  1. Nice work on the neck carve! I’ve just thicknessed a blank using a 25mm diameter router planer bit. I screwed flat straight timber battens directly to the long sides of the blank to make a bearing sled (see my MaybeRay build thread). The planer bit made short work of thicknessing the blank, so I heartily recommend acquiring one.
  2. Try Stewart Ward (Award Session) for cables. Any combo you like.
  3. Well, the trend template bit arrived yesterday. I am not allowed to make any noise, so progress is slow. But under Frankie's supervision it all went well. I did a test cut with the new bit and the neck pocket template. Very satisfactory. I didn't relieve the pocket since I was not going all the way down, just used the cutter from the free edge of the wood. I am considering a book matched cap. Can anyone advise on a reliable source? BTW the butt of the neck is a slightly different shape and width from the template, so I will final shape the butt, and I will have to reposition the template for the cutaway side.
  4. I think it’s one of those expensive torrefied finishes. And it’s very definitely finished..
  5. Sorry to hear you’re struggling, Stew. Look after yourself.
  6. That could be tricky. I would use a router and a template.
  7. No, we actually talk to each other like that. Dave is channelling Doric Scots, and I’m channelling my maternal grandmother, who spoke an Ayrshire dialect. be fun to try Google Translate on it, though. Thanks for your encouragement, I’ve been meaning to get this going for a while!
  8. Trend top bearing template bit ordered this evening. Can’t wait!
  9. Nice score, Dave! I know you had the hots for one.
  10. Had one of these. Great amp. I got more compliments on my sound using this than any other guitar amp.
  11. Not much progress since the last post. Took off the sled and checked the slab for flatness. Pretty good. I will sand to final thickness. I spent this afternoon anxiously measuring and re-measuring to align the neck, so I could locate and draw out the neck pocket. I was set to rout it (before cutting out the body outline) when I realised my trimmer bit had the bearing at the bottom, not the top. Gah! I’m going back online to buy a top bearing bit, which will take a while to arrive.
  12. Liberon Finishing Oil is very easy to use. It was recommended to me by a Well respected local maker of classical guitars. It is really a varnish which is applied With a rag or paper towel in as many thin coats as you need. I refinished a maple Jazz Bass neck with it recently and it looks and feels great. Previous experience includes refinishing a Tacoma koa acoustic guitar, which I gave about thirty coats. It will get glossy with a sufficient number of build coats, or semi matte with two or three coats. Leaving a maple neck in a sunny but not too hot area will cause the wood to darken, which might help you to get the results you seek.
  13. Aye well, Dave, ah like take think afore ah dae onything. Ah’m no’ Speedy Gonzales at the best o’ times. Ah cannae even find ma baffies. Anyhoo, it’s a’ stracht furnent if the rain keeps aff. Ah dinnae want tae get drookit, ken!
  14. Guitar with provenance! About thirty five years ago, like an idiot, I sold Graeme my old Epiphone Casino. He still has it, I believe.

  16. Late 2013 iMac i5/2.7ghz/16gb RAM here. I fitted a 1TB SSD earlier this year with very little difficulty. Unbelievable improvements in boot time and performance. I wouldn’t want to try to upgrade the RAM, though. Helluva job.
