Probably is, but when it comes to a super super clean solid state tone, and if you want no power limiting, its best to get a higher wattage.

Don't worry about the neck pocket issue....just have a look at it. My Ray 'issue' was not born from a factory error, it was put together from a different neck and body and they didnt match, but this doesn't normally happen so don't worry. I'd say try is and have a look. I have 5 Musicman basses, all 2010-2011 models....and they are all stunning. Once I got the dodgy one replaced I was VERY happy. If its a standard 3EQ/normal colour, then its steep. But if its a matching headstock HH or HS, in something like vintage sunburst, its a good price!

I must admit, the more rigs In play, the more I think 'it just sounds like me but with a few extras'. I do quite enjoy buying amps and cabs, but my enthusiasm is running out of steam. I've given up searching for super light cabinets after the hike in neo prices, plus, as agreed above, I think the Aguilar DB cabinets are my preference above everything. If I was feeling greedy I would buy a pair of DB112s in Tweed or Choc Brown to match my DB212...then I have two versions of my favourite cab(s)! All I think I want is a super clean solid state amp with a fair amount of headroom. My TC gear has definitely proven to be excellent. The 750 and the RS cabinets are excellent. If im bringing out the big guns, there is nothing quite like my all Orange rig. Yes, its a big heavy tube amp with minimal EQ and bells/whistles, but wow, there is NOTHING like it. It's stayed with me for 3 years and I won't be selling it. Even if I barely gig it, I want to keep it.

Auditioned for a fab new band last night ... and got it!!!
Musicman20 replied to Clarky's topic in General Discussion
Excellent news! Things do seem to work out eventually, and this has worked out very quickly! Good luck with it all. -
The Genz Streamliner is a very sweet sounding tube amp, and it can handle very high volumes and still be clean (although it can dirt up very easily IF you want it to with the gain dial changed a little). Much more versatile than you would think. Some users have discussed how they are getting new tones all the time just be adjusting the gain. The mids need a little push to be 'flat' (about 1 ish) and you will probably want to dial back the bass, but that is what the dials are for, I'd opt for the 900 if you are coming from the big Mesa amp. Worth the extra £100 for the headroom. The RH amps should actually satisfy you quite well if you don't want harsh treble! They are are more of a low mid kick type amp...eg imagine a tube amp through a sealed 8x10. Its kinda baked in to the amp, but WHAT a sound it is. The RH450 has a high pass filter that automatically cuts the plasticky Marcus Miller type high end twang, but with the 750 you can dial that in or out. Hopefully this helps.

Which bass for flatwounds - Stringray H or HH?
Musicman20 replied to mingsta's topic in Bass Guitars
I bet you will be surpised how much you can make the HH a little 'warmer' with that neck pup...plus the two outer coils is like a Jazz/Ricky/Musicman combination and its awesome. -
I suddenly thought this said 'obbm's basic-bits is no'... when you see the topic to the right from the main screen. I thought, PLEASE DON'T SAY 'NO MORE'. Thankfully not. Great cables, keep it up OBBM!

Are you looking for low weight/micro amps? If so: Aguilar TH500 TC Electronic RH450/750 Ampeg Pro 7 (but watch our for limiter issues) Genz Streamliner 900 Genz Shuttle 9.2 All different, but all of them will get their own fantastic tone.

Which bass for flatwounds - Stringray H or HH?
Musicman20 replied to mingsta's topic in Bass Guitars
Well, I have exactly the same 'lineup' of 4 string Rays. Apart from age, I am in the same boat. Currently, I have my 2011 Ray 4 H strung with Ernie Ball Group III flats. They are fairly zingy at first but are starting to dull now. They feel great! The main thing I noticed is the tension is a little higher than Slinkys, and the low end thump is more pronounced. I have tried a fair few sets, and personally on an EBMM instrument, try the EB strings because they do match VERY well. I have a new late 2011 Ray HH which has the stock strings. As its a more versatile instrument, I will probably leave it with nickels as you can hear more differences when you move the selector switch. The neck H can get very thumpy motown-type warm bass with nickels and a drop on the treble on the onboard EQ. Try the flats on the older H first -
Help Need - Sale of EB MusicMan StingRay (1982)
Musicman20 replied to Paul_Heys's topic in Bass Guitars
My 2011 Stingray H 3 EQ has a very rare amount of flame figuring for a new bass...out of pure luck to be honest. I've gigged it about 15 times, probably practiced with it double that, and I've only adjusted the neck with the magic truss wheel once...it did need a fair adjustment but once I changed the strings it needed it anyway. Totally love it. I am never making the mistake of selling my EBMMs again. I just want more! -
Fair enough if you want loads of headroom, I like the grindey tones from GKs anyway (coupled with my Ray it sounds beautiful). I hope you pull the trigger MM20, I know you've been looking at GK's a long time, I doubt you'll be disappointed.
I've been after a very clean solid state amp that is more punchy than tubey so it's a GK or Genz Shuttle.

Fender American Original/Vintage Precision Pickups?
Musicman20 replied to Linus27's topic in Bass Guitars
I'd love to try these: http://www.aguilaramp.com/products_pickups_AG4p60.htm -
One word...headroom. Not interested in playing super super loud, but this amp would provide a lot of clean headroom. Emailed GK, the USA made MB amps will probably start shipping to the UK in June/July. They have to sell the Chinese made versions first before shipping the new ones.

£425-450 for a standard MIJ P or J with the Japanese pups etc. Depending on condition.
One thing has surprised me, I have run my Ampeg PF500 and TC BH500 through the cab side by side and the TC has got the PF beat for volume !!
Make sure you put that on Talkbass for all the TC haters who jumped on the bandwagon to bash them even though they thought the amps were super loud! Proves to me that TC actually know exactly what they are doing. Cool stuff.

Stunning prices on Genz Benz Focus LT cabs
Musicman20 replied to Musicman20's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think, although not 100%, that the EBS Classic cabs are ceramic but engineered to be lighter, like these cabs. As much as I'd like one of the 1x12s id rather have a high end stack or the Aguilar DB112s. Weight, when it comes to 1x12s, isnt a massive issue. -
Did the rug come with it? Very tonally matched. New optional extras - matched rug and headstock!! (and a very cool bass too, lest ye think I'm taking the Michael)
Haha! This was a gift from my girlfriends mum. I say gift, she just got bored and gave us it.
-
Definitely! I love the S pup solo'd or mixed with the H. It's a very very versatile bass Quite rare in these parts.
Yeah, its a USA l2000 with a jazz neck and custom finish. Im pretty ocd with basses and won't settle so I guess ill have to pass this one. Shame... You had a ray with the same problem if I remember correctly, right?
I found out the Ray never left the factory like that. After it got to the UK someone swapped out the neck to a Matching Headstock/Rosewood neck. It didn't work. Finally got one fresh from the factory and it's great!
