1. That is super cheap! Great amp. Superb value!
2. Crazy technology....I like!
3. Total bargain. If I get in a band thats low volume I might pick one up.
4. I trust Paul's comment as he can play both very well. I've noticed it. Not massively, but it's there. His comment on Ray 5ers is interesting, stating he thinks they got it right as the scale/construction makes it pretty much evenly toned all over. Unlike some 5ers which have massive low Bs.
5. Wowzers! What a price. The best, IMO, 2x12 out there.
6. Beautiful bass....if it was one month down the line I would have had it straight away. GAHHHH!
7. Its upto you...the pics to me show its pretty much Fender average. But, it might look worse in the flesh.
8. Depends how big the neck pocket is. I've had some HUGE ones from American Standards (2008 onwards models) and sent them all back. If its just a very very small gap, maybe you'd find the next one would be worse? Actually, it doesn't matter. If you aren't happy, send it back. Make them pick it up as well.
9. Getting back to you
10. 15s can indeed be very ric and punchy. No doubt about it. I know the science behind speakers/cabinets can often throw a spanner in the works, but if its the same manufacturer, and they are clearly meant to 'fit' together, they manufacturer normally makes it so they balance well. I have, however, never heard a 1x15 that has the upper midrange and treble punch like a 2x10, and I've tried the BF Compact. That could be due to anything though. My ears are the best judge for me.
11. I'd sell privately. The only time I've had 'good' trade ins was when I traded in a secondhand Jackson Guitar (ewww...metal) for £250 and it cost me less than that. I did a few trades with the Bass Merchant and because I bought a LOT of stuff I got good deals. Otherwise, avoid.
12. Hi Alan Let me know if you consider splitting the rig (interested in the two AE112s).
13. It's not always a con. Some highly regarded manufacturers, including the really techy ones like Barefaced, promote mixed speaker sizes if it's designed correctly.
14. Hmm...I wonder what a 'safe' way is to get this to Newcastle?
15. I imagine a Genz Streamliner or Ampeg Pro 7 would really push these new modern cabs.
16.
It's some new limited run, basically a classic series with a 3 band and horrible hardware. Or you could get a early 90's Ray for around 1/4 of that price....
It's a 2 band with push/pull passive/active and a tone control. On the specialist forums (eg EBMM) all the basses and guitars hold value, especially the limited runs like dargie. Had a few 90s Rays. They were fantastic, but so are my current 2011 models.
17. Love it. Can't afford it.
18. I bet it would sound brilliant!
19. The PF500 has known problems with the limiter....I've heard YouTube clips of it clamping down and turning the bass tone into the sound of an amp clipping hard.
20.
LOL, its just struck me, most of that old stock probably belonged to Gareth at some point ;-)
If its a Musicman or Fender, probably!
21. Oh, and can you still get Aguilar gear?
22. I'm quite glad its still going, and what the old BM did lack was a decent upto date website. I will however miss the old showroom. I first went there when I was thinking of moving to London (couldn't have been more opposite; I found myself more comfortable in Newcastle) and we took a detour as I wanted to test Markbass gear. Not only did I get very good service, I also got to try Aguilar cabs (and the DB112/212 are STILL the best cabinets I've heard so far). It was a VERY fun shop, and I went back 2-3 times. Then, I started to buy everything over the phone. I had some hiccups, but Darren was true to his word and everything was ironed out before the store closed down. A big shame, because I did trust the BM, and the prices were VERY low if you bought a few things at once. BD has an awesome way of updating stock. Any specialist wanting to compete bass-wise needs to at least match BD's site.
23. I've never tried one but I saw one for the first time in Soundslive last week. Wow, I didn't realise how small they had made it. It was, im sure, the 500 as well. Nice aesthetics. For me, If I went Ampeg, it would be the 7 Pro which is supposed to be their decent high powered close-to-SVT-tone Class D amp.
24.
I heard a rumour that angels gather and dance to the harmonic overtones when an AD 200B is paired with it, too........
I'd love to try it with my AD200b! Or any of my amps, come to think of it.
