1. Lovely. My favourite colour. Frank.
2. The cab is the most important for me although I'm particular about all aspects of my gear. Frank.
3. After reading this thread I've just booked my appointment for a test, hopefully leading to having a moulded set made. I've used the Christmas tree ones for years but never got used to them so often haven't bothered putting them in or wear only one. Not good. With the big six - oooh coming next May and over 40 years working in loud environments it's a wonder I've any hearing left. time for action at last. Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. Frank.
4. And look, would you believe it, there's one for sale on here. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/230221-gibson-eb-3-slotheadstock-price-drop-1300-gbp/page__p__3151335__hl__gibson__fromsearch__1#entry3151335 "Suits you Sir" Or, in the words of Mrs Doyle "Go on, go on go on" Frank.
5.
Err, no; bass choice is fairly random, perhaps minutes before I leave the house. No favourites. I may choose one over another based on freshness of the strings, but they're all similarly set up, all play pretty much the same. It would be easier to list the ones that never get gigged!
Haha. I'd say there's more than a few basschatters guilty of that one - myself included. Frank.
6. Your string height would be too high for me too. It might be worth spending the money on a good setup. You can learn to do a setup yourself later. When I started playing guitar (6 string) in the late 1960s one of the main reasons kids gave up early when learning to play was poor setup/action on the cheap crap that was available back then. Things have improved vastly since than with cheap and GOOD instruments available these days. Frank.
7.
Sorry to disappoint you, Frank, but I can't explain it either. It doesn't make any sense to me at all. The only thing I can think of is that the 12ohm cabinet isn't actually 12 ohms, but 16 ohms. It was a perfectly sensible question though.
Sorry stevie, I mistakingly thought you were teasing me just a wee bit. My thoughts were simply that the two cab versions were different in simply series or parallel connection and that each connection would require a diffferent crossover design (because the two10 speakers dont produce the same frequencies) and that, combined with varying coil impedence at a range of frequencies and other parameters could present the approximate 4ohm and 12ohm impendence at the cab terminals. I could see how that would be possible and hence my reply to goingdownslow's post. Frank.
8. That looks good mcnash. The Squiers I've tried in the last few years have been excellent basses. I sometimes wonder why I spend more on Fenders. Frank.
9. 1. Fender US Standard Jazz 2. Fender US Standard Jaguar 3. Fender US Standard Precision 4. Musicman US SUB These could swap positions next week. Frank.
10.
Yes, do go on.
Oh I think you could explain it much better than me stevie. It was my day job for 43 years and I don't like talking shop. Frank.
11.
How do you convert a 2X10 12Ω cab to 4Ω with just a wiring loom, is it magic cable?
Remember, we're talking overall cab impedence here and both speakers don't cover the same frequencies. Frank.
12. I can't see well enough to see what the links are doing. In theory European and UK voltages are the same. In practice they're not, but they're close enough not to worry. If it was mine I'd leave it as it is. But unless you're certain and know what you're doing, leave well alone or take it to a good repair man for advice. Frank.
13.
Hi Frank, did i answer this fully? Apologies if not! Its US made , a limited addition , as you can see on the neck plate, with the Hot Rod logo and serial number. I can email clearer pics. In great condition, some inevitable swirls on the back, but no dings etc. Cheers
Thanks for the reply. Do you have an accurate weight? I'll PM you a trade offer and my email for pics,. Frank.
14. I have the gear4music bag. It's fine but not very thickly padded although it does the job okay. I carry the one10, a GK MB200 (in it's own little padded case) a mains cable and a short speaker cable. Seems to work for me. I use this setup for rehearsals and small pub gigs and it's just brilliant. Frank.
15. The recent "budget" basses are a massive bargain and there's a certain enjoyment in owning what you know to be a quality instrument that cost a fraction of a mid to high end instrument. Frank.
16. Sting plays simple but strangely complex bass. So effective. One of my favourite bass players. Frank.
17.
I use an Amp One - the AER range is totally different to any other combo that I've used - tone, power, dynamics and depth are astounding - fantastic price IMO!
I agree. They are in a class of their own. Astonishing little beasts. I have an amp two (Amp twos seem to be the rarest of the range?) and love everything about it - except the weight. But a folding trolley fixed that problem. Frank.
18.
I remember a classic saying, professionals built the Titanic, amateurs built the Ark.
She was alright when she left Belfast. Built by Irishmen, sunk by an Englishman. Now, back on topic. Frank.
19. Absolutely beautiful. Frank.
20. Those Jaguars are a bargain. I have an Olympic White one and it's a superb instrument. Get in quick. Frank.
21. The Barefaced BB2 is regarded as a very clean/clear sounding cab while the range that uses the 10" driver like the one10 mentioned above, is less clear and more coloured. I have both those cabs and I like them both but I prefer the BB2 for the fuller range on offer. I haven't owned or played through the others you mention so I won't comment on them. Frank.

MB1 Feedback

I placed a "wanted" advertisement for a Musicman Stingray pickguard. Martin responded with an offer to give me a spare guard he had. Dispite my offers to pay for it and for the postage Martin posted it to me at his own expense. I don't know what more to say about this except that I hope I can return the generousity to Martin and the general basschat community. Thanks Martin. You're a true gent. Frank.
23. I concur. They are all too quiet to gig in any context except a house party and even then... Frank.
24.
Sorry everybody, but lots of meaningless questions and queries get posted on here all the time, it was only meant as a bit of fun to find out what people who don't, or rarely gig, do if they don't gig very often. I started off just collecting guitars when I was in my early twenties, I will be 65 next month and I only started gigging in 2007 when I was 56, so I have spent more than thirty years where I have owned instruments, but did not gig, and because I might have to stop gigging myself soon, I was wondering if I can get any ideas from other BC'ers to find an alternative to gigging. Once again, I did not intend to offend anyone, it was just a light-hearted question, but if you think this post is offensive, I am more than happy to ask a mod to delete it, because I feel genuinely upset that it could be taken the wrong way.
I wouldn't get upset at this. Like a lot of topics, it's just a bit of fun. Sorry to hear about your health problems too. My tuppence worth is that I've been playing to live audiences since the early 1970s with a break between about 1993 to 2003 due to work and travels. I'm still gigging, depping and jamming regularly and hope to continue as long as I can. I'm 60 next year. Frank.
25. I think what you're saying is true.. I have a Reidmar 750 and while I think it's a superb amp, I think I get a fuller sound from my Thunderfunk. Again, there's not an awful lot in it and I'd happily gig the Reidmar anytime at any venue. I bought the Reidmar as a backup initially but, if weight becomes an issue, (I can walk to some gigs) the Reidmar works just fine. Slightly related point: I also use a Barefaced one10 with GK MB200 for rehearsals and smaller, quieter gigs. I love this tiny rig and it sounds wonderful. The other day I swopped the MB200 for my Walkabout with the one10 and was pleasantly surprised at how much better the Walkabout sounded. At the same volumes the Walkabout is just richer and more full sounding - far more complex. Frank.
