1. I checked these out in guitarguitar today....nicely made combos. It seems TC amps are taking over quite large areas of guitar/bass shops!
 2.
For a while now I've been GASing for a 51 P bass (not helped by watching lots of old Specials videos with Horace playing an old Telecaster bass). I've never played one, and I'm not sure if the non-contoured body or chunky neck will suit me, but as ever, I have little enough common sense for this to stop me buying one... So, my question is this.... would I be better off getting a CIJ one (which seem to go for about £450 - £500), or buying a Squire Vintage Modified TB for around £230-ish, which leaves me a fair chunk of cash to pimp it up if required. Is there that much of a difference between the two? I admit to being a bit of a label snob, so normally the Squire logo would put me off (pathetic, I know) but I've only read great things about these latest VM models. Anyone played both? Or even better, got one for sale Cheers Tredders
GW will be able to comment as he has both!
 3. Hi everyone I know the RW Jazz bass gets a LOT of love on here and a fair bit on talkbass. Can anyone comment on how they compare to the Lakland JO basses? Im looking for 60s Jazz vibe, without the custom shop prices. The RW Jazz is considerably cheaper, and Nitro, and has USA pickups. The Lakland is now a 'Hanson' Lakland. Opinions? How good is the RW Jazz?
 4.
Musicman20?
Lol I wish!!!
 5. Im never in the right places! Dammit
 6.
In the pink. Of course. For interested parties - • 1 x Rickenbacker 4001, 1980. • 2 x Jim Dunlop medium plecs.
Mint!
 7. If you like Markbass, and the NY, try the NY122...only £710 ish for a light powerful 2x12 with a pretty decent amount of whump!
 8. Just thought, Ibanez Promethean?
 9. I know where Clarky is coming from, but Id be tempted with the Mesa WA option. If you want super light and powerful, the MB F1, Genz Benz 6.0/9.0 or GK MB500 are your best bet. Personally, I really want to get on with the Genz gear, but the 6.0 will sound bass-lite to a chap who is used to warm tubes....believe me. Who actually manages to get grind/proper dirt/rock tone from a Genz amp? I tried it with the Shuttle 9.0 and managed to get a very low bit of 'hair' on the notes, even with an active bass. The F1 is a great amp, but I still think I prefer the LM3. There is a LM Rocker Demo vid somewhere in German.
 10.
Admirable what Trujillo did, but this?... Hang your head in shame, Robert!!
I think he should get the chance to enjoy it, its his gesture that got it back. Doesnt matter that a thrasher is playing a Jazz instrument. Jaco would probably think its pretty cool! Rob has got serious chops.
 11.
Naaah, Cliff Burton
+1, Cliff was awesome, Rob is damn good, but Newstead was dullllll.
 12. Ive not had that experience yet, but I have had a friend who also plays bass say I have trademark 'Gareth' runs/fills and slides that I tend to use in certain songs.
 13.
Keep plugging away boyo! Actually I just got back from practice and took the Pino & the Sado so I could A/B them...somewhat to my surprise I'll be taking the Sadowsky to the gig this weekend. Who knows what might happen. Sorry to derail, carry on Gareth
If the Pino or TF come up for sale let me know
 14. Also, that Neck has a lot more Birdseye than the one I sent back did...jealous!
 15.
sorry to hear you had problems...care to share?
That colour looks great! I can see by looking at yours that I had a fairly rare problem; a neck pocket gap and a step between the neck side to the body. Yours looks perfect! Enjoy
 16.
I'm not sure if you are still interested in an answer to this question, but I've just picked up my classic 4 today. What an unbelievable finish, totally gobsmacked with the quality. I must admit to buying it without playing it - on reputation, as they say. Not my usual style, but I've a regular MM before and I figured they wouldn't get this new one wrong. I'll post a couple of pics, if anyone is interested. Thanks for listening...just needed to tell someone!!!
I really REALLY wanted my Classic to be spot on, and it seems yours must be and mine had a small problem. I hope to see pics soon!
 17. Unfortunately ive never tried this amp, although there is one for sale second hand in the for sale section! Aguilar make, IMO, some of the best cabinets out there. Their amps got rave reviews on talkbass and on here, so I need to try one at some point. If their amps are like their cabinets, they must be great Great demo here on a setup thats actually for sale in the for sale section (I think its the same amp!) 18.
You just love buying gear don't you You have already found your nirvana but that's such a nuisance because you don't have the excitement of searching for a new bass. What do you want from a new bass that you don't have already?
Hi Nig! Hmm, Nitro finish, possible custom paint job, amazing attention to detail on the small fine parts of the bass, (dont get me wrong the Fenders I have are top notch, but I mean the really small detail) official covers on the bridge/pickup, official thumb rest, American Reissue pickup wound to be as close to 'modern and punchy meets vintage motown thump'... To be honest, not a lot of massive differences, and only thing you would get if you spend more money (like a custom Fender paint job in Nitro). Ill think on!
 19. This combo seems to tick MANY boxes. As I am an idiot I dont associate Ibanez with good quality bass amps, but this might change everything. I notice the Bass Merchant are now stocking these, and will no doubt do a great price if you enquire. Even im tempted!
 20. Wow...just as I was looking for a 51 P!
 21.
If someone would buy my fretless '76 Precision, I would buy this and move on my Nash (much though I love the Nash, your Jazz is even nicer and prettier still). Unfortunately the first part of this chain ain't happening
The NASH is for sale?!
 22. Jim if I were in London and didnt have to pay shipping id love these.
 23.
Keep the cabs and get a car. All this schepping around without your own transport is nuts. I wouldn't compromise a cab just for size if it didn't do the job I wanted it to.
I must say I agree. Size and weight are factors, but tone and volume are more important. A single 12 will only go so far....ok for rehearsing and acoustic, but a 2x10 is the smallest Id go for small gigs. 2x12 is the optimum (or 1x12 x 2). Those MB 2x10s are very light.
 24.
I was also going to suggest trying out the P-Retro, you have nothing to lose since it works in passive mode too and doesn't require any soldering to fit. Definitely whack those TI flats on. I prefer Pyramid Gold or LaBella flats for old school thump but the TIs are a good compromise between those and rounds. They also sound great played with a pick.
I didnt realise the P Retro need no soldering....interesting. Agreed on the Flats. I have some EB Group IIIs as well but I think they are going on the incoming Ray 4.
Unless you've have rampant GAS and a need to buy every weird design of bass going like me then the only real reason is to improve on what you already have. It sounds like your current bass is pretty much what you want, so what you need to is make a list of the things that you are not quite happy about with your current bass. Not things you think you might like but things you KNOW would improve the looks, feel, and sound. I'd be interested to know exactly what improvements you think your current bass NEEDS.
Good idea....to be honest, I think I can think of many things Id change other than have that Fender 'custom shop' magic....
 25.
Gareth, as you know I've owned one or two P basses since getting sucked into the world of BC. Beedsters Kylie, a lovely '74, a very good Jap 70's RI, the TF fretless, a Sadowsky Metro and now the Sadowsky NYC. Hands down my Pino is my favourite by a long shot - yes they are all P basses, and yes some of it is in my head, but its the fattest, warmest most comfortable to play and played with a pick it has a massive presence. Totally my go-to bass. None of the others I've owned have lasted as well. If the house was on fire and I had time to grab one bass - it would be the Pino. I reckon what you have is already great, so you can either try changing pickups to adjust the tone or settle on knowing that you won't be happy until you get a Custom Shop... I have a suspicion that the latter is what you want to hear
Thanks for the input. I think you are spot on, and thats probably what I was aiming for. I wanted to hear it, but my bank balance didnt! It will take a long time to get to a stage to be able to afford one, and id have to do some serious shifting around, but that Pino looks stunning. Great to hear a hands on comparison as well, as it puts things in perspective. Ill leave my Ps as they are, and just get the TI's on one of them. Then in a year or so Ill look into a Custom Shop.
