1. I owned this bass for many years (bought 2009?). If you're thinking of buying I can tell you that it has the nicest neck I've ever played. The quality is up there with the boutique manufacturers. It plays beautifully and sounds superb. I only sold it because I was just too precious about it and only gigged it at weddings and private party gigs so it was not getting used enough and it's too good to stay in the case that much. If I was wealthier I would have kept it. Highly recommended. Good luck with the sale James. Frank.
2.
On hold, pending usual
Thank Dog for that. Puts it out of my mind. Frank.
3.
Sold pending the usuals!
Is it coming to N. Ireland by any chance? Frank.
4. I posted a bass this week via Interparcel but with ParcelForce. I called Interparcel to be sure about the insurance. The answer was that ParcelForce exclude musical instruments but Interparcel do not. So hopefully, my bass, which is on its way from Belfast to Sussex is fully insured with Interparcel. Hope this helps a little. Frank.
5. I know what you mean. Something like this would make me feel low as well. In this case, I think you're perfectly fine to either ignore him or tell him that you know it was OK when you sold it. Plus, he should have asked you within days of the sale and not spent the money before agreeing it with you. Frank.
6.
Exactly, as I said, mine will be locked in passive mode with the P pup soloed all the time, but I suppose it is nice to have everything there should I ever need it.
These American Standard Jaguars are really useful gigging basses. Mine is in passive with only the P pickup selected for most of the time. Occasionally I use the two pickups in series which sounds massive. Enjoy your new toy. Frank.
7. After moving from guitar to bass around 1985 I used a Peavey 15" combo. It was a great amp and I used it quite a few times in the Ulster Hall which is a huge venue and coped well. It makes me wonder why I now have one amp that has 750 watts. After a break from playing from 1993 to 2003 it was another Peavey combo - a Databass 450, another super combo from Peavey. After a couple of years I got interested in Markbass and owned LM I, LM II, traveller cabs 1 x 15", and a pair of traveller 2 x10" which were excellent. EDIT and a CMD121P combo which was excellent but the purchase of the Gen 2 Midget made the combo a bit redundant so it too was sold. I was working in California in 2003 and heard about Schroeder cabs and bought one of the original angled 2 x 12. This was a good gigging cab and not hard to move about. Next came Barefaced. I was one of Alex's first customers buying a Gen 1 Compact. When the Gen2 Midget was relased I got one of those as well. This was a big step up in sound quality. I bought a Mesa Walkabout around this time which I still have but don't use much. I added a combo, an AER amp two which was intended for rehearsals and small pub gigs but ended up playing it at fairly large gigs. I really enjoy how this combo sounds and still have it but again, it's not being used much now. The reason appeaars below. Inevitably, I ended up with Gen3 Barefaced, a BB2 and a Super Midget. A Thunderfunk was added to the arsenal, then a Genz Streamliner 900 (now sold). A Reidmar 750 replaced the Streamliner which I use when I need to go lightweight. (I walk/ bus to some gigs with a trolley.) Finally...I bought a Barefaced one10 and GK MB200 to replace the AER combo but haven't got around to selling the AER because I like it so much. I'm certain there's other stuff I've left out. Frank
8.
Personally, I find the overprovision of switches and controls to be a wonderful thing. Add the offset shape and it's a winner for me. I'm getting the first burblings of GAS.
It happened to me as soon as I saw one in Olympic White. They are really great sounding basses. The series PU setting is MASSIVE. I rarely use it in active but the preamp is quite powerful. I leave it set to boost the lows a little in case I want to instantly switch on the welly. Frank.
9.
The only thing that puts me off these basses is the silly layout of the controls. They took the guitar design and just shoehorned things like an eq , passive -active switch etc in places where it doesn't seem to be intuitive. There do look nice though.
You get used to the controls pretty quickly though. The biggest problem is that it's possible to switch the pickups OFF in a certain position and if you happen to do this accidently on a gig, it can be a bit embarrassing. Frank.
10. I'm quite precious about my basses, amps, cabs - everything. Although I have a USA SUB Stingray that was well worn when I bought it and it is liberating to gig with it and not have to be careful and protective. Frank.
11. I have a one10 and love it, but reading this has tempted me to think about either another one10 or a two10. I suppose another one10 would make more sense and would be cheaper too. Mmmmmmm. Frank.
12. Good info mcnach. There were a couple of Jaguars in the for sale section not long ago. It might be worth having a nosey at them? Frank.
13.
Also, when looking at where to place the pup, is it simply a matter of measuring x cm from the bridge to match a ray or is there more to it than that?
Measure from the nut as the bridge is adjustable. I'll take a measurement off my US SUB if you need it? (It's the same as a Stingray.) This could be an interesting project, especially as the Squier Jaguar is active, I hadn't realised that. Not quite the same but I have an American Standard Jaguar, 2 band active EQ and PJ pickups. It's a fantastic and versitile bass. Frank.
14. The thought that came to mind is that the Stingray sound is due in part to the bass being active and yours would be passive. Apart from that I can't see how it wouldn't work out fine. There's a Stingray PU for sale here at the moment. Frank.
15.
I bought a Fender TV15 combo from them a few years ago. It was about £100 off the normal price so I thought I'd got a bargain. when it arrived it was clear that it was a demo model, as there was marks on the tweed covering. I was philosophical about it, as I had paid £600 for a £700 amp, the marks were superficial and it worked fine, so I didn't bother returning it. The problem I had with GAK, was that they hadn't made me aware that the amp was B stock on their web page. I would have been well within my rights to return it and ask for a new amp - if I felt inclined. Ever since that time I have been very wary of using GAK to buy new gear. I'd much prefer to use Thomann, as their customer service is excellent.
I agree that Thomann customer service is excellent but I received an amp from them earlier this year that was clearly used or ex-demo. To be fair they replaced it without question and paid for the postage. Artisan, I hope you get sorted. That must be very annoying. Frank.
16. Very tidy looking too. Enjoy it. Frank.
17.
Yes, matching cabs and a narrower head on top (or even no head) does not look like an absolute mess on stage as if I've had to borrow bits and pieces off three people to do the gig!
Haha. I see. A head that's narrower than the cab has never bothered me. I've honestly never even thought about it. I wouldn't want a head that's wider than the cab though. That rules out some great amps that I would have bought on here over the years as they are 19" wide. It also means I wouldn't use my Reidmar 750 on top of my Barefaced one10, which is a pity really because it would sound fantastic. Frank.
18.
I wonder if the Genz Über cabs would have been more popular if stupid fender hadn't ruined everything? I'd be looking to test drive a pair of genz 1x12 cabs to match the head, I like matching stuff and I couldn't gig one of those Barefaced mountains with different grilles, badges on the side and all different sizes with the head overhanging!
.. I genuinely don't understand this. You can match cabs and use an amp that's narrrower than the cab. Puzzled. Frank.
19. I was posting in another thread about my Barefaced one10 and GK MB200 setup, That would be an excellent solution for the OP, with a tiny footprint, small size and low weight. The tone and volume is a thing of beauty too. It costs less than the combos mentioned so far in this thread. I keep and transport mine in a cajon bag along with the cables etc as a single unit, so the same as carrying a combo. Frank.
20.
The only PJB I have heard recently, sounded pretty good with an EUB through it. It was in a small pub though. Does it have to a combo? If not I will back up the suggestion of a Barefaced One 10 with whatever head takes your fancy. It is what I use for big band rehearsals.
I recommended the Eden EC28 earlier in this thread, it's a great combo but I've since replaced it with a Barefaced one10 powered by a GK MB200 and I'm more than pleased with the results. The one10/MB200 rig cost more than the Eden combo but it's half the weight and size and performs as well or maybe even better. I'd highly recommend this setup. Frank.
21. Honestly, I used my CMD121P in a 3 piece of Guitar, bass and 3 x vox. I just turned the volume down. In my opinion it's perfect for what you need and with the comfort of more welly on tap should you need it. Plus they sound great. If you really MUST have a smaller footprint then I've used (but not owned) a Markbass 802, as suggested above, and they are excellent too. But do you really need to spend £500ish on a third combo? Or is it just that GAS has struck? I know the feeling only too well. EDIT. The footprint saving isn't that much between the 2 Markbass combos. The 802 is not as wide as the 121 but is a fair deeper. Frank.
22. The Reidmar 750 is an excellent amp and it's the one to go for if you're on a budget. I think it will do everything you need. I really like mine a lot and the price is very competitive. Frank.
23. I found the Dimarzio Ultra jazz (hum cancelling) pickups to be meaty in the bridge position on a Fender jazz. They really are silent too. Frank.
24. I think it's just that we all have our own playing styles and you've found a style that you're comfortable with, which is definately a good thing. Frank.
