I`ve found this with my Schroeder cab - and think this is very good. I now have to be even tighter than before, which is great for my playing.
The mids, IMO, reveal everything.
-
I've DI'd many times without and amp, or used amps that aren't mine, so I tend to just go with it. Coloured or uncoloured, its essentially still me. I've never had an issue recording as yet. There is something about a coloured amp/cab that adds its flavour to many of the famous basslines we all hear. I don't mind which way I go...coloured, uncoloured, hifi, retro, whatever....I just get stuck in! Its funny how so many players get a Markbass amp/hifi cabinet and then sling a distortion or Ampeg-type simulation pedal and barely turn it off. That is instant colour, and I like it, but you aren't doing what the amp and cab are there for.
If your bass and or playing isnt up to scratch it will become obvious fairly rapidly IME, even in a mix.
This is my only issue with Bergantino descriptions. To be honest, if you aren't that great a player, you will know from any amp/cabinet. Yes, tube distortion and compression can cover it up, but to be honest, and fairly clean solid state amp and a cab with a tweeter will show the player they need to brush up. I think that MIGHT be what puts some people off from the start. They see a somewhat 'over muso' type description that comes across quite patronising and assumes the good ol' rock n roll pick players playing through Ampeg rigs shouldn't try Berg for fear of showing bad technique. Not so. As with most equipment/vehicles/etc, brands can also bring across 'brand snobbery', which really doesn't feel comfortable with me. This isn't aimed at any posters here by the way, its just something I've noticed with brands and this failry new 'trend' of ultra clean/almost hi-fi like tone.

Fortunately, as mentioned, we are all different. Some of the Berg cabs are literally like a mini-PA. Very revealing tone, but very true source of your amp and bass. This, for some, is a massive change, and a positive. Some obviously may not like this, and may prefer the much 'rougher' and rock and roll tone of old designs of cabinet that colour the sound to give you a, for example, Ampeg cabinet tone (the famous 8x10) or even more boutique like the Aguilar GS and DB tone. For me, I see advantages both ways. I have yet to find a 2x12/1x12 I prefer the tone over compared to the Aguilar DB tone...but I always like to look!
When will yours turn up MM20? Be interested to hear your thoughts about it up against your Streamliner 9.
Don't think I'll be getting one to be honest now. House move is now much more important. I might pick one up in the future. More than happy with what I've got to be honest. -
I think I enjoy the 'proper biker' conversations almost as much as the 'Fodera are too expensive' ones So what constitutes a 'proper biker'? I ride approx 300 to 400 miles a week, all year round, does this qualify me or do I get excluded because some of those miles are on a Harley? I've ridden from Miami to San Francisco, and beyond, all of it on a Harley. Also Miami to Washington on a zig zag route through the Blue Ridge mountains. All of this on a great big old Electra Glide in all weathers, probably not 'proper' biking though. Meanwhile I have an Italian sports bike that I probably ride less than 2K miles a year but it's seen as OK down the biker cafe because it looks like a race rep. For me, a big part of the fun of a Harley is that when you fling it into a corner you really have to work hard to come out the other side - the same cannot be said of my Aprilia or Beemer which sail through with little effort. Personally I think a Harley is way more similar to a vintage Fender and a Ducati is a Fodera. I'd be more than happy to own all four
Don't worry Barrie, I think you seem to be having a blast! I don't see age being any barrier. Enjoy life, spend money, enjoy bass! We are all here once and once only.

This was great! Well done. What a stunning gig you have...I would love to play with an artist like this, and it doesn't help that Jessie J, to me, is a total stunner. She has a fantastic voice.

Yes, that video that's linked on the opening page isn't great. It sound very very dull.
....This happened to me too! I bought 2 AE112's from Mark, after trying against my trusted Peavey T-Max/Trace cabs rig.... In isolation, they sounded much more defined & tonally rich... (also bought a 2nd hand Genz Benz neo-pak head) The reality of working the cabs live, with a full band sound, failed miserably for me! (although a sound engineer at Butlins liked them so much he wanted to mic them rather than DI) ...I just found them weak & too Hi-Fi. I eventually replaced the Bergs with Aguilar GS112's & they instantly worked for me. "I have seen another chap on here buy a set of AE112s and go back to his Aguilar GS112s. Its all down to taste I guess."
People keep going on about Fodera's expensive NYC location as though they were slap bang in the middle of downtown Manhattan, when in fact they are in Brooklyn, and not even in the cool/fashionable part like Sadowsky are...
To be honest, in the visit vids on Youtube, its not that nice an area! I was quite shocked.

Unfortunately putting this idea on hold as we are moving away from my hometown to Newcastle asap. This was meant to happen in June/July, but I've had enough of my current job/house/town.

Only the Max amps seem to be really cheap for importing IMO. The only problem is you don't get an official warranty, but I guess you don't when you buy most second hand items, so its the same risk, (although Genz do operate a Warranty Transfer that may/may not apply to the UK). -
Well, they are stellar cabinets especially considering the attention to detail and the designer being a complete pro at this, but, if the tone doesn't suit you or what you like, then maybe that series of Bergantino cabinets, or just Bergantino cabinets themselves, aren't for you. I have seen another chap on here buy a set of AE112s and go back to his Aguilar GS112s. Its all down to taste I guess. Personally I'm hoping he makes another neo line, as I can't see myself looking into the latest HD line.

I have found, as have a fair few posters on Talkbass have posted, that the RS cabinets can work quite nicely with almost any amp, obviously it 'looks' better with a micro/small amp that fits on top of it when it is vertical. I have used the TC RH450/750 which work perfectly with the RS210 and RS212, and as mentioned above, the Streamliner by Genz. I used to have a Markbass LM3 and it really brought out the sparkle that these cabinets can produce should you want it to.
We have a few quality UK cab manufacturers and there are a lot of (generally more expensive) basses made here, but the amps are more of a problem. I don't know of anyone making lightweight amps in the UK. Anyone?
Matamp are making a lightweight 500W amp similar to the Orange Bass Terror. I presume they will be manufacturing them in their Huddesfield base? Bit of a niche product, but it will be quite something; Orange do make their normal amps here and most of their cabinets, but not the Terror series.
This does not compute
I'll be keeping the DB212, and adding the Genz to my cab collection but not for a while!
-
No but it doesnt look that clean/in a good state when you can pick up a cheap cab on eBay for the same price.
-
Hi! I use either the RH750 or Genz Streamliner 900. The Streamliner is an awesome clean tube tone machine, and the low mid kick of the RS cabs help being out the best in it. The Shuttle 9.0 is a nice crisp clean and articulate amp and the cab would take that power at 8 ohms no probs. The tweeter is clear and crisp, but not overly ganky sounding. The mids are full and punchy. It's a nice thick chewy sounding cabinet. I forgot to mention I checked inside the ports on all my TC cabs and they are all very clean and well made inside as well as out. They all have cabinet lining as well. It's pretty damn light and easy to move for a ceramic 2x12.

Don't bother....buy a Peavey or Hartke.

SOLD!!! This is an absolutely immaculate TC Electronic RS212 cabinet. It is latest smooth finish, not the rough older finish. I still have the original box and packaging in the spare room, so it will be very safe in the post. It comes with the original TC RS212 cover, which again looks immaculate. I will try post pics, but to be honest, there isn't one mark on it. These seem to have had a rise to about £549.00 in the stores, not sure. I would like £360 for it with the cover (which is about £29 itself) all boxed and with the TC speakon lead that comes with it. Im guessing postage will be about £15.00 + with Interparcel.com Payment via bank transfer, cash on collection, or Paypal gift. Based in Newcastle if you want to view or pickup. Basic picture to show it exists and that it is TOTALLY mint condition. There are strips of carpet inbetween the cabs to give it more stability, if you were wondering. These are just sat on the cab, not attached in any way.
I like that this has the 3DPM thing going on. It really seems to make a difference...
I think out of all the Shuttle amps, this literally is 'the best of everything in one' and even though its bigger, its still stupidly light! . -

I haven't had much experience with a Bongo but I want one...probably 4 or 5 HH. They have just this month announced the new lightweight tuners for the Bongo/Reflex/Big Al, so if you order a new one it will have new tuners. My plan is to wait until I have almost all the money and just order a new one...probably won't be til near the end of 2012. 2013 is the 10 year Anniversary of the Bongo and I bet they will release a special edition. IF you daren't take that leap, the Sterling 4/5 and Stingray 4/5 are exceptional anyway.
