I've just 'rediscovered' Stingrays and forgot just how much I like the noise they make. This one is my fifth or sixth and first 3eq pre. I have the mid set to centre and TBH it doesn't sound any different to the 2eq. The build quality has always impressed me although the pre-EB I owned was very heavy. My first one was a 1989 (I think) that I got from Musical Exchanges in Birmingham in 1995 which I kept for almost ten years. My favorite one was a battered white/maple '86 which I was mad to sell. This black one is a pretty newish one and is an absolute peach.
Nice! Black/maple or White/maple is always a good combo.

Is that the 'one' that was viciously stolen? Glad its back btw. How is it nowadays?
Hey fellows.looking in to buy a good 4x10 cabinet soon for my bands studio, live gigs and maybe recordings as well.looking into something that has a good "punch" (like an ampeg lets say?).also looking for an amp to match it,but thats another story here's some cabs i have in mind(i wouldnt mind spending over about 800 euros, sorry for saying euros but i live in greece): 1.SWR Golliath 4x10 (not for sale anymore, found it from some dude for 500 euros) 2.Hartke hx410 hydrive (http://www.thomann.de/gr/hartke_hx410_hydrive.htm) 3.Ampeg svt410 (http://www.thomann.de/gr/ampeg_svt410hlf_bassbox.htm) 4.Orange sp410 (http://www.thomann.de/gr/orange_sp410_or.htm) this one is small too so it could help for live gigs since im kinda of a noob,it would be useful if someone gave me some advice for one of these cabs.thanks guys. Chris
If weight isnt an issue, check the Aguilar 4x10s. Id love a DB410 but Ive got the Orange OBC410 therefore its not necessary.
That sums it up quite well ,In your opinion unless the right pre EB comes your way you would not part with the extra £500,To others they would not part with the extra cash for a Limited edition even an important an genuinely different one like a 30th,(again unless something just clicked)Which shows just how good value for money a bog standard EB in whatever colour comes your way really is.There really are little differences between them all. After your first its just a reason for buying more and all the better for it,Thats why they make LE's in the first place to tempt people who already know 99% of what they are buying. I certainley would not sell my EB at the rock bottom prices that are out there and maybe a few who do will regret it?For those who have not got one at all "get 'em while they're cheap!" Got any pics of this 30th? they make me go all funny! Now wheres that lottery ticket?
I agree, I got a 'good' price for mine and they deserved it, but I regret selling one of them! Never mind. Im hoping the next 3 EBMMs I have coming are all keepers like the Fenders Ive got. Then Im DONE with buying.

EDIT Not mine and not anyone I know, I just saw these this morning.
2 of them are mine that I sold to Jim, and they literally are almost fresh from factory condition I sure hope someone realises they are a bargain
I always knew that I would eventually settle on an NS/Streamer bass but it's taken me an age to find 'the one' (despite thinking I was there on a few occasions) but I've finally got 'it' and consequently my collection of basses are going to be whittled away! Peace at last. Amps and cabs... the Thunderfunk will unlikely ever be beaten IMHO but cabs are still a bit of a bugbear as I want the tone I get from my Aggie DB12's but with 50% of the weight.
If Aguilar make a version of the DB212/112 in neo form, but with that massive authority and punch the DBs provide, then I think they will make a killing. I doubt they'd ever going fully neo, but I did email the Aguilar Customer Service about lightweight offerings, and they basically said watch this space. I cant find anything better than what Ive got (for me anyway), so Im stopping.
Hi all With all my buying/selling, I think Ive reached a point where Im struggling to find anything thats better. Its almost like I expect there to be something I should be looking for, but it isnt there. Ive decided to stop once my orders arrive, and enjoy and gig what Ive got. More practice, less GAS. I tend to find when I use my gear I realise how much I like it. There is one thing left; a 'void' where the Classic Stingray sat for about 24 hours. I sold 2 great Stingray 4s for that, and owning two was definitely overkill. But, I still think I will fill that void with another standard 3EQ white Stingray with maple board. Mmmm. I also discovered that more exotic manufactures just dont work for me.
In reply to my own post, I recently tinkered with the idea of yet another rig, but I quickly realised the size wasnt any smaller than what I already have. So, ive learnt my lesson that Ive got a stellar line up of amps/cabs, and I need to enjoy them more and not move anything on. I did decide I still needed that 4 string White/Maple Ray though... Ive promised myself that this is it for at least a year. I need to pay less attention to the for sale threads and get involved with more playing and sorting out my career. Hopefully more time will be spent on the technique threads! Ithink its the same sort of realisation Nigel/Siddlx had a few months ago, (eg we are here because we like to play bass, not just to GAS and discuss, although discussion can be necessary ).

Seems to be working with me on an iMac with Safari 5. I think the lads have been updating the products the past few weeks.

The only compressor I use now is on the Rh450, which is the best onboard compressor Ive had the joy to use. Simple, and effective, TC know compressors anyway so thats always a bonus. The compressor on my Trace GP12 400SMX barely did anything if im honest.
Although (if all goes well) I'll be getting 32" scale mij fender jazz, that has some 60s influence but not a reissue????? Anyway as Ive got a new contract for work coming up soon, and I'm taking time off my current job (payed holidays whoop!!) so I'll be in the monies. I'll be looking to either start a new project bass or buy another jazz bass, and looking through fenders catalogue the honey blonde coloured highway one bass cuaght my eye. I'll end doing upgrades to it anyway and as it comes with a badass 2 bridge as standard that's one thing I don't have to buy. I'm just wondering what you guys think about it? One thing that puts me off is no maple finger board option. If anyone could suggest a vintage-esque guitar (not necerssarily a fender) in the price range of between £600 and £800, I would be greatful
Definitely the new American Series Jazz. The upgrades far out weigh the other options in that price bracket...eg you won't need to upgrade any of it. Standard colours are around £830 including the best hardcase I've ever owned.

What I don't understand us the crazy second hand market on Rays. Fair enough, most of them are just normal late 90s/early 00s, and don't have the new nut or pickup options, but £600-700 for a mint condition Ray is just madness. I think there has been in a lull in popularity but they are slowly coming back. Luckily because of the condition of mine I got a fair price on them, but ive seen some going for less than £600 on here. Madness!

My experience was that the modern SVTs sound dull, and are far too heavy. The AD200b does it for me.
-
Its the lo pass filter that keeps it sounding more 'old school'. The software im testing allows you to change this and make it more Markbass-like, but personally I quite like to more thick creamy high end.

Sounds great!

If budget isnt an issue, another EBMM in fretless? I find the tone for a MM sounds great fretless. Another option, giving you jazz and p offerings plus a quality board would be the Tony Franklin Fretless.
-
All will sound like a Stingray, and only a player who is quite aware of Stingrays will realise the difference in the 2 vs 3 EQ. Both are great. I have sold 2 recently and regret one of them, as it had sentimental value. But, I have rectified that and ordered one in my favorite colour.
-
The 2 vs 3 band is definitely a subjective test. I did the same when I was younger, more EQ must mean better. All my favourite players use 3 band EQs. I then realised recently that I DO prefer the 3 EQ tone. I like the extra cutting mid-bite. The 2 EQ is great, but im against the old school grain on this one and prefer the 3 EQ Ray. If you want it sounding old school, just stick on some flats or use the EQ properly.

Very 'different' and Warwick is how Id describe the $$. Personally, I couldnt get along with the necks, but the construction on these basses is very very good. It sounds nothing like a MM humbucker btw, if you were expecting that. Has its own unique voicing which I think is a good thing. Eg, if you want a MM tone, get a MM. If not, dont! I also think compared to some manufacturers the prices are pretty reasonable. If you like the style/shape/neck, you will like the sound no doubt
It had a transparant gloss varnished body, I couldn't find anything like it on the website though?
It cant be a Classic then. Definitely overpriced!
Something like an Aggy db212 then
Tis one option, although plenty of others I guess to suit weight/size/budget.
