Warwick lately received the FSC certifaction, is EMAS III certified as well, has the largest solar power plant in the region, only uses "green" electricity from sustainable energy sources, uses geothermics, has purchased the most energy-efficient machines there are, is almost independant in terms of energy and will certainly be completely autarchic within the next years. There are more projects to come, but these are the main points for now. Dirk
Dirk - great to see you on the site. Thanks for the input. Can I ask why the new standards you adhere to should cost the customer? Ethically the customer may feel a little better, but not financially.

Difference in sound change between hi and lo mids
Musicman20 replied to jackers's topic in Amps and Cabs
Boost both, but it depends on the frequency of the mids. I like more low mids than bass...punches just right. -
No problems, Im not endorsed or receiving anything from TC haha. I'm just interested and enjoying their gear. The cabs setup is a tough one. Two RS212s will knock down walls. Very thick, low mid kick tone and that cabinet due to its size/spec does provide more low end than the RS210. The RS112 is a cute little cab; I don't own one as I had to stop buying cabs, but Ive seen a fair few players mix the RS212 with the RS112. One thing I have learnt is that for a standalone cabinet, the RS210 covers quite a lot. An RS212 covers even more, but it is deeper and heavier. Not ridiculously heavy though. I don't know how they got the weight down, but they are quite easy to move.

MarkBass F1 or EA Micro for doubling? Or A.N.Other?
Musicman20 replied to Clarky's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I'd like to try the little GK amps...very good prices! -
These are amazing value for money! Any close up pics?

I think this is a bit too brave to be honest.

Just read this, so its confirming above: "Please note this pedal cannot be battery powered due to its compact size". The pedal looks SUPER small but I need the battery option.

I’ve owned the RH450, and now I have the 750. I’ve noticed a lot of players who have commented on the wattage fiasco, and most of them haven’t played it. If you notice before this came out in Bass Magazine Test (in my opinion, this isn’t scientific enough at all; you cannot test an amps gigging volume in such a way without taking everything into account) EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE said the RH450 was a hammer when it came to volume. A lot of people said ‘its 50W less than a Markbass’. Even I said that. Bear in mind that the LM3 hits its maximum at around 400W…but is that really correct? How do we know that’s the actual 100% output, without an ‘average’ being made from various test sites. I bought the RH450 for its superb quality, its amazingly useful features (none of them are pointless like some amps)and the fact it sounded so good. It also helps that it looks like a modern piece of technology. I appreciate design as much as I do sound. TC have been in the industry for a long time. They have a proven track record of breaking barriers and innovation. Just look at the recent Toneprint pedals and the Polytune. They are one step ahead of the market. To me, they are the Apple of the guitar/bass/vocal/recording/effects world. So, when I compared the RH450 with other amps, taking into account the gain and master volume taper, I noticed it seemed louder than both the Markbass LM3 and the Shuttle 9.0. The Shuttle is a great amp, now I understand it properly and the fact it is aimed at a different tone. The LM3 is also a great amp, but if you compare the RH450 to the LM3, you will notice the limiter is where things become interesting. The LM3 clamps down quite quickly, and will clip in an unpleasant way. It reaches its full volume at about 12/1 on the master volume. The RH450/750 and new Genz amps (sorry not tried the Aguilar TH500, but I know from reviews that Aguilar are also fantastic at providing a good volume!) have very clever limiting built in. The RH amps have the APM. So, yes, if we look at it, TC have a rated 750W ish power module which they have limited with the APM, and allowed the amp to be pushed at a lower wattage, (thus lower heat) and applied a form of compression to even out the results. To me, the RH750 sounds as crisp or as vintage as you want, but it still has some of the signature RH amp tone. But that’s true of all amps, to some extent. I don’t know how the APM works exactly, but I for one think they nailed it. I’ve been happy with my TC gear for two years, and the cabs have also impressed me. There isnt another cabinet at those price points that match the weight/tone and excellent crossover/tweeter. They are small, light (for ceramic) and have a great tone. I haven’t found a bad matchup yet with the cabs and different amps. They do have a low mid bump, as do the RH amps, which is exactly where my tone goals sit. Not overly pillowly, more like a punchy tight bass tone. I did almost sell a cab to get a Markbass cabinet, but I realied I was probably gaining very little and paying a lot more! I also like the fact the cabinets are well built. I have looked at mine and peered through the ports and everything is clean and well made. No sloppy workmanship, which is common even on very expensive boutique cabs. The only problem is they are a little bit fragile when it comes to the finish, but use covers! The grille and wood itself are solid.

I have had the misfortune of buying something, (not a bass) that was from a smokers home. As soon as I opened it, you could smell it. The whole item and packaging smelt of it. Never again. I'm sorry, but I get tired of smokers moaning about having to go outside pubs. I literally cannot stand smoking near me, and I hate the fact that when you walk down the street (especially when its busy) you see the odd smoker holding their cigarette away from them but towards oncoming people. The amount of times I've seen people have their clothing damaged like this is crazy. I would go mad if it was myself. Yes, I'm 100% anti-smoking, and I've been in bands were they all started smoking because of one of them, and I quit quite quickly because I was sick of it. Some of them used the practice as an excuse to smoke/drink and generally do nothing just to get away from their families. I went home annoyed and had to wash my clothes every time. Don't get me wrong, I know smokers who are very polite and considerate, and that is all it takes.

Ah, it might have been strings, the onboard tone controls, or anything like that. Especially when playing with fingers. With a Ray being so aggressive, I bet that brings the control into play. Trying some aggressive pick playing with your other basses, with the tone all the way up and tweeter on. Hopefully should make a difference. Glad its sorted.

Doesn't it state the cobalt is also in phone mobile batteries?! Seems we are all guilty.
-
I have no idea about how they made them, where they source it from, etc, but I would buy them. Bear in mind I have no problem with the other ethics you mentioned, but that's just me. Sometimes I just don't have time to worry about it.

I'm more interested in bass-specific Toneprints! These are coming out soon.

I wouldn't mind trying these. New for NAMM 2012. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxyW5osj2IE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAU1n1HM5oA

Do we convince ourselves that expensive strings sound better?
Musicman20 replied to morsefull's topic in Accessories and Misc
I have used all sorts of high end strings, and the normal sets like Rotos. The Roto 66 Swing Bass sets were a little boring, died off quickly in an unpleasant way, and felt awful. Not keen on Elites either. I've tried TI Jazz flats and they are great. I have one set of DR sunbeams that I havent used yet. For me, as I play either Fender's or Musicman basses, I find EB strings are perfect for Musicman basses. Probably because they go hand in hand. The latest American Standard stock strings are fantastic. A step up for Fender IMO. High end boutique strings aren't always better; it depends. -
2012 NAMM Markbass products - finally they listened!
Musicman20 replied to Musicman20's topic in Amps and Cabs
Which is a terrible shame because if Markbass stuff didn't take their inspiration from caution signs then I'd get a Markbass rig because they sound so great. They are bloody ugly amps (no offense intended to Markbass owners!).
The TC stuff and Aguilar stuff you mentioned in your thread is probably the nicest most slick looking bass gear out there. -
It looks to me like the mute is footswitch only unless im missing something. Give with one hand and take with the other?
FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! I think you are right. I bet the footswitch is £150.00. Well, that takes that out of the running unless its amazingly well prices like £550. -
Rate 'em! 1x12s: Aguilar vs Purple Chili vs Mesa Walkabout
Musicman20 replied to 1970's topic in Amps and Cabs
Fender all tube guitar combos are VERY VERY loud...I used to own one. Even the 1x12s. I've seen large rock bands using one and still cutting through, (they have a lot of treble sheen and clean mid push). -
The 750 and RS cabs are spot on for me. I really like the innovation, despite the 'wattage' issue (which isnt an issue...it does sound like a pushed tube amp but can do this clean as well). They are VERY loud. The RH450 has always been a total hammer and really seemed to push more than my LM3 that I sold. Class gear IMO. Aguilar cabs are great as well. Not tried the TH500 but I have the Tonehammer pedal and i like it. The RH750 with two RS cabs (2x10 or 2x12) will seem much louder due to more speakers.

I'd much rather get a Dingwall/Sadowsky/Musicman Reflex for those prices.

MarkBass F1 or EA Micro for doubling? Or A.N.Other?
Musicman20 replied to Clarky's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Bass Direct have just updated their site with info on the new Genz Shuttle's, and to be honest, the little 6.2 12T combo is perfect, and apparently EXCELLENT with Double Bass as Ed Friedland states in his recent review. I think the price for a new 6.2 amp with more 'ompph' and a nice new 1x12 neo cabinet is quite reasonable. I am considering one myself. Markbass have just announced the Big Bang 500W digital amp. If its basically an F1/500 but with aux/headphones and a better mute, plus cheaper (hopefully) then I'll be interested. If its pushing towards £700.00 ill be going to Genz, because I know the support will be there all the time. I'm also interested in the MB GK amps...it would be great to see what the GK MB800 price will be. I did try the Markbass LM800 and the LMT800, and to be honest, the LM3 sounded 'better' and it was cheaper. The 800W versions don't have the same tone...much more of a baked in EQ (massive down low, and a spike in the high mids) which can make them sound quite sterile. -
Cough Cough.... GK MB500...... Cough Cough
True...not sure I'm a GK tone fan until I've spent more time with them though...but I do like GK's price points! Aguilar have noted on Talkbass that the power module GK use for the MB500 is actually the same as the one used in their new TH350...which is only 350 watts. Strange! Any news on the MB800? -

Oh, and a TTE800...already! -
It seems that not getting a new LM3 was perhaps a good idea. Check www.markbass.it and download their 2012 brochure! A very small 500W digital amp, with aux/headphone in and a MUTE! My word...a MUTE!!!! It's good to see them catch back up. Interested to know the price!
