1. That is serious saving and its the one amp I need!!!! Where did you import from?
2.
especially as my Squiers were spot on and the MIA cost 3 times as much.
...and that is exactly what I think on the matter, and what I said to the store in comparing it much lower value basses. I just don't understand how they can get it wrong!
3. Too far otherwise would have had this! Good luck.
4.
Other than two basses ive never got to play any of mine before buying. Ive always brought mail order. The only basses ive ever sent back we all Fenders (4 in the space of 6 weeks back in 2010).
4! I didnt realise it was that many. Woah. Makes me realise perhaps I am actually normal for doing this.
5. I wish Schroeder still had a distributor.
6. Neo x 212T. SUPERB Genz after service for a start.
7.
Me likey. That would match my old band's stage backdrop. I know you were only joking but anybody into it?
Every single ska band in the world! And anyone who owns a paid of black/white Vans!
8. Enjoy it and keep it. You might end up spending it on a car which will ultimately be worth nowt. I'm a collector though, so I think differently. Why have a £20,000 car when you can have a £5,000 car, and 15 basses!
9. Great player, no doubt about it. Massive shame that he is ill, I completely agree. I wish him the best of health. I am in no financial place to help others Im afraid. I can barely afford to save to move/buy a car now my girlfriend has been made redundant. It's ok for those who are in safe, well paid jobs to look down and think 'well thats not very charitable', but when things get as bad as they in this country, (and this is the WORST I've ever seen it) you have to look after yourself and your family. As much as I appreciate the US system isn't very helpful, and makes our NHS look fantastic, I can't really comment on the 'oh, he's a musician' posts. That was his choice. If you are a paid musician, just be thankful that there is still a job for you doing something that some of us can only spend a few hours on a week! The majority of us don't have the privilege or being self employed to play music. Let's face it, that is an amazing way to live life, but I personally didn't chose it because I want a more stable career.
10. Hartke!
11.
Wayne may or may not appreciate our basses. They're not really designed for punk. I've always felt our attitude had a bit of a punk rock edge to it in a "screw what everyone else thinks, we'll do it our way" kind of way.
I have recently discovered that a punk band I like (quite modern, and not the traditional 3 chord punk) called The Flatliners have a bassist who plays, wait for it....a 5 string Jazz! With his fingers! I listened to their lastest album 'Calvacade' again this morning and realised that a skilled fingerstyle bassist with a low B CAN fit in a punk band nowadays, as long as its still melodic, (and no slap!). I think their bassist might like a Super J! I've seen a few ska bands with a 5 string, but not many punk bands. It actually sounds really good. Fattens up the low end, instead of in something really heavy when you can't hear the bass anyway due to the extremely high gain loud guitars.
12.
I blame that on too fast and too furious with a new camera. I didn't notice until it was too late that we didn't get the straightahead tone. With the tone in the centre detent position it's real close to a traditional P-tone but with more punch and clarity.
Don't get me wrong, it sounds great anyway.
13. I'd love to. Unfortunately some of my cash is tied up as credit with the store. If I can get a refund on the lot I would be interested in the Reflex!
14.
Whether I like them or not I have the up most of respect for the way you present yourself on here.
+1, nice guy all round and happy to take praise or criticism!
15. Just seen a NAMM video of this bass. It looks stunning, it sounds great, BUT, I do think its strays from a normal P bass tone. Could be the player's technique, who knows!
16. No worries dude! Im glad some of us can make a living off it, believe me I would! My tools of the trade are law books, statutes, etc, so they are MUCH less exciting than a bass! I am not very forgiving, and I have become picky as my knowledge has grown. My bass teacher always said 'don't buy a bass that you know isn't as good as it should be'. He was well aware of Fender QC... I agree that after a while, you have to take something that's 90% there, and my main problem is that I don't live (currently) near a good bass shop.
17. Just had a listen, love it. Really sleazy bluesy stuff. Is this, in your opinion, a high in your bass playing career? It seem like your guys and girls could go pretty far doing it Very unique.
18. PS the neck pocket on mine (that is going back) is at least 2mm each side...maybe 3 mm.
19. You have every right to take it back. It SHOULD be a quality made instrument. Take it into the shop (or email if it was mail order) and ask for a replacement, refund, or another type of bass.
20. [sub]Join the club (see a few threads down).[/sub] [sub]It's disappointing, isn't it?[/sub] [sub]The neck pocket problem seems VERY common on new American made Fenders. I get the feeling some people are shocked that I dare speak out against QC, but to be honest, at £900-£1100, you would be stupid not to be annoyed.[/sub] [sub]Can you send it back?[/sub]
21. Personally I would look at a five string you are comfortable with....opens up a new world. Detuning to a massive extent isn't that great, but there are strings out there built for it. I wouldn't recommend tuning 'up'...
22.
Sorry dude I meant him but since we are on it are u Gigi g much ? I was just wondering if the other Gareth plays all his basses much or weather they stay in the bedroom !
Before the beginning of the month, we were fairly busy. In fact, we hoped to be extremely busy over Jan-July before I moved away. Our plans have been changed due to our vocalist. If they don't improve, I will be moving early as the band is the only part of the town that I want to stay around for (and family). My career/education and working life are far more important than playing bass (even though obviously bass is much more fun) so it always takes a backseat. I am a collector as well and a part time musician, but like most on this site, I realise gigging and being a musician doesn't provide that much money! I get a lot of pleasure from simply playing along to music at home, so gigging and rehearsing are a real treat when I get time.
23. Get the cheaper one. Money matters, especially in this current economy.
24. Thanks all. My girlfriend has an iMac which I use (we sold the PC as no need for it with the Mac) as my computer. I'm not sure how much technology and information I need to get this going. The Korg Microsynth could go straight into a bass rig for now, and I think it has MIDI out...if that is what I need to record it on the Mac? Its one of those things...I know its going to lead to even more music gear and its a case of do I have time to learn it and use it.
