Strangely enough that is what happened but I think one of my young daughters had also been playing with the eq on my amp Only had about twenty minutes playing about with it ( her indoors is now home and said she isn't listening to that noise all night, strangely enough my suggestion for her to go back to work then didn't go down too well ) Set the eq all flat and it's starting to sound nice and looking forward to playing about with it more tomorrow but as I am still using my Behringer amp think that I may not be able to fully utilise it's potential ( trying to talk myself in to buying a new amp )
I HIGHLY suggest a LM2/3 for that cab. It will be the best combination and you can add to it to get a cool MB rig
 2.
you are buying some great musicmans at the moment. this is another one imo. the wait on all three will be worth it!
Its killing my savings, although to justify I basically was going to spend around £3k on a custom Sei/Overwater for my 30th next March. In the end I knew I wanted a few different basses instead of one very expensive one. I cant really pick what I want from a custom builder, plus Im not one for really exotic tops. I also sold my two Rays to fund the incoming two...but yep the Big Al 5 SSS will be worth it I think. Ill update the thread when I go ahead haha.
 3. Have any of you used the DI/line out yet? Its brilliant....Im very impressed!
 4. I know exactly what you mean, but I think there is a point where high end blurs in on itself! It all sounds that good, you are paying the extra for a brand name or even just the hype (often seen on talkbass). I think once you are at the high levels of Aguilar and Bergantino, the differences arent really 'better' or 'worse', its what you like! As I rehearse with a buch of really good musicians in a totally different area, I literally just take picks/straps/cables/sansamp. I use their cheap rig and their cheap bass. Why? Safety on the way home on the Metro, and the fact it can sometimes be raining and I dont want anything getting wet! Gigs will be different though. However, to counteract all of this, I took the TC RH450 test amp TC Elec have sent me tonight. I used the bands cheap bass, and the bands 1x12 PA cab. I used the DI on the amp....it sounded fantastic. It was mid-punch central. That cheap little 1x12 probably wasnt enjoying it, but it sounded pretty good and the DI quality was fantastic. On Weds im getting a lift so ill take the RS210, the RH450 test amp, and use their bass again, just to see what difference a proper bass cabinet makes. I BET that 2x10 is easily loud enough, as every time we will play or rehearse we DI the bass. I have used cheap combos in the past and had great fun, and great sound. Ive never used much Hartke gear but Id like to hear the high end kit.
 5. Well the price I have been quoted is certainly decent and judging by what some other people have been quoted, and some of the higher prices on the net, im more than likely going to order in the next day or so. Its going to be a LONG wait.
 6.
For what its worth my MB 151P cab was the worst cab ive ever owned. Not wanting to bring a downer on this thread but it lasted all of two gigs (regular ones so i knew how different i sounded) before i took it back to the shop. The problem was i wanted a one cab rig and while the MB was a nice cab it really needed something to go with it. It was all low end with no mid punch. Its the only time ive ever had to have the master on my SA450 almost all the way up to get heard, and that was not a good tone. Even my MAG115 deep outperformed it with the same amp at the same gigs. And yes, i did everything i could with the EQ. Thats the only reason it lasted two gigs. Tony, i hope you have better luck than i did. EDIT: I should add it was the older, square version. It was too small to deliver. Hopefully the newer ones are better.
Oh heck, I hope its alright Tony. Im sure the redesigned version should be. I want this one: http://www.bassmerchant.com/item_detail.ph...p;category_id=2
 7. Jees, that's quite a significant upgrade! Markbass cabs are some of the most expensive out there. It will handle the frequencies much better, be lighter, and a lot more reliable! Personally I like the design of their cabinets quite a lot, especially the NY series. Hope you like it
 8.
Just had a play on that today - very nice I managed to buy some DDT strings instead of a bass though so its still hanging on the wall...
Ohh do tell! How did you find the bodyshape whilst playing? I'm sold on the electrics already, I imagine it sounded really good?!
 9.
Has anyone tried the terror bass with the OBC 410? Or do you guys think it would be best with the 15?
If I get the urge to buy one Ill definitely try it, but I think if I did buy one it wouldnt get much use.
 10.
Does the Compact not have a pair of speakons then? If so, daisy-chain from that, it'll be parallel. If not (why not? Grr) then just use the speaker out jack, it'll be parallel with the speakon and with an 8 ohm cab will give you 4 ohms total load. The amp doesn't care which way round you connect the speakers as long as it's a parallel connection it's electrically identical, the speakon is just a better socket design than a jack.
Yes, the single speakon seems a little odd. Ways around it though I guess.
 11.
I saw this picture on Talkbass (forgive me I was bored!). This was from a thread about a guy who has owned the Jazz he`s playing for 40 years. Now I know you can`t see the bass but I just think that it`s a cracking photo. Better than playing a sweaty gig down the dog and duck. Jez
Awesome photo.
 12.
If wieght wasn't an issue and looks were I probably would have gone for the orange 1x15 as the orange tolex ghee me a small crisis. But after lugging around my guitar rig and being bent over at work hurts my back.
I dont blame you haha. The weight is pretty immense on most the Orange gear. The guitar PPC412....that is a killer.
 13.
Despite my "issues" i do have severe gas for the 4 string Big Al do u ever think a shop in the UK will have any in stock?
Haha, catching isnt it. If I order, im going through Darren n Co at the Bass Merchant as usual. Ive got a good quote im just making sure im 100%. When I emailed him, he said they have a Blue Big Al 4 in stock...not sure which blue. Id love to go and test it, but I cannot get down there at the moment. I think they are pretty damn rare at the moment.
 14.
No, Road Worn Precision in Fiesta Red. Honestly, I was blown away by it. And I was determined not to want it, as I always thought the Road Worn range was overpriced. I don't usually like red on instruments either, but for some reason I kinda like Fiesta red. I didn't actually like it at first, it grew on me big time. The fiesta red CV precision looks badass with the rosewood board. I kinda like Sonic blue but it doesn't all come together as well as the Fiesta red. This thread isn't helping- I'm now GASSING for a Fiesta red CV Precision. I guess it would be cool to have a little brother for the Road Worn!
Ah! Got ya. It will essentially be the same apart from the fact the Road Worn will obviously be better. Hmm, if I were you, and you really like the Precisions, and didnt want a CV 60s Jazz, id get the 50s CV just to have a different option. Then again I can see why you want the Fiesta Red CV Precision.
 15.
i love the look and sound of these basses However, something really bothers me about them! and all Musicman basses! The string spacing and pickup pole pieces never, ever match up! it just does my head in! i mean how much money/time goes into the design process? my guess is rather a lot! but they still cant get that simple issue sorted out! The picture above really shows how bad it is, i personally like a little more attention to the design of a bass and its pickups, we could be heading for another Musicman weak G string issue here! Rant over
I never experienced the weak G string, and I had two 3 band EQ Ray 4s before my new orders. I have heard its usually those basses that you find it on; the Ray 5, for example, never has it. I dont think the weak G string is a pole position issue, I think its an EQ design that some notice and some do not....and maybe different amps/cabs pronounce it more. I know what you mean about pole/string position, but surely there is a reason for it? The main reason I like EB is that you just get great QC (Im hoping I do on my next few) for a good price. I wouldnt dream of swapping the electronics in them as they just work. Thats me though, EB fan boy hahah.
 16.
Does the Compact not have a pair of speakons then? If so, daisy-chain from that, it'll be parallel. If not (why not? You may need some combo speaker cables (speakon/jack) like I use with the Orange and take to gigs where Im expecting an old cab with no speakons. OBBM can sort you out very cheap for these and they are uber high quality.
 17. I recently noticed a band using the guitar version, Albert Lee Guitar (The Swellers). It looked amazing. Im not normally one to go for the unusual, but this bass just works visually for me.
 18. Looking good! Clarky...there are now two non-Fenders in your stable! Quick, get another Fender.
 19.
This question probably makes me look even dumber (but hey, if you've been on this forum for a while then you've seen me make stupider posts)... I'm currently using a Warwick Pro Fet 5.2 and a Barefaced Compact. The Fet is 500W @ 4ohm (so maybe around 300W into the 8ohm Compact). I often see posts about getting another 8ohm cab to get the most out of an amp... but if I did where would I plug it in??? The amp has a 1 x speakon (I think) port marked "500W@4ohm Min" and 1 x standard jack "Speaker" output. I'm probably misunderstanding but presumably you can't plug an 8ohm cab into the speakon??? So can this amp only take one cab then??? Or am I missing the vital piece of information all other bass players know?
Does it have one speakon and one normal jack for the speaker connection? If so, plug one into each. You can also daisy chain although not from the Compact as it only has one speakon.
 20.
I would JUMP on the fiesta red, but I've got a fiesta red Road Worn coming for my birthday Having said that, it's still the colour I like best. TBH I kinda love them all, there is something wicked about the CV '50's. I guess I'll try em all out.
Cool, Road Worn Jazz in Fiesta Red I dont normally like red on instruments, unless its that Fiesta Red with the right guard, and then I REALLY like it. How odd!
 21.
I can't believe this. Someone on BC orders the "first" (supposedly) big al 5 and now all of you want one! I can see why though, it is interesting.
Haha, well, I agree, we all create GAS for each other. BUT, I wasnt in the slightest bit interested until I heard the demo video. That was it...sold.
 22. I know, there is still divided opinion on these instruments, just like the Bongo. But Im a EBMM fanboy, lets face it. If people can like the frankly odd Warwick shapes, then Im sure a little push in the right direction and theyd start to see why I like the bodyshape. The tone on these basses from the videos is just STUNNING. Perfect combination of MM punch but with single coils! It also does passive as well as active. Both settings sound really good. I didnt really look into these basses until I heard the Ed Friedland demos on YouTube. This is the reason Im suddenly drawn to the bizarre bodyshape: That is the exact spec I want. I figured despite the fact I could just keep saving and get a true vintage Fender, Im actually really happy with the modern ones I own. At this point my next bass has to be different and offer me something Ive never had before.
 23.
Ah but which model to go for? I've got huge GAAAAS for one at the moment, and being a precision lover, I'm undecided between the CV 60's in Sonic blue and the CV 50's.
50s CV or the Fiesta Red CV.
 24.
I believe the only way you'll achieve a similar loudness with those smart power ones is 2 of those 2x10s but that's expensive. The only orange bass cab I'd feel comfortable with is the OBC 115, but it won't be as loud or light as the compact. But lol at the bass off idea.
The OBC wont be as light as the compact, without a doubt. BUT, I did test the two side by side when Alex sent Compacts out for the baschatters to try out. Only briefly though. It was certainly a LOT lighter, but the sizes were similar. I wouldnt say one was louder than the other...very similar. Not only that, the Orange, as per the Tom Bowlus 1x15 shootout, has a really nice high end despite the facts its a 1x15 and has no horn.
