Its a great idea, was it mentioned that these will be cheaper than the Bass Terror?

Woah, looks futuristic! A bit too much for my tastes, but stunning none the less. I quite like the Super P shape.
Mm20, can I urge you to look at the Microkorg XL rather than the Microkorg? I was going to do EXACTLY the same as you but the shop assistant in the store who also happened to be a bass player and had more experience with both models (price difference was about a tenner before you ask) showed me what else the microkorg could do, and also explained the lineage of the two models. The XL is the successor to the standard Microkorg, they just haven't discontinued it. The XL has an internal synth module that is a marginally reduced size version of their fully fledged RADIAS engine in their larger £1-2k priced keyboards. The standard Microkorg has MIDI, as does the XL, but the XL ALSO has USB-midi so you can connect directly to your computer without a MIDI interface for software editing of the patches. It has more up-to-date software for software synth editing of the patches - search on YT for demos of it. The software is very very useable and is graphical enough to make it easy to visualise what you are actually accomplishing with the sounds. The XL is also easier on the eyes and more pleasingly tactile in operation than the standard one. It genuinely does EVERYTHING the standard does, but has a bit more under the hood, despite having slightly less on the dash. For the sake of a few quid I'd strongly recommend getting the XL. I can also talk you through how I've been tweaking mine, share patches, etc. I'm sure we could do that even if you got the Microkorg standard, but there may be instances where you won't be able to do something on the standard. Re: Moog little phatty - it's great, but it's not exactly small. If all you're looking to do is fulfil the role of the bass in a band (as I am most of the time, though the bass is often a driving force and the riff-maker in a lot of my groups) then I can assure you the Microkorg standard or XL will do a fantastic job for far less money and something around the size and weight of a PT mini.
HI! Thanks for the advice. I don't know why I didn't put the 'XL' next to my description, as it definitely seems to be the one to opt for. As I will be looking to get a recording interface in the near future, a synth like the XL is definitely more suitable. I don't currently have a laptop, and I wouldn't want to have to take one to a gig all the time anyway. We will eventually get a nice Macbook, but for now, the iMac is doing everything brilliantly. Appreciate the advice. It seems you are taking it from the same position as I would...eg a bass player playing synth for certain lines/songs/sets.

That is serious saving and its the one amp I need!!!! Where did you import from? -
especially as my Squiers were spot on and the MIA cost 3 times as much.
...and that is exactly what I think on the matter, and what I said to the store in comparing it much lower value basses. I just don't understand how they can get it wrong!
Other than two basses ive never got to play any of mine before buying. Ive always brought mail order. The only basses ive ever sent back we all Fenders (4 in the space of 6 weeks back in 2010).
4! I didnt realise it was that many. Woah. Makes me realise perhaps I am actually normal for doing this.

What do you do with basses you don't play?
Musicman20 replied to woodyratm's topic in General Discussion
Enjoy it and keep it. You might end up spending it on a car which will ultimately be worth nowt. I'm a collector though, so I think differently. Why have a £20,000 car when you can have a £5,000 car, and 15 basses! -
Great player, no doubt about it. Massive shame that he is ill, I completely agree. I wish him the best of health. I am in no financial place to help others Im afraid. I can barely afford to save to move/buy a car now my girlfriend has been made redundant. It's ok for those who are in safe, well paid jobs to look down and think 'well thats not very charitable', but when things get as bad as they in this country, (and this is the WORST I've ever seen it) you have to look after yourself and your family. As much as I appreciate the US system isn't very helpful, and makes our NHS look fantastic, I can't really comment on the 'oh, he's a musician' posts. That was his choice. If you are a paid musician, just be thankful that there is still a job for you doing something that some of us can only spend a few hours on a week! The majority of us don't have the privilege or being self employed to play music. Let's face it, that is an amazing way to live life, but I personally didn't chose it because I want a more stable career.
Wayne may or may not appreciate our basses. They're not really designed for punk. I've always felt our attitude had a bit of a punk rock edge to it in a "screw what everyone else thinks, we'll do it our way" kind of way.
I have recently discovered that a punk band I like (quite modern, and not the traditional 3 chord punk) called The Flatliners have a bassist who plays, wait for it....a 5 string Jazz! With his fingers! I listened to their lastest album 'Calvacade' again this morning and realised that a skilled fingerstyle bassist with a low B CAN fit in a punk band nowadays, as long as its still melodic, (and no slap!). I think their bassist might like a Super J! I've seen a few ska bands with a 5 string, but not many punk bands. It actually sounds really good. Fattens up the low end, instead of in something really heavy when you can't hear the bass anyway due to the extremely high gain loud guitars.
I blame that on too fast and too furious with a new camera. I didn't notice until it was too late that we didn't get the straightahead tone. With the tone in the centre detent position it's real close to a traditional P-tone but with more punch and clarity.
Don't get me wrong, it sounds great anyway.

I'd love to. Unfortunately some of my cash is tied up as credit with the store. If I can get a refund on the lot I would be interested in the Reflex!
Whether I like them or not I have the up most of respect for the way you present yourself on here.
+1, nice guy all round and happy to take praise or criticism!

Just seen a NAMM video of this bass. It looks stunning, it sounds great, BUT, I do think its strays from a normal P bass tone. Could be the player's technique, who knows!
-
No worries dude! Im glad some of us can make a living off it, believe me I would! My tools of the trade are law books, statutes, etc, so they are MUCH less exciting than a bass! I am not very forgiving, and I have become picky as my knowledge has grown. My bass teacher always said 'don't buy a bass that you know isn't as good as it should be'. He was well aware of Fender QC... I agree that after a while, you have to take something that's 90% there, and my main problem is that I don't live (currently) near a good bass shop.

New stripped-down Rattlin Bone spinoff :-) 'Voodooville'
Musicman20 replied to Clarky's topic in General Discussion
Just had a listen, love it. Really sleazy bluesy stuff. Is this, in your opinion, a high in your bass playing career? It seem like your guys and girls could go pretty far doing it Very unique. -
PS the neck pocket on mine (that is going back) is at least 2mm each side...maybe 3 mm.
-
You have every right to take it back. It SHOULD be a quality made instrument. Take it into the shop (or email if it was mail order) and ask for a replacement, refund, or another type of bass.

[sub]Join the club (see a few threads down).[/sub] [sub]It's disappointing, isn't it?[/sub] [sub]The neck pocket problem seems VERY common on new American made Fenders. I get the feeling some people are shocked that I dare speak out against QC, but to be honest, at £900-£1100, you would be stupid not to be annoyed.[/sub] [sub]Can you send it back?[/sub]
