  1. The Roswell gold foil has an alnico bar instead of slugs. The bar spans 56mm, slightly longer than the centres between poles on a jazz bass bridge position, you could fit them at bridge or neck positions without any issues.
  2. Or would happily stick on social media as an example of their skills. Send the thing back.
  3. That's the route I took. Got a Thomann Rockabilly, black with white pinstripe, from a lad on here for £190 🙂 When first bought he'd took it to some DB place to check the setup but fella there looked it over then asked, in a puzzled tone, "Just what do you think is wrong with it ?". Relieved that the big T folk knew their stuff, Thomann don't ship their uprights without doing a set up first, it was happily gigged for several years. The thumpy thump served me well before I caved to pressure and sold it to another lad about 4 years back. It's still going strong 😎
  4. Did it also have microphonic pickups ? If yes then it was an exact replica. Have a hazy memory John Hall was retired by then and his laddie was responsible. Course John's earlier behaviour did him no favours so he'd automatically cop the blame.
  5. Attention to detail ? Google search "Rickenbacker Bass poor finish issues" came back with 132,000 hits 🤣
  6. Can't see them getting even close to those 😀 Sold my Sarzo a few years back , got £500 and that was from someone actively seeking Sarzo 😀 Pink burst RJ-IV was another "actively seeking" sale, even specified the colour. Sold to a German fella in Feb this year. Got £400 and Virgin Money snatched £10 for accepting a £ sterling payment from a German bank 🤬 Final kick in the spuds as I was £600+ buying it from the US. I love this line from the Sarzo blurb "2 humbucker size pickups, inspired in the Alembic pickups" Peavey took old T-40 blades, magnets, spacers and bobbins from a dusty shelf in the stores and had a fella make the Sarzo pickups from them 🤣
  7. Mainly that's because faithful renditions are what sells or at least gets them noticed. Give folk a familiar design but with a fancy finish and souped up hardware, they spot what changes you've made easily enough. Original designs tend to confuse rather than attract. Patrice Vigier thinks it took 20 years before he sold one of his fretless guitars, Torzal still appear in "WTF is that ?". A recent WTF which made me smile was some Who fan in Australia deriding a Buzzard Bass.
  8. You'll have heard of Mayones though, Fame is their more budget friendly line and only sold through DV24/7 😎 My pal John has played a Fame Baphomet for a good few year now, swears by it 👍
  9. Not likely, post from an employee after today's meeting. "Latest update on TGP: I'm sad to say it's true. I just got back from my "meeting". I was told they are winding down the company and letting go of all the employees. They dodged the Fender question so i'm assuming they bought it. 33 years of doing the right thing and the rug gets yanked out from underneath you. It's hard to take, but thankful for those years."
  10. Not half. Did you the one where some arse said he was regretting not buying one 25 years, even though the shop manager told they were built by the Fender brothers George and Leo 🤣🤣🤣 Way I see things G&L struggled because A. they concentrated mostly on the US market. B. they traded on myths centred around an old guy who died in his 80's 30 odd years back. Sad though if they wind up down the tubes as they paid the best money. Their hourly rate was $19.50, pish when compared to the In 'n' Out burger chain's $21ph starting rate but better than the $16 Ernie Ball pays or the $18 you get at Fender Corona.
  11. Not only does Mr Hall reside in the UK, he resides in Wales; same the lad asking how to contact HW.
  12. I owned a wee J&D P-bass for a while. Was a cracking wee thing 😎 Maple/Rosewood neck. Alder body so pretty light. Think the pickup was ceramic, bright and lively. Never had any issue with hardware. Thought it was a bargain at £104. Great if black/tort is your taste 👍 I'm afraid the gap between owning my PB-20 and the J&D shorty was too long for an honest comparison.
  13. Thanks for putting me in the picture folks 👍
  14. Just curious. Was killing time at used basses and a fairly large number carried BIN prices of £208.68. On a second look it appears prices ending with .68 or with an '8' in general are just as common. Anyone an idea why ?
  15. Always thought I'd buy one but none ever appeared local 😞 It's a pretty looking thing. Some folks would go daft, imagining pickup and preamp swaps. I wouldn't bother with any of that, just get it playing nicely in the hand and let a cheap EQ pedal handle the tone 👍
  16. @rmpn1985 It's my pleasure. Please check your message box, I will post links to hardware there 😎
  17. Peavey did plenty of PJ/jazz neck models. B-90 is the blue one. Foundation S black on the right 2nd photo. 3rd photo DynaBass black on left, Unity red on the right. Zodiac DE Scorpio l & R 4th photo. You could buy all 6 for under £1400 🙂
  18. Those are the original pickups. As I said in my last post, Peavey made two versions of the TL-5. Version 1 was built from 1986 to 1990, had small passive pickups, a different preamp and a Schaller 3D bridge. The bass you own is a Version 2, built from 1991 to 1996.
  19. Sadly no. 13 year clean and sober, only excuse I have for the myriad of mistakes I make daily is I'm thick 😬
  20. Glad to hear that, thought my memory was failing me 🙂
  21. F*** me, did you really gibber as much shite as that eejit ?
  22. How tiny ? You can get 100 of these eye liner brushes from Amazon for £3.70.
  23. Got some baby jiffy bags here so I'll get the Colron away to you ASAP 👍
  24. Champion. I'll hunt for a slim plastic bottle, whisky miniature/hotel shampoo type. Being bald and teetotal this might take some serious hunting 😆 You still at the address I sent the Herrick to ?
