1. I play mostly jazz and Latin standards usually with a drummer. Occasionally we rehearse and do the odd show without the drummer. I do find it a challenge without, to be honest. Any tips for surviving this? I do wish the horn section tried to contribute to the groove when not soloing or playing the tune. Or is it all my responsibility?
2. Saw the Cardiff show. Enjoyed it. Jon was really strong, he just makes me smile with his flashing LED boots, permanent look of joy, he embodies Yes. Blew all the stand-ins away. I thought Rabin was poor, none of Howe's subtlety . He and Wakeman seemed under rehearsed. It was the first show of the European leg. Pomeroy and the drummer seemed to be leading Rabin and Wakeman. They were very well received with a standing ovation after Awaken. Glad I went after much prevarication.

5. It was pretty big when I went there 5 years ago, with a good selection then. Spent a morning trying all sorts of stuff. Let me try anything, no hard sell. Came away with a UV70. IIRC Parking seemed easy enough.
6. For all those who missed the first "bus".
7. No. 1, and the first time I noticed bass, and why I play bass...Chris Squire.

9. Big time! I've been playing catchup over the last few weeks. Eagerly await each new release. It has got me really motivated and inspired to practise a lot more and in different ways. My looper and Flashback are getting a lot of use
10. As many have already said, when you only have a few carefully selected albums on vinyl, and John Peel, then they get listened to properly, you exist with them rather than having them. It's when I hear the opening of the next track in my head as the previous one is finishing. Mine are pretty much anything I bought before 1982, including: Diamond Dogs and Ziggy Stardust, Bowie Sheer Heart Attack, Queen Fragile, Yes Quiet Life, Japan Hejira, Joni Mitchell Fear of Music, Talking Heads Playing the Fool, Gentle Giant
11. Fretless 6er, possibly Mayones.
12. Thanks for sharing. Truly wondrous, uplifting, emotional. Made me hear this song all anew. I could fill a posting with superlatives. Got to love old Jon. An honest and innocent performer and human being.
13. Lovely. I have a 6 string Comodous with Barts and piezo and agree with it being the best made bass I have owned or played, with a great range of tones, which all work. GLWTS.
14.
Natural UV70's are great funk basses - they just nail that sound perfectly and the natural finish adds a really authentic late 70's vibe
Have the same bass and it is no. 1 gigging bass. One thing, though, I usually mix both pups, but if I favour the bridge it gets quite thin, loses bass and mids and I have to compensate with amp EQ. It is slightly better in passive, but the VTC is a subtle beast, so wondering if I am doing something wrong.
15.
I always found with every Jazz I've owned that almost as soon as you start to turn down a particular pickup, it vanishes from the overall sound leaving the other one dominant. There was a tiny margin of actual blending. So in my case it was either everything on full or neck on it's own.
This happens on my stacked pots as well, vol and tone, sort of step effect. Isn't there some capacitor/resistor fix for this?
16. How about stacked pots? Vol/tone for each pup? I tend to go with everything full on, neck only, bridge only. A recent AVRI purchase which I am still playing around with. For bridge only I've had to use EQ on my amp for first time to get fatten out the sound.
17.
Thanks! Didn't look hard enough. But dammit all I want to see is on Saturday - and all in a row in the Big Top. What a line-up - Esperanza, S/M/G, Stanley Clarke.
The web site is a bit pants for an event only 5 weeks away. Saturday is very tempting though quite a trip from Bristol. Perhaps a Podpad is an option http://podpads.com/love-supreme-2016
18. Thanks for the heads up. Playing a street party, on at 8 o'clock. Email sent.
19.
I've seen Billy using a Spector on a couple of vids - is he using it for the whole show?
He used at least 4 Spectors, including a fretless.
20. Many years ago I met a bloke introduced to me as Brian to show him around a Victorian observatory I was "renovating" in Northumberland. I had my suspicions at the time, which were later confirmed that it was Mr Eno. A very personable and erudite chap he was. It was around the time of the Bowie Berlin trilogy.
21. I've sold 2 basses, with the intention of upgrading, and as I did do shortly afterwards there were no regrets. I am considering others because of functional overlaps, and I imagine that way lies the potential for regret.
22.
A blast from the past!
I asked about UK shipping back in Nov 2014 and heard nothing. OP has been quiet. What a tease. It is gorgeous.
23. Rebooting this after seeing Sherwood playing with Yes at Colston Hall, Bristol this evening. I would say he filled Squire's boots on all counts. Presence, backing vocals, sound, bass lines. A strong tribute. Not a new interpretation.
24. I relented and got last minute tickets to see Yes at Colston Hall, Bristol. Billy Sherwood on bass, doing an impressive impersonation of Chris Squire in terms of sound, lines, hair, humour, movement and body mass. Had a selection of Spectors. They did Drama and Fragile in their entirety plus extras. Drama sounded better than the album, but maybe I should give it another listen. They struggled occasionally keeping it together, but it was an enjoyable self tribute.
