I want to try these bad boys out! Unlikely it will happen though considering im moving to the opposite end in 2-3 weeks.

I can't see it that well but if its a noticable gap it would annoy me. Is the bass a USA version? If so, shop for another.

Is this post the best post for metal?

puke on instruments..... looooooovely : /

This is the type of gig where I would be taking a £60 beater bass. If this happened on a £1400 Musicman I would literally be ready to kill someone! I hope it gets sorted dude. -
Don't rule out the Orange OBC115, it is not by any means built to the modern lightweight and high powered specs of some of the super 15s, but it is a lovely warm, articulate cabinet. If you want a big large rock tone, or indeed a more subdued motown thump, this cab really delivers. It weighs a fair amount but it aesthetically looks stunning. Tone is key, and as mentioned above, it really took me back after using lower quality 15s and then moving to the Orange, I've used one on its own with the AD200b Mk3, low ish gain, medium master volume, and that speaker filled the room. Sure, they probably nicked the port and cab design from somewhere, but its works. For the first time with one medium sized cab I could really 'feel' the bass even though it wasn't on super high volume.

Shame, I hope you get these soon!
I'd say Beatles every day of the week and twice on sundays. Wings was a massive come-down which mainly gave credence to the observation that Lennon was the better writer..altho, I wouldn't go that far having heard some of his solo stuff. They both REALLY needed the other person, IMO.
Agreed. The Beatles every time.

Metal bassists - What sort of tones are you using?
Musicman20 replied to spiderjazz's topic in Bass Guitars
I've never been a big fan of heavily detuning a 4 string bass....much prefer a 5 string for those lower notes, plus it means normal strings, normal (ish) tuning, no nuts to file, etc. But, I can see why people want to do it. I agree with the above regarding clean tone. Give it a try...some growl on a bass from a Sansamp can sound wonderful, but if everything is heavily saturated in high gain, I tend to lose what is going on. If the guitarist were aiming for a more rock n roll grit (like QOTSA) then distorted bass sounds great because the guitars are less crunchy...relying more on tubes breaking up than full on high gain modern distortion. Even though I grew up with some fairly 'heavy' linfluences, my heart was always in punk rock, Modern punk still has the aggressive mid scooped guitars with quite high gain, but there seems to be much more room for bass because they don't tend to detune as much. I think this is why I have never played in a proper heavy band. -
I dont have TIM for this.

These are excellent prices!

Apparently the recent combos had some issues is the USA...and I presume it was enough for GK to want to have more control. I think they have always made their larger amps in the USA anyway, so perhaps they just decided to expand the factory. Their are some guys on Talkbass with brand new USA made MB200s, and there isn't much of a price increase. Let's hope the UK importers don't use it as an excuse to add more profit just because of the change. I wouldn't mind paying £50 or do more for a better QC'd product. Im waiting out for the MB800!

All GK gear is being made in the USA now.

It'd be interesting to know what happens if the limits of the poweramp are hit though. Limiters are there to protect speakers and to stop it clipping in a horrible way (well it tries to anyway).
-
Ha! Nope, this one was ordered fresh back in 2010 ish, delivered about this time two years ago. Brilliant straight out of the box. I do have a set of official chrome knobs for it that they sent in addition, but I've left it how it was built for now.
-
Thats the caveat. Markbass amps run out of steam at around 12/1 o'clock. No idea how the taper works on the Reidmar but if its louder than the LM2/3 at 9 o'clock, it would seem its doing quite well!

Thanks WoT, not sure if I did (work is blocking it) but I'll check it later -
Newcastle eh! I feel your pain!!!
Hahah!
Mm20, I was reading your other thread - I'm really sorry to hear things have been quite that rough for you and your lady. I'm not a million miles away from you in Nottingham, so if you did want to get together to check out some sounds and see what you make of the Microkorg XL as well as the synthy sounds I've been getting with my pedals then I'd be more than happy to show you what I've been up to. We could even try and arrange a meetup with Shep/pantherairsoft so you can check out his mammoth rig and synth-esque setup.
Hi! Sorry, I haven't been around much and didnt realise this thread was still going. That sounds fantastic and thanks for the offer, and I'd also like to see Shep's rig!!! I love Nottingham, spent 3 years studying there and now off on a Stag Night there in a few weeks. If we have a spare weekend coming up ill let you know, but I appreciate the offer! Luckily, things are working out better than I thought so we are moving, and its very soon! But, the law firm I am training with in August have agreed to take me on at a lower level now to get to know the firm and how they work before my trainee solicitor contract starts. It took some work to get the funds together to go this quickly, and a lot of journeys up to Newcastle, but we are almost ready to go! Thanks all. Synth is still something I want to try out once I've settled in my role up in Newcastle.

I've no doubt about that, I just think they had a good product considering price/weight/size with the 500W Promethean. Now, well, they haven't. GK will take the crown for the tiny low powered amp with the MB200, which is now being manufactured in the USA instead of being outsourced.
-
I think all manufacturers will have QC problems, but the all tube Orange heads and the big cabs are seriously strong bits of kit, and are very heavy to lift! The TH500 is a simply marvelous lower priced AD200b, and its light. I don't have one, but I am always tempted to pick one up. The TB500 is VERY loud. Unless you are powering a very 'watt hungry' cabinet with low sensitivity the 500 is more than enough.
-
What a crazy idea. They should have just carried on.
-
Im pretty sure my Ray 5 HS and Sterling 5 HS are no more than about 9lbs. Maybe less. They both seems very light, especially the Ray as its such a big body!

Some basses are only really ever out on loan!
I now understand the phrase "ooh it's grim up north"
Haha! I love the north! Cold, but friendly. Well, not always cold. -
They do tend to make a lot of vapourware products that never seem to come to light, just a demo at a show. But, I'd like to see these actually made, as they are very refreshing.
