I still want to try one ASAP.
I still need to go over to Grand Wazoo's house and try his one but there is something Apple about them, a kind of pious attitude about those who don't use them that really puts me off.
Even though I like iPhone's and iPod's, I agree with what you are saying. Its nothing against the instrument or Dingwall, its just something I 'get' from reading about them. More so with Fodera.
Doesn't look as nice as the 5
+1....aesthetically it doesn't have the same 'wow' factor as the 5. Nice though.
I think if you are ordering a custom build, the wait comes with it, plus you get something exactly made to your spec. How many say they have had to send theirs back due to fit and finish problems? How long did you have to wait for that infamous Ray? At these prices, its got to be worth it! Need to get my arse in gear and mail Jon
Haha, the Ray...well, it was probably two months over 'normal' order time. Why you ask? The store didn't order it, even though I paid in full. I then chased it, and then eventually it was ordered. The one I got first was a bodge odd neck with odd body, the one I have now (which was the one I actually ordered) is perfect. I get what you mean though! I'd love to see what Shuker can do P bass wise. Maybe a P Retro P bass, 4 string, surf green, rosewood, blocks and binding. Chrome hardware!
-
If Shuker had P basses ready in 3 months, with a normal spec, and with the Shuker hardcase for £1200, I'd have one. How much are they?! The rough shop price of these new Fenders (2012-) is only about £50 more than the last price, so not as bad as I expected, but basically the new pup on the basses is a very strange 'upgrade'.
-
Love how GuitarGuitar have only dropped the basses by £50...tight!
-
At the silly low price, I think im gonna pick one up. I was looking at the Genz combos but this is £550 ish less!
-
That new colour isn't what I was expecting. They should have brought some pastels into the scheme like surf green and sonic blue. I personally think the 'new pickup' is probably worth no more, but they jacked the prices to make more money. I never paid nowhere near the previous prices, or these new ones, and mine are a 2009 and 2011.
-
I think at this price, they have just taken a huge chunk of the market...its almost a 1/3 less than similar combos from MB/GB, and its cheaper than the Promethean! http://www.dv247.com/guitars/tc-electronic-bg250-bass-guitar-amp-combo--96671

Fender have upgraded the American Standards with a Custom Shop 60s pickups, apparently. A new colour, Jade Pearl Metallic, has also been announced. Probably be a huge price increase as well. Now this is also related to their guitars, but my friend who plays electric guitar professionally (in a huge Coldplay tribute band) has a Roadworn Telecaster, and my word, its LOOKS brilliant, but the feel and tone are just brilliant. I know they are a controversial line of instruments, but I've played the Jazz recently and I still want one. I don't need one, but they really do seem to 'work' like a cheaper custom shop!

Flatwounds and 'The Mix'. Is it just me, or....
Musicman20 replied to wateroftyne's topic in General Discussion
Before I quit the band (now Im moving), we did our own sound. Now, the band was only 3 members, so acoustic guitar/vocals, bass/vocals, drums/vocals. That's it. Working that sound is SO easy its ridiculous. On the occasion we have hired/the organiser has hired a sound engineer, (three times out of thirty-forty gigs) he was absolutely brilliant. I don't think I've ever worked with such a good sound engineer, and he works all over Europe for large shows, so I really appreciated him. The sound engineer only ever worked with us when I used a P bass, and it was with nickels/fingerstyle for the whole gig. I used rented backline, and I just turned up, plugged in, soundchecked, played. Barely any EQ'ing from the amp. IMO, a P bass sounds like a P bass, and it just works. Yes, you can totally change it from the The Stranglers grindy mid tone with a pick to a more subdued fingerfunk tone in a few seconds, but its still a P. I'm guessing you have much more experience with live work, P's and flats as well compared to me, but I think I have been lucky in the past year as things have just worked. Strangely enough, more recently I've realised what I really care about is the audience having a good time, so I've tended to be less picky than some might think I am when it comes to live sound. For our last 4 or 5 gigs, I strung my Stingray with flats. Its a 3EQ, but to me, I still sound like me no matter what I do. Flats/rounds, whatever. The flats do seem to have a tiny bit more 'ommphh' to them, but maybe that is just my imagination. Every gig it has just nailed it. I'm probably also lucky that we only had three members, and we all just wanted to enjoy it and get a good 'band sound', instead of individual parts. -
I think you need to adopt a policy I told my mate to use, MM20, as he always seemed to have bad luck when buying things: Take the item to the counter, pay for it, then, once you`ve been handed the receipt, hand the item and receipt back, and say you`d like to exchange it for one that works/is not damaged. Just change it to work with on-line orders - once the order is placed, e-mail them and state you want the original one they intend to send you exchanging for another identical one. It would cut out all the frustration of getting it delivered, only to have to send it back!
Ah! Good idea.
Gareth you and your bad luck! You seem to have a sad story about ANY brand you've ever bought, are you jinxed? haha! I kind of figure you as the Victor Meldrew of bass! (affectionately though) I see you opening a new bass and going "I don't belieeeeeeeve it!" lol
Haha! You and me both! I having a break from gear so im hoping when I start looking again my luck will have changed.

As much as I have heard good stories about Proel, and it seems you struck a chord with them GW, I had a less than impressive experience with them which did put me off Markbass as a whole, (which it shouldn't have). Markbass amps are, less face it, not cheap, and I felt like I had no way of getting help with my amp. For the record, it was a brand new LM3, and the plug has been placed next the amp in packing without any packing material, and it had taken a nasty piece of paint right off it. All I wanted was a swap for a new amp, but they didn't respond to emails and wouldn't deal with me over the phone. In the end the retailer helped me out and let me have my money back. I still want a nice super clean flat amp but this put me off Markbass. I might give them another try down the line if they reduce prices on the F500. Good of you to put the update though Fran Should be helpful to owners.
At least you were told the chords just before.
I know...

Last night I gigged two songs with some fantastic musicians. Exceptional drummer and guitarist, and they LOVE the bass guitar. Very rare for a guitarist! The bass mix in their band is brilliant. Anyway, the first song I've played before, but not with them properly. It went totally fine, just a different key than I'm used to. The second song, easy song when you listen to it, but when you've had a few drinks and its not your gig, its always fun to try and play it when you are only told the chords 20 seconds before you play it. The brilliant art of blagging. It worked anyway, and sounded great. I'm not trained in theory/sight reading, but I 'know' what to play as Im sure most of us do. I'm not anywhere close to how great the jazz musicians are who are trained and know what to do, but it was a great feeling.
Been through loads, currently have ampeg pf gear, I only need a light rig for functions etc, but you do miss the presence that even just one of these cabs has on its own, as I said nothing can compare. Think my last cab went on here about 2 years ago, it was just sitting in storage, should have kept as may regret in future Saw a band recently where the guy used this full rig (wasn't you was it ) , amazing
Have to agree. They are massive heavy amps and cabs, but...and this is a big but, the sounds is just immense. I barely gig with mine but I can't think about selling it.
"Blood Orange" Rig, another OBC115 to be added soon!
Stunning!
Tecamp Puma?
I'd love one of the new 1U 900 Watt Puma's, but the price is quite high...and I've not seen them in the UK.
-
I don't really want a super clean sound, I like a bit of grit.
Ah, the 500 would be perfect then !

I've seen Musicman basses in general go for a fairly high amount on ebay and the Musicman forums. More so the rarer models. I don't plan on selling any so I don't pay attention to the value secondhand. I think if someone is looking for 'that' bass, £850-£900 for a very very immaculate Stingray in say, Natural, is actually quite fair. It depends on the condition. I've seen a Bongo 5 HH go for £1200-1300 when they are only £1400 new. It just seems on Basschat the 'Basschat Market' is a little tougher.
