1.
Sorry to hear about this - QC problems like this were one reason we changed manufacturer. If you'd let us know at the time we'd have been able to get this exchanged with Roqsolid for a correctly made cover.
It's not a big problem really Alex because the cab only moves from my house to the car, into the gig and back and I'm pretty careful anyway. The BB2 with the Thunderfunk amp continues to get positive comments from musicians and punters alike, that's what really matters. Frank.
2. My Barefaced branded (Roqsolid) cover is well made and gives good protection to my BB2 but... it's about an inch too short! How that happened I have no idea? Frank.
3. I like the Eden sound but the WTX264 has a reputation for being a quiet/underpowered amp whereas the MB200 has a reputation for sounding good and being loud. Decisions, decisions... Frank.
4. For what it's worth I'd highly recommend the GK MB200. You could add a cab later? I use my MB200 with a Barefaced one10. It's easily loud enough for pub gigs and rehearsals. Sounds lovely. I had a gig on both Friday and Saturday last weekend. On Saturday night when I went to plug into my EBS Reidmar 750 I realised that the jack socket retaining nut had came off and the socket was inside the amp!! (Found the nut and will fix it tomorrow.) Out came the MB200, used through a Barefaced BB2. It was easily loud enough - these are great little compact and well featured amps and not too expensive. Frank.
5. It'll be fine. Just listen for ugly noises that tell you you're pushing the cab too much, but in practice, it's very unlikely to happen unless you boost the bass too much. Frank.
6.
My 750 has a slight hum when the 'tube' switch is on, no probs in SS mode. IIRC a previous owner had this checked but it wasn't remedied... never bothered me so I've left it as is! Oddly my previous 550 had no such issue.
There's no hum from my 550 either. I suspect it's coming from the transformer which I think they changed in later versions. Frank.
7. Thunderfunk amps are superb. That's a cracking rig Mark. One thing about Thunderfunk amps that's rarely mentioned, is that they can be easily repaired. All the components, with the possible exception of the transformer, are readily available and not difficult to replace. Frank.
8. That's a great rig. Owned the same myself a few years ago and it did everything I needed. Enjoy it. Frank.
9. 1991, WAL Mk1 fretless, £200... Frank.
10. Great work. I really enjoyed that. Frank.
11. I play close to the neck for a thicker sound and close to the bridge for a thinner, more funky sound. Nothing unusual there. I don't anchor my thumb so playing in any position is easier. I think anchoring your thumb on the pickup limits your ability to vary your sound, especially on a Precision. Frank.
12. These are great cabs that will do all pub/club gigs with ease and for very little money. I gigged mine for 6 years and it never broke a sweat at any gig. Great tone and volume. Frank.
13. An excellent upgrade would be to fit a set of straplocks. The other halves are on their way to you now. Sorry for the delay. I couldn't face the queues at the Post Office over the last month or so. Frank.
14. That's a heartwarming story. Frank.
15. I have to mention Lowden and Avalon acoustic guitars. Designed and built in Northern Ireland and totally wonderful instruments. Frank.
16. I've followed this thread from day one and my admiration of the s**t-stirring abilities of molan just increases every time he posts. A perfect lesson in how to create a row - just brilliant! Thank you molan for being so entertaining. Really! Frank.
17.
Mine is an anvil, weight-wise. It's one of the heaviest basses I've had, but it doesn't bother me enough when it sounds as good as it does! I had a black SUB5 and I was silly enough to let it go.
I wouldn't call mine an anvil but it's the heaviest bass I own. When I was selling all my heavier basses the US SUB stayed because, although it weighs about 10lbs it balances so well that my back doesn't suffer. Work that one out? Frank.
18. I have a GK MB200 and it amazes me with tone and volume for such a tiny little thing. I used it a couple of weeks ago with 2 x 112 Barefaced cabs and it shook the stage! It also performs brilliantly with my Barefaced one10 for smaller gigs. Marvelous little amps. For more poke in a quality package and on a tight budget I'd be looking at the used EBS Reidmar on sale here for £190. What a bargain. (I have too many amps or it would already be mine.) Frank.
19.
Aguilar GS212 on here for £350, a steal and would monster the application you need it for.
Good call!! Frank.
20.
If you only want to run with a single cab, I'd make it a 4ohm one. Your £500 should get you a nice used one.
While this sounds good I would advise against it unless it's got at least two drivers. Sorry. The difference in volume between a 8 ohm and 4 ohm cab won't be much (and a lot of 4 ohm, single driver cabs, couldn't take the additional power anyway) but using an 8 ohm cab means you can add another identical cab later that your amp can deal with as the two 8 ohm cabs will present a 4 ohm impedance to your amp. The G2 Compacts are great cabs for small money as they are all now used and prices have dropped a fair bit. You wouldn't lose much or any money, if you sold it on. Frank.
21.
Thanks guys. I've had the front off and tightened all front accessible parts. I don't really want to start farting about behind the baffle too much as I don't know a crossover from a roll over . I'm ok with basses (except electrics) but really clueless with amps and cabs, hence offering it cheaply for a confident person. If it goes to GEE's next week, I know it's going to be at least their £60 test fee, so if I spend a lot on it, it will be getting kept until it shuffles off it's own mortal coil
What about a leg-over? Have a bump. Frank.
22. I'm 60 this coming May and have no plans to quit playing. There seems to be a more (Ahem!) mature age group playing the blues scene. You might stand a better chance of finding a new band there? Frank.
23. If space is at a premium don't overlook the Super Midget. Not quite as much low end as the BB2 (or Super Compact I imagine) but you can EQ it in just a little and the cab will take it. I gig my Super Midget on its own and it's very capable. Frank.
24. I wonder at this not being sold immediately? I gigged mine last night through two Barefaced cabs in a fairly big venue and it was simply superb. These seem to be overlooked in favour of GK, Aguilar, Markbass, Ashdown etc, etc, but that is definately a mistake. Tone and volume for miles. Highly recommended. Frank.
