  1. Vast and bulbous. Actually, I think it would look fine if you just straighten the lower edge so that it is a bit more parallel to the top edge, where the tuners will be. Check James Trussart's website for his lovely steel bodied Teles. They have a headstock shape that is just slightly Stratty. Very nicely proportioned.
  2. Let us see what the headstock looks like naked, first of all, then we can hose you down with ideas.
  3. Cripes, that drawing must be worth about a million quid then.
  4. You lucky bugger! I used to lust after one of these, in a music shop in Torquay in the early eighties. Too expensive for me then. Congratulations!
  5. Bruce Johnson on Talkbass has a thread on milling out a skunk stripe on a Stingray (I think) to replace a snapped truss rod. He used a giant vintage milling machine and nerves of steel. I don’t think Stew, or indeed any of us, would manage this task. What a great thread! Stew, I’ve got a feeling you’re going to make this happen!
  6. Hi Stew, do you mean the slot is straight bottomed until it gets near the heel?
  7. I imagine it is now possible to determine how much wood is left under the truss rod channel, by measuring the depth of the channel at the deepest point, somewhere towards the middle of the neck (with the rod removed). Measure the overall thickness of the neck (minus the fingerboard now) and subtract one measurement from the other. That should help to tell how how risky the adoption of a double action rod would be. Personally, I guess you haven't got enough depth for a double action rod.
  8. Impeccable views on tort, Stew, which I heartily endorse.
  9. I’ve got two Chinese cheapie Jazz necks. They are absolutely fine, apart from their wonky potato shaped headstocks. Must get busy on those soon.
  10. Stew, that is an excellent piece of work. You should be very proud. I bloody told ya! You’ll be setting up in business next: fretboard removals to the gentry.
  11. Just bought Paul’s EBS Session 60 from him. Great price, great comms, super fast delivery, and secure packaging that could possibly defeat a SEAL team. Luckily I had my Global bread knife to hand! A pleasure doing business with you, Paul.
  12. Wow, very nice. I fancy that!
  13. James Tyler made Strat types that were hybrid Variax equipped. Might be some stuff on the internet about his implementation.
  14. Is there room for a long slotted port in the front, below the baffle?
  15. Sounds punchy on all settings. J neck soloed maybe not so much, but all tasty. Good work! Colour me jealous.
  16. Pull yourself together, man! Get an iron, and a sturdy British made paint spatula, and have at that fingerboard. Heat her up and prise her off! Then, in with the new truss rod. Think of the sense of achievement and your modest display of British pluck! Should only take you about a week.
  17. I find having a sub makes all the difference. Without one, I would rather just use headphones. As pointed out above, studio monitors can be brutal, and headphones are a bit more forgiving.
