1. I think BP gave a hint somewhere that it might have 3 single pups instead of a humbucker (a bit like the sterling prototype).
2.
I'll give you a pound for it.
I'll raise that offer with an elastic band, a tooth pick and a piece of carpet that was never owned by any of the beatles.
3. My favourite shapes at the moment are the Status S1 (because I recently got one and love it), Fender Jazz (prefer it to the precision)and Musicman Stingray (prefer it to the sterling or bongo).

5. Thanks Jim, i've hardly put it down since I got home. Getting used to fretless has been much easier than I thought. It's great to finally be part of the Status club! Cheers, Mat
6. I've bought from playback and had no problems. That G&L seems a decent price.
7. I tried out a fretless Rockbass a couple of weeks ago and was blown away by how lovely, warm and full it sounded. Plenty of fretless mmwah to keep me happy. It truly was a great sounding bass, however I couldn't see past the dodgy logo and less than desirable finish.
8. Yeah, the grain of the fingerboard looks amazing. And the dark and light wood to fill the fret gaps is pretty sweet too. Ok, the finish isn't perfect, but as a whole it's coming along quite nicely.
9. This is soooooo tempting. I love this kinda stuff but I need to hold money back for a fretless.
10. Anyone got an idea how much it would cost or if it is indeed possible to defret a graphite neck?
11. If that was fretless i'd have it off you in a second.
12. Wire wool? Not sure if its the effect you want but it takes away the shinyness.
13. Here's a couple of his from the for sale thread (the first is the stingray): http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=cairnes http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=cairnes
14. Nice to see this coming along at last. Make sure to post it on EB forums when your done.
15. Nice pics Zak. Didn't realise your fretless had the flea bridge. No photos of the birdseye neck?

17. Ideally trade for something fretless but as i've said, anything considered. Will also consider trades on amps/cabs.
18. Subliminal Message: Get a Stingray 5... ...or a Sterling 5... ...they're awesome.
19. Same year as my Ray, it's really a beautiful thing. If it had a maple board i'd consider selling mine to get hold of yours. I really believe the late 80s and early 90s was a golden era for musicman, and the 2 band preamp offers a lovely earthy aggressive sound. £750 is a good price for such a brilliant and beautiful instrument. Good luck with the sale. p.s. it would be nice with a white pickguard as well.
20. I don't like the look of those round bridges.
21. Is this still about? I'd definately be interested in taking this off your hands.
22.
any suggestions for something that may work well with fretless?
What you could do is instead of having a jazz neck and bridge pickups, you could not put in the neck pickup and have a piezo bridge instead. It's just an idea but it would save having to route the neck pup and also piezo bridges often sound good with fretless.
23.
As far as I know, the 5 has a wider neck. Also.... The 5 string bridge is (1 saddle) wider. Genuine Musicman bridges are virtually impossible to come by. The pick-ups have 5 poles (x2) The string alignment would be completely out, and would yield (at best) unreliable results. It'd be easier to get a Stingray 4 or Sterling and get a luthier to attack it with draw knives, spoke shaves and router until it resembled a5 What is it that you like about the 5?
Not sure the 5 string pickup would be such a problem. This bass, hand built by Leo Fender and now owned by Sterling Ball aparrently works fine: However I do agree this 5 to 4 string project is too much work and shouldn't be done with such a nice, not to mention expensive bass. I would recommend buying a Musicman SUB, putting in SR5 style contours and refinishing it. Or just find a bass you love and leave it as is.
24. I've had a similar experience at the Bass Cellar, the people were a bit touchy about trying out the basses and were constantly keeping an eye on me. It's a shame the customer care was so poor because their stoock was actually very good. However on the same day I visited about 20 other music shops in London (...I know) and generally people were really nice. In one shop, I think it was Wunjo Guitars, as soon as I looked at an old 60s jazz bass, the guy asked me if I wanted to try it out and what I wanted to plug it into. I ended up playing that bass for about 20 minutes and then I moved onto playing a old ric (they didn't stock EBMM). The weird thing is, a few minutes later a guy came in and bought both basses while I was still playing them. Each bass was priced around £2000 so can't have been short of cash to buy £4000 worth of basses without even trying them. Anyway i'd recommend Wunjo Guitars. As far as I can recall, Bass Centre was pretty cool too, happy for you to try out anything at your leisure. There was a couple of other shops with really good service but I can't remember the names. Sadly the Bass Cellar was probably one least friendly shops I visited that day.
