1.
With a pedal was my first thought (as was the VT!), but wondered if there were any that could do it without.
I think Orange Bass Terror, LM2/3 with pedal, or TC RH450. The TC is expensive but believe me it can do very clean and clear/slight tube grit/full on grit and it is very warm and versatile.
 2.
What I've also realized about this bass is that despite the sharp looks it is very functional to play in the ergonomic side of things, the angular body shape is very comfortable and it's by no means as cumbersome to hold as it might look on pictures. Actually the body when you look at it, is quite petite and with those 3 huge single coils and the massive bridge, everything seems to be neatly compact and evenly placed. I have ordered mine in April almost sight unseen, I had only previously tried one at a music show last year and liked it but I was only able to hear the sound through one of those pandora box headphone amp that was on the Ernie Ball stand, didn't give it justice, now that I have heard it properly through an amp I am convinced that I have made the right choice.
Excellent news Im really looking forward to that first few minutes of hearing it...
 3. How much are you turning the gain up? Ive used the OBC115 with the Orange amp and it was very very loud, filled the room. I wouldnt turn it up too loud though, as its a valve amp and can hit very high volumes. I think you may need another OBC115. Ive not actually seen anyone using the Hiwatts, and they are VERY expensive.
 4. This is a Piranha instrument cable. Its very long, and good quality. Straight jack to jack. No issues, and good condition. It is 10 metres long. Its as long as any of us will ever need, and its always been stored/wound correctly to make sure it lasts. It will be sent in a padded envelope, or I am willing to meet up locally if its a Newcastle basschatter. Apologies for the edits; I found the original sleeve it came in and realised it was actually branded and the length was 10m. Here is a link to the same product. The 10m version is at the bottom. Payment via bank transfer please or cash if it's Newcastle meet. Cheers
 5. Wow, this is Sterling Balls one off Big Al 4 single H in Sonic Blue! http://www.ernieball.com/forums/music-man-...pas-big-al.html
 6.
I was out and about in the big smoke today enjoying a day off when I spotted and tried this Big Al 4 strings in the Bass Cellar, Denmark Street. Olympic White with a white perloid guard, rosewood neck and the 3 single coil pickup combo. It played really nice and the best bit is that the asking price on the tag says £1695 but they are willing to let it go for somethin between £1399-£1450 for cash. (in other words 15% off for cash) If you are after one of these and you want it now without having to wait 5 months like I am for a 5 strings one, then give them a bell and put a deposit down, it will not last long at that price. Believe me if I didn't have one on the way I would have snatched that one, it sounded the bllx! Like Ed Friedland said, it's a P-Bass killa!
I still think we were wise ordering the 5 string version. Someone snap this up and join the club!
 7.
Withdrawn, completely come to my senses, no way am i parting with this its far too awesome, i'd rather live on beans for a month.
I had the same thoughts when I nearly sold my LM3...its far too good to sell.
 8. Little review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWLxPvVH4Ic...feature=related I didnt realise they gave you mutes!
 9. It's all down to how much you enjoy your hobby. I love playing bass and music in general. I don't have any huge financial commitments and I don't currently envisage ridiculously expensive cars that cost far too much to run. I'd rather have quality gear and enjoy it. You only live once; don't play cheap gear forever On the subject of Ashdown, I have never been able to get a nice tone.
 10.
lucky fella! I miss my Albert lee guitar. I had it 3 years and then traded it last year against a Steve Morse Y2D. I love the Morse, just wish I could have kept the AL I'll have one of the Big ALs in the future
Lovely! Like that. Ive seen a Sonic Blue/Powder Blue one and it looks brilliant. Get in on the Big Al club
 11.
3 MM and 3 Fender - I detect a symmetry
Definitely! I feel as if I have hit exactly what I want. I dont really want to fiddle with them and buy/sell anymore. I also have a maple/rosewood even ratio! EDIT: There is an even ratio of sunburst/white as well! Im hoping this is it for a long time, and ill concentrate on playing.
 12. Decision made, and rosewood for the board. Exact same spec as the pic in the first post. Deposit going down tomorrow
 13.
Will load some pics up later tonight Reading quite a lot of good things about the Hartke LH500 amp over the last couple of days Anyone used one with an MB cab ??
Ive used the Amp on a tour before, its damn loud, pretty musical, but quite one dimensional and fairly heavy. But what a price! Try a LM3 as soon as you can...
 14.
Managed to get another hour with it today and just done an A/B with my old Behringer cab that I only gig with so it is only really heard with lots of other noise going on ( drummer, guitarists tuning up etc then the gig ) and staggered how much hissing and farting it was doing at low and high volume ( I think the tweeter is the main culprit ) Must admit that my amp settings now bear no resemblance to where they were sat at last gig and I am now playing about with my Vamp and seeing what the potential is. So looking forward to Fridays wedding gig as it looks like a nightmare load in so may just go with the cab and not bother with the pa bass bins Tony PS Getting itchy to go the full monty and buy an MB combi to match
Pics???
 15. I sold my 2 x 8ohm DB212s (Chocolate Thunder) to Higgie. I knew id have to stick with Aguilar. Ive tried all sorts of different manufacturers, all high end, even Bergantino, but Aguilar is just perfect for me. Introducing my new Aguilar DB212 Classic Black, 4 ohms - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...t=0#entry558730 It looks really well made, and I think the black tolex is a tiny bit thicker. Sound? I already know, but this time its a one cab solution. I couldnt use the 2 8 ohm ones due to transport, and even this is going to be hard work. Happy chap. Amp/cab GAS has disappeared. Hopefully for a long time.
 16.
Well as my SUB had it (to my ears) and its a 2EQ im guessing they might. And if this "weak" G string is a MM thing wouldn't a SR5 also have it?
Apparently the Ray 5 doesnt suffer from it at all. "StingRays are generally known for the punch of their sound, making them very suitable for rock/funk applications and excellent for slapping, and for being of extremely high build quality. The 6-bolt neckplate is an example of this. The neck is also quite wide, especially compared to that of Fender Jazz Bass-type models, as well as having the above-mentioned truss-rod adjustment mechanism that allows players to adjust the truss-rod without removing the neck. Some users have also noticed an audible difference in volume between the lower three strings (E, A, D) and the highest G string, with the G string suffering from a lack of volume. This problem has not been observed in 5-string StingRays." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_Man_StingRay No idea if its true but Ive not heard of it on a Ray 5.
 17.
I would say it doesn't put me off stingrays, as im happy with my Ray34 and not about to give up on MM but it does make getting a "real" SR4 a harder decision.
I havent looked into it much, but does the 2 band have the reported issue? If not, SR5 is calling you
 18.
Im convinced its a EQ/Freq and technique thing. Ive done all the set up adjustments and changed the pup to a Nordy in the Ray34. To be honest i didnt notice much improvement. The Sub was a bit easier to fix as i leveled the pole pieces. It seemed to do the trick. Still not as loud as my Duck Dunn but better than it was. When i play with a pick (most of the time) and dont cut the mids or highs its fine. It doesnt jump out like my previous basses (P's and Jazz) but its there. when i boost the lows or cut the mids, some notes on the G string almost disappear, normally at the first 5 or six frets. I only ever hear this when im playing along to music or gigging, not just playing on my own. Just doing the usual root octave thing is when i notice it more. Im not a slapper (not on bass anyway ;-) but when i pop the G occasionally its pretty damn loud so no, i dont think its a volume issue as such. I've also check the levels using the input on my PC and all strings seem to read about the same, with everything set flat. I have gig recordings that do prove its not just my imagination. I do think that if everyone else can live with it then i can. Its not a big deal.
Agreed its an EQ/Freq issue. Some notice it and some dont. The amp/cab/technique probably reveals things. Personally, It doesnt put me off Stingrays at all.
 19. The LH500 is probably the best value for money amp out at the moment. I couldnt believe how cheap the prices were after I used a friends on tour. Excellent amp and value.
 20.
Both my Ray and the weak G thing and i did fix it on the Sub but cant on the Ray34. Ive even changed the pup. Its not bad, and i can control it but its still bugging me and putting me off getting a SR4 in the future. I know what you mean about having to have Made in USA on it. I was quite proud that my Sub had this on it. Sad i know. They do come out of the same factory as the Skyline range by Lakland though, thats encouraging as well all know (except Gareth;-) how well Skylines are made.
Id definitely try a few more EBMM Stingrays (perhaps 2 band) before worrying about the weak G string being consistent. Perhaps even try the new models
 21. Nay to gaffa....I feel bad for the poor bass. I use the red rubber rings. Excellent...almost perfect fit! No drilling required.
 22. Snagsby would have done it, but I think Essex might prove a little too far. Shame, as our set is 99% ready with a new vocalist. Good luck.
 23. Ginger was lovely... I've just googled Nicole and she's yet another looker from what I can see.
 24. WoT, I had a good listen, and I must admit the basses sound much more focussed and 'articulate', but still warm and smooth. I like it....compared to the older tones you had, (the Mesa did sound great BTW) I can see why you are favouring the RH450. How are you finding the compressor?
 25. Id still like an old school vintage Ampeg combo, the real deal. I wouldnt go back to their modern 8x10s after owning the one, not a chance. I agree, we are paying for the lightweight/small size. Soon it wont be 'as' expensive though. Im quite excited to see what becomes of the latest cabinets/amps, although I think the Markbass F1 is very very small and thats small enough!
