  1. Plus one for Furch/Stonebridge quality. Really nice, good playing guitars!
  2. My MarkBass combo drives effects very hard in the loop, causing distortion with some FX, even when jumpered internally to parallel. I reverted to using them in front.
  3. There’s gonna be a run on Sterlings now, you mark my words.
  4. Yep, but I see the Ray 34's don't have the body carves. Do you know how they feel to play? I must say, the EBMM/SBMM/ Sterling nomenclature is really confusing!
  5. How do you find the different neck feel? I fancy a Ray or a Ray 34 but I don't like big feeling necks. The Sterlings with the 38mm nut catch my eye, but as the OP says, there don't seem to be that many about.
  6. What other devices are required to control this unit and make it go bleep bleep?
  7. I have heard that you can tap the individual pole pieces with a suitable blunt instrument, and that they will slide up or down in the pickup body.
  8. Crikey! Do they wrap the back too?
  9. Yes, the width of the 210 style is a slight problem, so I get what you’re saying about a taller and narrower enclosure. That is why I am sometimes tempted in exactly the way that you are. The tilt back feature of the combo is what keeps me hanging on! Very useful in so many stage situations.
  10. CMD 102p combo here. Very loud and punchy, lightweight, easy to dial on. I keep thinking I should get an extension cab, so that I look and feel more manly, but this thing does everything I need.
  11. Wow! I don’t normally like Alembic style basses, but that is bonny!
  12. Dave just sent me some Ray parts, free in return for a donation to my favourite charity. Incredibly generous, and posted in military spec packaging! Dave is a true gent! Thanks bro!
  13. I had a Sessionette guitar amp. It was a sturdy wee brute, and sounded good. It was a bit beamy, due to the small cabinet.
  14. Yep, I bet it will sound great, but too expensive for me, but I’m cheap, as you know.
  15. Try reading Elegant Hipsters, Fagen’s autobiography. He is painfully honest about his character and his world view, and his defence, which was to adopt a cynical and ironic distancing style. I feel the songs capture and express this very well. To my mind, he found a match in Walter Becker, and between them they confected the Dan sound from their deep affection for American music, which arises from colossally dysfunctional American culture. For me there is a very powerful effect created by this queasy juxtaposition of The Great American Songbook and existential dread. He articulates all of this better than I can in his book, which is well worth a read.
  16. Sounds good to me! Headstock shapes should be altered by tinkerers so your good name will not be soiled. any idea how much you would want for them?
