  1. I hate slap bass. OK, apart from Stanley and Victor. And this guy. I thought this would be sh*te, next time I play Tom Sawyer it is going to be a little different.
  2. Have you tried nickel strings? I'm having a lot of fun with my Geddy Jazz, Genz Benz Shuttle + Focus 4x10. D'addario XLs, bass + treble noon, both mids at 3 o'clock. Neck pup on full, bridge pup 75%. Sounds like a pack of wild dogs. And dig in over the neck pup.
  3. Take a hanky or a sock to a guitar shop. Pick a fretless bass. Use the sock to dampen the strings by the bridge. Play like you would your double bass. Take on cheddatom's suggestions. You might like what you hear.
  4. Great bass, 9.2 and Focus 4x10 cabs. The best rig ever. Never loved playing so much.
  5. Ah, I got one of those adapters to fit single ball end strings to my Steinberger. Racked my brains to make something up. Now I see it would have been quite easy to make something. I'll keep an eye for bridges.
  6. Nice, how do the ball-ends go through the head plate. I think Thomas do 5 string bridges.
  7. Personal preference for me I'm afraid. I like the sound and feel of nickel and the 735's are the best (for me) that I've tried. Also have to say that I've never had a bad set out of the packet. Not once.
  8. Played an Orange crush 50 watt in a shop. Great amp. Maybe the 25w is a goer.
  9. Only audible part was the drums. metal cymbals and skins. 3d printing = arse.
  10. Have you heard Trapeze covering Sunny Side Of The Street? Not really glam but 70's. And a great tune.
  11. Love the first album. I got a bootleg show a couple years ago and they played newer stuff tidy but when it came to older tunes they seemed to be taking the piss, messing with the arrangements and playing lots of off key notes and phrases. Maybe they were just entertaining themselves for giggles but I would have been really disappointed if I was at that gig. Can't believe I never saw them live early on though.
  12. I use Picato strings on my SUB4. Dark and growly.
  13. I only use Picato nickel wound now. They clank and growl, last a long time- at least six months, more often a year- and then only because the are starting to rust. £13.00 from here : http://www.bandshop.co.uk/Picato-735-Hybrid-Bass-Strings-p/bs-pic735lhy.htm I tried Elites-didn't like the feel. And I came across the Roto nickel wound and I was really interested to know what they were like. Really disappointed. Felt rough like Roto stainless, too clanky-OP may dig them- and they started to rust after 3 weeks. Back to Picato, more than happy.
  14. C'mon guys, why is this still here? I've got a CIJ in Sunburst and it the second best bass I've ever owned. Hey spongebob, can't wait to hear the EP. Bernie Torme- awesome.
  15. Looking at your amp list there's no need to tell you how good the GB gear is. I've got the Shuttle 9.2-the best amp I've ever played through. Tonyclaret is selling his 6 for a good price, check that out.
  16. As above, have a go on a VM Fretless. You won't be disappointed. Great sound, lovely player.
  17. http://www.talkbass.com/threads/sterling-by-music-man-sub-ray4-and-ray5.871370/page-17 Starts at the bottom of the page. Downloadable PDH thing.
  18. Never liked Rays. The look, sound and the thick neck put me off. Played one or two and found the only thing that impressed me was the quality of them. Really well built. Went to a local shop where they had a SUB4, was really after trying an EPI Thunderbird, played the SUB4 for about 5 minutes and fell in love with it. Great sound, can get a fantastic Ric/Thunderbird growl from it, comfy neck- just a tad thicker than a Jazz- beautiful Black & Maple. And sits in the most comfortable position when playing. Never had thought I'd end up having a MusicMan type instrument as my main bass. Goes to show huh?
  19. My GB Shuttle 9.2 sounds great at low volume, mainly with the SUB4, but also with my Jazz. Quiet fan and headphone out.
  20. Nickel strings? The Picato 735's are really smooth to the touch. I also let my nails grow out a touch from the fingertips. Don't let them grow out too much or they can snap off mid song.
  21. Shared on my FB page. Best of luck guys.
  22. Really happy with my GB rig. Shuttle 9 and 4x10 cabs. My SUB 4 sounds awesome through it. Best kit I've ever used.
