1. I take spare cables, battery, strings and a spare amp. I did have an amp fail on a gig once, thankfully during an encore. I've taken a spare amp ever since and it's never happened again. Then again I've never broken a string. Frank.
 2. The golden era was 2003 to 2005, US made SUB.... Frank.
 3.
Yeah that barefaced looks awesome but I don't think he wants to spend that much brass! Stylistically he's playing pop rock and generally has quite a bit of grit via sansamp di . I think 2-300 quid is all he has to spend. Thanks for all the replies btw!
Around £250 would get him a used Barefaced one10 or £319 would get him a used one. Since the one10 isn't on the market that long I think he should buy a used one, as it won't be very old anyway. I hope he gets sorted soon. Frank.
 4. An excellent choice. Markbass and Barefaced match well. Frank.
 5. Yes I love his soaring, wandering basslines that always seem perfect for the song. I've been a fan since the early 1990s. A greatly underrated player. Frank.
 6.
That's right, but it's supposed to be "up" is parallel and "down" is series, mine does the opposite. Otherwise yes, I have only played with it one evening but it is incredibly versatile. I did try that, but the switch is connected to the others so it is not really possible without unsoldering. I suppose I'll live with it, I have never bought a new bass before so I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't perfect. Thanks guys, it is a great bass and really beautiful in white.
Ahh. I see what you mean now. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. I would think you'll just get used to it because it's not like there's a standard switching or convention for this. In fact, when I think about it, I'd prefer it like yours because it would be harder to switch the series/parallel upwards than downwards so making it less likely to switch to the silent mode. Frank.
 7.
So this thread totally GASsed me. And I bought the last Olympic White one I could find. It is fabulous, but the pickup switches were not functioning as expected. It took me a while to realise that the control plate had been fitted upside down (neck pickup switch towards the bridge and the series/parallel switch towards the neck). I have flipped it but the series/parallel switch works the opposite of how it should. This is quite disappointing and makes me wonder if the QC was non existent and there might be other issues with it? Should I get it repaired under warranty in any case? Thanks.
The more you use the Jaguar the more you realise how versitile it really is. Glad you're enjoying yours. The light weight is a bonus. I'm not sure what you mean by the bit I've underlined? One position is series and the other position is parallel. But this is the one thing I don't like about the US Jaguar. If you select the P pickup only then the series/parallel switch will switch it off (ie. silence!!) in one position. So you have to be careful, although generally it's not a problem for me as my plucking hand isn't down at that switchplate while playing. This doesn't happen when selecting the jazz pickup only. I hope that makes sense? Frank.
 8. I did a trade with Mike, my bass plus some cash for his bass. The deal was a smooth and pleasant experience and the packing was absolutely top notch - it took 15 minutes to open. Delivery was prompt too. Deal with Mike in full confidence. Frank.
 9. In my experience/opinion the clarity and sheer power of the Reidmar 750 seems to pair very well with the Barefaced Generation3 12" speaker cabs. There's also a basschatter using a Reidmar 750 with a Barefaced one10 but although I have a one10 myself, I've never tried it with the Reidmar. I might try this combination at my next rehearsal. I'll report back. Frank
 10.
Has anyone paired an EBS Reidmar 750 with a BF Supertwin or heard this combination?
Not exactly. But I have an EBS Reidmar 750, a BB2 and a Super Midget. These cabs use the same drivers as the Supertwin. Individually and paired they make a super rig both in tone and volume. I'd imagine the Reidmar 750 paired with a Supertwin would be an excellent sounding rig. Maybe contact Alex (Barefaced owner) for advice? Frank.
 11. I had this exact setup for years. It's brilliant. Three rigs, effectively. Frank.
 12. Yes, a great band with interesting songs and arrangements. I haven't listened to them for many years - must dig out some LPs. Frank.
 13.
This will create a great debate as each of those has their merit and no matter how good they are, they may not sound right to your ears...... So for my 2 pence worth can I ask if you like the Hartke sound? If so you can get an LH500 or LH1000 cheaply second hand, i got mine in a flight case perfect for under £200. I have a Barefaced Supertwin which is a 212 and it is very loud. I got the Cab second hand and had decent change out of £1K. If it's lighterweight you need with power to drive speakers then there are other things like Tecamp Puma, Aguilar Tonehammer 500, EBS Reidmar 750 all very well priced on the second hand market. Good luck!
This is pretty much the advice I would give. I can also tell you that the Reidmar 750 is a great sounding and very loud amp. Used Barefaced cabs like an early 2 x 12 will give good value and performance. You might even get the most recent Barefaced 2 x12 depending on how much of your budget goes on the amp. Of course, many other quality 2 x 12 cabs would suit your needs but, in my experience, a 2 x12, (or a pair of 1 x 12 cabs) of your preferred manufacturer will do everything you need. Frank.
 14.
Use a hairdryer to tighten the grill cloth.
Thanks for the tip. Frank.
 15.
Wasn't too difficult at all with a little help from my wife but an extra pair of hands definitely makes the difference - once you've got the cloth positioned and tight you really need someone else to put the staples in. Just a tip - the staples need to be at about a 45 degree angle to the edge of the frame and only staple about every inch and a half until you've got the tension in - then add more staples inbetween about every quarter inch.
That's very helpful. Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. Frank.
 16. Excellent job. Is it easy enough to get decent tension on the cloth? I'm planning to stretch mine on a lightweight wooden frame which in turn will be held in place with velcro. Frank.
 17.
Depending on your budget the king of small and portable is the AER amp one, 200 very loud watts through a 10 inch speaker, although the mark bass stuff is also rather spectacular. My Mark bass CMD121p is the only amp I've kept hold of for over a year...I normally get bored and move them on.....
I agree with what you say Chris. I (very) briefly had an AER amp one and it is indeed superb. The drawback is that it's not that lightweight and now costs c £1600. The one10 plus GK MB200 has a similar performance, is half the weight and costs about £550 new. Of course the Markbass CMD121P combo, which I should not have sold, is excellent as well, and slightly less than half the cost of the AER. You pays yer money and makes yer choice is a very true saying. Overall I'm happy with the one10/ MB200. Frank.
 18.
Barefaced one10 & an MB200 or LWA500 in a cajon bag.
I use a Barefaced one10 with GK MB200. It sounds superb and much, much louder than you'd expect. It's a lightweight and easy carry. Frank.
 19. It looks like a great amp but £1000+. Far too much money for me for that type of amp. The EBS Reidmar has similar features and can be had for about half the price of the Mesa. Frank.
 20. That looks great. Good work. I've got speaker cloth (original style Marshall brown, but new) I'm going to fit it to my AER amp two to reduce the weight a little. The steel grill is really solid but very heavy and it will be replaced by a lightweight wooden frame covered by the speaker cloth and velcroed in place. You've inspired me to get on with this. Frank.
 21.
No, it wont affect balance on a solid state amp. Both outputs should be equal. I usually daisy chain 2 cabs out of one output as then I can hear both cabs working better...and it might be good practice to swap around the cab that you imput to first...as that will show up a problem with that cab/cable... If you use 2 cabs with 2 outputs from the amp..it is harder to hear if the line if down. As always, assume nothing, mix it up and check outputs and cabs and cables
How does that work? Can you hear a difference between the two cabs if they are connected this way? Frank.
 22. A great choice and all the cab you'll ever need. Frank.
 23.
Thanks for the replies. I've managed to have a play on a barefaced cab loaned to me by a very kind local basschatter and safe to say I'm exceptionally impressed that so much volume comes from such a small box. So barefaced is loud, clear and doing it without having to turn the volume dial very far round. I think the 12" speaker may be the road to go down. As for wondering on why I asked about Vanderkly and barefaced ? Barefaced are new kid on block with apparently a reputation for doing very well at being loud and small. Vanderkly are like the Rolls Royce and if I was buying one cab I was simply wondering what was best at covering most bases; the new kid or the expensive luxury one.
Barefaced aren't that new - I bought my first one in 2008! Barefaced cabs aren't all the same sound either, there are two distinct ranges which sound very different, but even the 12" equipped cabs don't all sound the same. Alex is excellent at advising you on what cab would be most likely to suit your needs. Have a read on the Barefeced website for loads of information. http://barefacedbass.com/ I would guess both brands would do the job they're designed to do very well. Have a look at basschatter Kev's recent thread. I have no experience of Vanderkley so can't offer any insight, but I'm sure they're very good cabs. Frank.
 24.
Ive a markbass little mark III 500w@4ohms Barefaced or vandeekley cabs are the options Which is the better buy ?
I have no way of giving you a meaningful answer but I can offer you the chance to hear/try my 3 Barefaced cabs in my signature. I'm in Belfast and gig mainly around Belfast and north Down. Just let me know if you're interested. I have several gigs before Christmas. Frank.
 25. I always wonder what these prefixes stand for. Anyone know? Frank.
