When you're skint there's always Westone. Plenty of them still about from 82

The fella got back to me earlier to confirm it was carbon in the neck not steel. Unless there's a sudden upsurge in folks smashing up HB's and J&D's we'll never know just how common the carbon bars are.
-
I appreciate you want to cover costs. As a sale is being discussed I'll say no more

£650 is a helluva high price. Further down the page a fella's asking £450 for his maple board T40. 2 months now,not one offer.

More flats from Dan. EB Cobalts this time. Posted yesterday, arrived this morning. Great fella to deal with

Guitar player flitted between being "born again" and white rasta. Drummer went for Satan or Nergal depending what phase the guitar player was in The stoned 6 stringer's endless "It's Babylon Maaan !! " started getting on my wick, even through the alcohol shield. Me and the drummer quit and hooked up with an old jazz sax player, very hip old guy who heard voices

I like the gestation time idea, fit right in with my 68 Wilson Sapphire.
Interesting. I'm amazed they don't advertise the fact if it is true, as it would be a great sales point. There obviously is some sort of rod there. Might not be carbon though. Steel is the other obvious possibility. Is there a thread on TB about it then ?
There's not a specific thread, the fella posted in the HB owners club a while back saying he'd went for maple as CITES stopped him going rosewood,When it arrived he'd stripped the head on a screw,it was bought as a modding platform, had a bi-polar rage attack and smashed it up. Poor bugger did damage to his house too during the event.I think it took guts to post saying he now wouldn't be modding it and why. Carbon Vs Steel ? Stainless Steel would add 5oz to the neck,Carbon just over 1oz,mild steel over 9oz R/C Model car & plane shops sell carbon strips for £7,the Metal store wants £9 for steel. If carbon's £7 in a shop then long term buying for 100's of neck would maybe add £2 per neck.I'll send the fella a message asking him whether carbon or steel.

Paul I've noticed changes to the HB Jazz bass shape, closer to the J&D, in the last year so there's a good chance both share the same factory. The differences will come down to the set build price of each brand.

Where do people get these prices from?
kodiakblair replied to Roger2611's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Meddle's right about the Reverb thing but Reverb mainly carries ads for American shops and no American would ever dream of just paying the asking price on used goods, unless it was extremely low.Hell even on new stuff they want to haggle. Reverb prices are sky high to reflect this, and so the buyer can "cut a deal" and feel proud of his hardened business skills. -
Fella in the States posted a photo of the Benton JB-75 he'd smashed up,has some mental issues and wasn't taking his meds. Photo shows what appear to be carbon rods either side of the TR. If they are carbon rods then my guess is they're insurance against wobbly necks. The factory will be producing 100's if not 1000's of necks so rods make sense if a batch of improperly seasoned timber gets used. What do you folks think ? One's obviously the skunk stripe but what could the other be if not a carbon rod. I'd imagine if rods are in Bentons then they'll be in J&D as well, same serial number system have been spotted on both HB and J&D.

Why didn't they chamber out the back if they wanted it lighter.

No complaints with the Polish fella who delivers round our way. He's round the same time every day and chaps the neighbour's doors to see if anybody will take your parcel before using the card option. Always cheery too

Too late brother. 2nd bass it's been in
Might be be but I would of thought if it was a bad ground it would not work at all or be very crackly and intermittent I think it is a bad pot mate
I think I'll take that a stage further an say the whole thing is shot Volume pot don't respond nor do either of the tone pots. Blend seems to be acting like a volume pot, roll it back and I'm getting almost zero volume. Go past the centre dent an I'm jumping to turn the amp down
-
I've stuck the Artec SE-2 in another bass but encounter a strange problem. The volume pot doesn't work, the bass plays and the blend works fine but I can't turn down the volume. Any ideas folks ? Wasn't the best solder joint on the volume ground, could that be the issue ? Cheers KB

Probably the final Peavey bass day too.Think I have an example of every USA model, looking through the Peavey range there's only variations on the Axcelerator like the Forum AX and Cyberbass missing,no interest in the Jack Daniels collectors item either. It's the Randy Jackson sig model from 91 in redburst. Through neck very like the Unity with 40mm nut,3 band EQ. The mids can be altered by 8 dip switches on the PCB,not the best place but it's quite an old bass. It's also not an easy bass to find, this was my fourth attempt It arrived after a 10,500 mile trip from Portland,Oregon in great shape with a lovely setup. A quick tune up and I stuck on the old punk tunes, both the bass and the tunes were easy played Don't think the D-Tuner will see much use but handy to have. The guitar shop kindly put a copy Vintage Guitar featuring the RJ-IV in the case, don't know if they do that with all their sales but a great wee touch from Centaur Guitar. Another very nice ( discontinued ) Peavey

fleabag Peavey UK got closed back in 2014

Good afternoon FlatEric I'm afraid it was just tried on for size but I think the saddle springs will need removed putting a 40 on a 45. edit Scratch that idea, I'm talking out my A***e. Forgot to check the string ferrules. Can't see there being enough play. Sorry to have raised your hopes

Hard to say ProfJames. Cirrus was top of the range,35" scale active. Koa Untiy was 34" scale passive and is 10 years older. Healthy interest in the USA regarding Cirrus, the Unity interest is really only with folks who regret selling theirs years back. That's the current Peavey market, a whole bunch of 40-50 year olds buying old basses they remember from years before. Both are really nice basses but different animals. Sorry I can't advise better.

First thing I've got to make clear. Buying on Reverb is like buying in the souk, haggling it the order of the day. "Cutting a deal" is part of American culture so keep that in mind. Nobody should ever pay the asking price nor take it as an items worth. My opinion, based on the number of Peavey folk I keep in contact with,is the T45 is no where near as popular as the T40. There's just less made. It's a mass produced item so claims of them being "rare" are BS. T45 are 21 fret and yes you can swap necks with a T40. There's enough play on the bridge saddles. Even though they are CNC built ,I've saw tolerances vary by up to 1.6mm. Koa is a Hawaiian hard wood used on some Unitys, the RJ-IV deluxe and the RSB Koa. Might one or 2 others. Some eejit tried a thumb rest on the GC one so there's holes by both pickups. £645 is nuts. So far this year the 4 folk I know who bought Dyna/Unity basses none paid more than $450. Christ my friend Ronnie got his Koa Dyna/Unity last week for $375 delivered. Don't believe Reverb asking prices, it's pie in the sky stuff.
Having the choice is nice. It's like your local takeaway only having the one dish you usually order. Sometimes you want a hoagie instead of a calzone. Hungry now..
Not sure they know what a hoagie in England but I did tell Les for the kebab guide

I loved having one bass, didn't matter what that one bass was I just played it.

Nor should you be. They get loads of credit for their customer care yet here they are letting you down badly.
