    Da'Darrio EX190 works for me. Not sure about the tension though. I use Fast Fret, after a while I can hardly feel the strings.

    With a heavy heart I have to admit to feeling not so bad about not seeing Rush live again. Geddy just can't sing those songs anymore. They have been my favourite band since my mate played me 2112 in 1978. Lots of fond memories of gigs, albums, friends.     Oldest one I have still wearable is a Rush Moving Pictures 1980. My Yes Drama tour 1980 is a bit threadbare. Still fit though.

    December the bloody 4th! Well, thanks a lot. I've been telling everyone at work how juiced I am to get home tonight and watch this. I even went to check my amazon account to check if I had merely imagined ordering it. Anyone know the reason for the delay?

    Geddy Lee used to use this technique a lot in the 70's/80's. I don't know if he damaged his bass but he has had to have a few operations on his arm tendons. I get a similar sound by slapping my finger(s) down over the bridge pup or right at the edge of the neck.

    XL's for me. Perfect for getting lots of middy growl. Used to swear by Picato but they just lost something for me. Shame really as Picato make their strings just up the road from me. the XL's are on the bass in my sig there.

    My Genz Benz gear is the best I've played through. I think it would be a bit rude not to get a bunch of the Genzler cabs and upcoming amps.

    Ditched my last band because the new drummer played so loud the guitar player turned up so much that I had to stand at the back of the hall. Yes: Hall. Not a small rehearsal space but a church hall. The drummer was using ear protection because he knew he played so loud. Didn't bother informing us or even try to play quieter. Not for me.

    High action, 40-100 XL's. No fret buzz if I play over the bridge pup, a little bit of buzz when I dig in playing over the neck pup. I like a bit of sizzle under the guitar solos. People say that my bass sounds great. The thirty-odd years trying to get it to sound great may have something to do with it though.

    I had the same problem, just felt sticky after a while. A couple of passes with fine sandpaper, 5 in my case and the neck is silky smooth. It's the bass in my photo there, can't even see any difference to the back of the neck.

    The Sub 4 pre-amp problem is easily fixed. Unscrew the pickups, take the foam and spring out from underneath them, screw them back in. Problem solved.
