 string Ray, single H. At first I thought it has to be 2EQ. Now listening again, I think Id miss the complexity and sheer grunt of the 3EQ. Its a tone Ive gotten used to for years, and all the bands I like normally have 3 EQ Rays to really blast through the mix. Thanks for these clips Linus.
 25. Over the weekend Ive had my old drummer up visiting. I used to play with that guy all over the UK for literally no money. I definitely miss the adrenaline rush of playing that type of music so Im thinking of just committing myself to the originals band Ive got going and leaving the covers scene again. Dont get me wrong id like to do it, but Im a bit wary of joining bands I dont know anything about now....Id rather wait it out and join something with people I know or join a more 'fun' outfit thats a little more honest from the word go. I joined a covers band years back when I was 15, and I was handpicked from a group of people by my tutor and he basically told them to get me in. I recorded for them, rehearsed once a week, and played paid gigs. No hassle, good lads, and they were at least 6-7 years older than me. This recent issue was nowhere near as fun or relaxed. Its Rolling Stones covers; it doesnt take more than a few moments to get upto speed.
