Ah well, all pretty simple then And the more I look at this bass the more I love it....
Thats what happened to me...listen to the youtube demos and you will be addicted!

Sounds great Clarky! I support when I can, especially bass specialists. I used my old local shop for Orange gear and setups/checkovers. But, ultimately, the internet prevails with certain things.
Thanks tB. In some respects I'm glad this wasn't snapped up. This way it's sort of getting a second chance. If I can get used to the neck finish when it comes back then this could well be my 3rd bass 'keeper'. If not, someone will get the opportunity to own a very nice, lovingly pampered fretless Ray.
Bugger, my Classic Ray is now cancelled due to a few problems, and this was tempting. I hope it works out for you

Here is a picture of the spec on mine that's on order: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?act=attach...st&id=49288

I CANNOT wait for mine! Let us know when yours gets here! I've had to cancel the Classic Ray...I won't go into it as it's being dealt with, but there were a few issues when it arrived. Shame. Ah well, 2 other EBMMs incoming.

Surely there is one out there who can rehearse twice a week and have there own equipment. We aren't looking for flea! just someone who can play solid on the bass and who has a bit of spare time to be in a band. We play mainly indie anthems and make quite good money . For more info call or text 07984644258 or leave a message here. cheers Link to Post - Back to Top Logged Precision Skulker Of Shadows member is offline Joined: Nov 2009 Gender: Male Posts: 4 Location: Newcastle Upon Toon! Re: Bassist wanted « Reply #1 on May 18, 2010, 4:28am » Carlsberg don't do cover bands . . . . . . . . .but if they did . . .!! To any bassist reading this; if your toying with the idea of replying to this ad - just do it. This band R.O.C.K!!! (I know from personal experience). They're tight and loud and have a good laugh to boot. This is a great bass slot and once it's gone, it's gone........ Classy! But he has given no time or energy to the band since day one and after wasting our time and then giving us a list longer than my arm, of dates he cant do, not bringing a bass guitar to rehearsals let alone a bass cab. I feel is just taking the piss. We have put a lot of hard work and money into this band over the years and people pay good money and rely on us putting on a good show. Then a new member joins and after wasting weeks rehearsing its becomes clear we are going to start dropping agents and clients in the sh*te. (sorry but we cant take that risk). So when we do turn up to our next function and the clients say, you did a great job thanks! I wonder who will be classy then! So any bassist who wants to join a band that takes there responsibility's seriously and can put the time in to get tight then give me a call. WOT - Many thanks. I wont even respond! Maturity, and integrity...they make a difference. Im a nice chap btw, a simple chat would have helped. 4 months of practicing isn't no effort, it's more my time that's disappeared into the ether. Probably for the best ay! « Last Edit: Yesterday at 11:56pm by musicman20 » Link to Post - Back to Top Logged Roc Senior Member member is offline Joined: Mar 2007 Gender: Male Posts: 1,274 Location: houghton Re: Bassist wanted « Reply #7 Yesterday at 9:03pm » So what's the band called? I know a good bass player doing nowt since On the Level split. Link to Post - Back to Top Logged Clarkie I Pop In Noo An Then member is offline Joined: Aug 2008 Gender: Male Posts: 44 Location: Sunderland Re: Bassist wanted « Reply #8 Yesterday at 11:12pm » The band was called Snagsby, we have now got I new front man and hopefully bassist. So we have a different set and we are changing the name etc.(Soon) In the very near future we have 2 gigs booked so we are pushed for time. We really need a local lad (sunderland) long distance relationships don't seem to work? And someone with a general love of playing his instrument, not just chasing the almighty dollar.
That's exactly the point. With original material you have to be together to write the songs and then play them until they work. The band all have to be in the same room at the same time. With covers, you listen to the tracks then learn them. That can be done at home, at work, wherever! The rehearsal is then just that - not a session to learn the songs, but just to get them up to gigging speed. IME of course! YEMV....
Thats the approach I took. Actually, once an originals band is REALLY comfortable, like I was with my old band, even once a week isnt necessary if you are all busy and there are no new tracks. Ive done gigs with massive gaps between other gigs/practices! It actually made the gigs really fun and fresh. -

Its calmed down now. I think the drummer realised most the Newcastle music scene has read about his antics. Nice going. Professional ay! He made out I was in it 'just for the money', well its a good job I wasnt as Im about £60 down from the costs of travelling etc. -
I would rather just say "This isn't going to work for me, sorry lads, good luck". If you're soloing instead of playing your part then you're likely to cause even more rehearsal of the song you're already bored of, because the cloth-eared berks won't be able to figure out why it doesn't sound right. The band sound like a pretty unworkable bunch to me, but I would've politely ditched them when I realised how much of my time they were hoping to waste with silly rituals like the PA thing described above, running through simple songs more times than is necessary, smoking in the rehearsal room (I only recently stopped smoking but I voluntarily stopped smoking indoors several years ago because it's such an anti-social thing to do), etc. As for advertising for a replacement before telling the guy you're planning to replace, well that is rude. I've had it happen to me in the past and I wasn't impressed. But that's not what I was commenting on.
Completely agree, I understand what you are getting at now I should have walked a few weeks back. -
If you were bored enough to not want to play the songs properly you should've just quit instead of tooling around playing "mini-solos".
I did them as per what they required until about the 4th time over in a row...Im sure every drummer adds extra fills...agreed shouldn't be done unnecessarily. -

I think my lack of business-like manner didnt match up. Im first and foremost a musician, the money is an easy issue to deal with. I think they just want a plodder, hitting the right chord changes every now and then. I dont think they could handle the mini solos I put in whilst they were trying songs over and over again. The last chap quit for the same reason, not enough gigs and too much time given up for the band. I think the lack of knowledge on the bass equipment front was definitely an eye opener. They expected an Ampeg 8x10 cab to roll in....I kid you not. Anyway, somehow theyve already found out I know and they have attempted to apologise and give excuses. I have found the best way to deal with it is pure ignorance. Arguing with them wont work; I think just doing something better is the key. -
the band I am currently sessioning for the first year we were rehearsing usually 2 days a week (150 miles away) from 11 am till 8pm each day. then the label brought in an MD and were doing 5 day stints of 10am - 9pm and working on no more than 2 tracks a day. Gets well tedious after a while but it doesn't half make you tight when youv'e got an MD cracking the whip and pulling you up on any sloppy playing! Thankfully we are down to once every 2 weeks now just to keep on top of things!
Wow thats a lot! I hope you were getting good money ! -

Cheeky so and sos! I cannot believe they have moaned about the equipment! Just because I wouldnt store a £1K rig at a damp reheasal place! How dare they?! Not one of them play quality equipment, all cheap ebayed £100 guitars. That offends me more than anything. -

We coud all do it and then no one show up.
Potentially VERY funny
Yeah mate sounds like you are well out of it, what was the deal with setting up a full PA what a palaver, that would put me off more than the rehearsals if truth be told, completely stupid.
The PA issue was CRAZY! I mean, I know I have to know how to use it, but mic'ing a full kit for a rehearsal. I CAN hear the drums thanks, Im STOOD NEXT TO THEM.
G.... Best out of it, it seems. And as you say it would have been something else soon enough. And the point about promised riches is right on the money for me... At this rate they will never get out of that bedroom. Seriously...you do function work for money ..and of course it can be very enjoyable, but if you have racked up time and money already with no return and not even one in the can..???...that is either VERY cautious or dilussional..IMO. Waste of your time and money but at least you don't have to honour any commitemnts as it doesn't sound like they have any
Im kinda a little upset that people can be like this who you learn to try and trust. Im quite relieved in very strange way. Ive not said anything to them yet. Im either just going to ignore everything or send them a mature and stern email.
Jesus. This is like watching a car crash! As SP said, it's them that look like twats Gareth - not you. Bad luck mate. That's Mackems for ya!
TBH, there were issues that I ignored, like the amount of smoking that occurred during practices. Each to their own, but I hate going home stinking of it and more so my girlfriend cannot stand it. I had to wear old clothes after a while. Plus, its a non smoking building and it has young kids in there practicing. Not good. I really didnt like going to Sunderland. I dont mind the place at all, but the travel was getting on my nerves. I think ill stick to good ol Newcastle hahha. It was like a car crash. I think this would have happened anyway. I would have given up or just not enjoyed it. Another issue, they didnt understand I didnt like to leave high end cabs in the practice room. As they all use quite cheap gear (very odd for a band earning) and they really did just throw it about without caring, ive probably saved myself a lot of problems with looking after my equipment. Hmmm. What a day! -
Is this for real?!?
Yep. Pro: I found out now, and all of basschat know not to bother with them. Con: I look daft, and I have now got to find another band. I am thinking of a mature response to them.
