1.
Oh! That's the first time I've heard of it on a bass amp
My Roland Cube has reverb and delay amongst other effects. I always have a smidge of reverb when I use it.
 2. Jedson Telecaster, short scale, 40 years ago. Had flat wounds on it IIRC. Dreadful bass. Made me appreciate just about everything else since. No longer have it.
 3.
Edgar Meyer and Christian McBride, St Georges Bristol. Stunning. Two acoustic basses, and a bit of piano (played by a bass player).
Saw them too. Very musical, engaging and more arco than you could shake a bow at. And acoustic. A change after Symphony X and the Winery Dogs.
 4. Neck through Twin pickups (not humbuckers) Pup pan Ebony fingerboard
 5. I like most stuff except pairs of humbucker pickups. Too big and clunky. Same with one humbucker and one jazz pu. Singles are ok.
 6.
Conversely some folks make low ball offers for a bass that you might agree to but 'without' the case; leaving you to sell the case to recoup the difference! I've had it happen several times where buyers have said that they use x/y/z brand of case/gigbag and don't want the case that is with the bass, so would I knock off £20-£50 or whatever. Consequently I've got several branded cases off past basses, which have proved useful... for when I buy said brand of bass without a case!
That makes some sense, I have a Warwick Rockcase which a Mayones came in!
 7. I just bought a used AVRI 62 jazz from 2001 (must do a NBD) and it didn't come with the original (or any) case. A friend who always buys new said he was surprised by this. Of the last 5 second hand basses I've bought only 2 of them came with the original branded case. Two of those with no case are higher end basses I would expect to have been delivered new with a branded case. AVRIs (certainly recent ones) come with tweed cases, certificate and candy. What happens to the original case? It seems unlikely someone spends £1.5-£2k or more on a new bass without a case? Why separate the bass from the case? Does the lack of a case diminish the value in people's minds significantly, or raise any questions of the provenance of the bass?
 8. You'll be in San Francisco - a great city. That's my advice. I never get jet lag going to the States (even the West Coast) usually because of the buzz of being there. Only suffer when I come home.
 9.
There are two different types of spline shafts - coarse and fine - see here. I suspect that you have the wrong knobs for the spline of your existing pots.
I've just refitted the original Spector Tonepump to my Euro LX with the original knobs, but having problems with them sitting straight and staying on. The pots are coarse spline and buttons press on according to this link. Didn't help that the mounting nuts and washers were missing. There doesn't appear to be enough of the pot shaft to get a grip on. Do I need washers between the guitar body inside and outside?
 10.
I've seen all the bands you would expect to be loud (Motorhead, Maiden, Judas Priest etc.) many times over the years but by far the loudest band I've ever seen were Asia at Wembley Arena in 1982.
I had the same experience with Asia in Wolverhampton more recently. Actually caused me pain and I scurried to the back.
 11. Motörhead were always touted as one of the loudest but at Newcastle City Hall in the late 70s, fearing I would die from the volume, I came away a little relieved to have both my hearing and my life. Ted Nugent around the same time was louder, same venue.
 12. The Tonepump is in. My first such install. Amazed it worked first time. Know where I am with the TP immediately, and can dial in some good tones easily. Will test it out at rehearsal this week. The ACG definitely had its own character. Thanks for the posts.
 13.
I have the two sets of EQ02 in one of my basses, one for each pickup then master volume and pan John East fitted it to one of my basses and it's a great system. I had it in a neck through bass but found it wasn't punchy enough for me so its been moved into a bolt on bass and it seems more at home there. Filters are pretty much an acquired taste and you do have to put in quite a lot of time to get to grips about what they can do for your sound but once you get it, you can get some amazing bass tones in your arsenal from just one bass. I love them and find them easier to use that 3 band eq's etc.

This... I initially had problems with the pre in my ACG Harlot - was very frustrating but with patience and persistence I've managed to get my head around what it can do and I'm more than happy with the range of tones available.
I have had the bass with the EQ02 in it for some years, and have kept coming back to it (I like the bass, and I don't like to be beaten, in fact I can be quite bloody/single minded, dogged, determined, etc), but I suppose the issue for me at end of the day is I can't get a "range of tones". So the "potentiometer mounting nuts" were missing from the Tonepump (different size to the ACG), and Maplins was a waste of time, but nice guy Steve at Bristol PMT helped me out today. Paul Reed Smith was in PMT doing a meet and greet at the time. Lot of discussion on woods, especially having very dry wood.
 14. Thanks for the comments. Update: So the ACG is out but I have to head off to Maplins to get some nuts to fit the TP pots, as they're a different size. More to follow.
 15.
I'd say try 3 (or 4) first. Then if that doesn't work then try 5 and if that doesn't work then 6 is the last resort...
Thanks. Just dug out the Tonepump and it looks to be the original variant with no trim pot. Does that effect my decision? There's a lot of negative views on this about it being too "hot".
 16.
Sounds just like my experience with the Acg filter pre. I would just put the tone pump back in. Emgs are fine.
I'll get my soldering iron out.
 17.
3 and 5 When I had a Euro 4LX I tried different pickups from EMG to change the sound. They make a huge range of pickup configurations that fit in your cover size. see link......http://www.emgpickups.com/bass/extended-series.html The Tone Pump is great preamp, put it back in. IMHO
Yeah, installing the Tone Pump is the simplest option. Thanks for the link. They do a passive version of the PJs as well.
 18. I have a Euro 4LX purchased here some years ago. It came with an ACG EQ02 filter pre-amp fitted, and the original Tone Pump. It has EMG PJ pickups. The challenge of using filter preamps is a common experience, they appear to be a bit Marmite. I have read widely on the topic, and I can dial in a very narrow sweetish spot with the EQ02 and adjust with pup balance and tone. There does appear to be a wide spectrum of unusable sounds as well. I can't quite get a P or a J sound. I am not using the guitar much, though I love its playability and feel and looks, but certainly won't gig it, as only the slightest of movement on the EQ02 controls changes the sound massively. I have tried a variety of strings as well and had mixed results, but same limited usable sound palette (IMO). My questions are: 1) am I hearing the EMGs or the ACG? 2) do I want to hear the EMGs more? 3) should I put the Tone Pump back in? 4) should I try a different pre-amp? I have an OBP3 eleswhere and get on well with it. 5) should I try different pups? 6) should I sell the whole package?
 19.
GAS is all about inspiration, and a lot of GAS is understanding that desiring the item is better than having it. I've found this all my life, I wanted a parker fly guitar for 20 years, I eventually bought one and it's a great guitar but 4 years down the line it's just a guitar now rather than the magical item it was before I bought it. It ties into the human desire to be better, to get more.. It's about the excitement of getting that item and it's as much about what the excitement will do to your playing as the item itself. GAS is good. Too much GAS turns into financial flatulence.
Maybe not quite as Philip Larkin called it: "fulfillment's desolate attic". What did the caveman acquire? Essentials for survival. Food. Fuel. Tools. We've moved on (a little), so my man cave is full of essential, well researched and carefully chosen tools, they all do something different, and I occasionally upgrade. I am genetically driven to acquire.
 20.
If you mess up, tell people you play a lot of jazz.
A variation on this goes: if you play the wrong note, play it again like you meant it.
 21.
I've never really found them to be floppy, but I've never tried any others. I use them on my 6 string, get them from DV247 or thomann, they're about £30 less than anywhere else.
By "floppy" I mean low tension. Thanks for tip on the deal.
 22. I have some on my Buzz and they are so unique in feel and sound. Had them for years and I find the tension has increased slightly, less of that floppy feel. Was wondering about putting them on a 6 string 34.5 scale fretted which has magnetic and piezo pickups. Any thoughts?
No, because he's an Overwater basses endorser.
I know. A joke. He can't have endeared himself to them, though. Felt like he realised that and started digging himself out of a hole.

 25.
You might do better - Heaven is primarily a nightclub and they want to get the greasy longhairs out, tidy up the empty tinnies and generally defumigate the place well in advance of letting the pretty young things in to shake their stuff - especially with it being last Friday before Christmas and that.
no such nonsense at the Keller!
